Fifth Resident Evil movie announced

Due out next year.

Yet another Resident Evil movie will be made, Box Office Mojo reports.

Resident Evil 5, as it's currently known, will hit US cinemas on 14th September 2012, Sony Pictures said.

It's set after the events of the fourth movie, Afterlife, which made an eye-watering $236 million at the box office. It will, of course, come in stereoscopic 3D.

"Haters are gonna hate, but the franchise has its certain charms and I'm looking forward to what video game elements they decide to include in this new film," Capcom's jgonzo said on the Unity website.

Resident Evil 5 will arrive just two years after Afterlife, which will be the shortest wait yet of the franchise.

The films are loosely based on Capcom's zombie chew-em-up series, with characters and settings lifted out of the virtual world and plonked on top of new events for the silver screen.

Hope it doesn't have the decline in quality the games had when reaching 5...
Not that you can do much worse than RE Afterlife...

I enjoyed after life alot i hope the next one is as good

I enjoy these films. Think they're quite fun.

The problem is, idiots keep going to see these god aweful films, so more get made. Each one worse and more rushed than the last.

The most recent 3D one, took so much money at the box office, this new one is being rushed through by Sony, to continue the 3D barrage of films convincing the public we need this technology (which we certainly dont).

To me it seems clear both the Uncharted and Devil May Cry films are being set up to be the same cash cow type.

I think as far as games in films the best we are ever going to get is Scott Pilgrim or that Manage Street Fighter film. Its pretty much downhill from here...

Enjoy these films but Afterlife really was tosh compared to 1. The first had a lot of charm and the zombies were well conceived. I'll still watch it like...

Well at least the Police Academy had more sequels maybe they should get Guttenberg in

This film franchise is much like the shambling, rotting corpses that fill it and needs to be shot in the head now!!

It's a shame because I love the games, they were a love letter to the cinema zombie greats, the least they deserve is a bit of tender loving in return, not a dirty, riddled facial!

I also hate these films, and I'm not just being a 'film snob', who disregards them just because they're low-brow. I saw Drive Angry 3D the other day and *that* was an entertaining, dumb movie. Resi is dumb but strangely self-serious, and very, very dull.

I HATE the term "haters gonna hate".

Guess that makes me a "hater".

Excuse me, I just threw up a bit.

Im a hater, Im hating muchly.
hating so very hard that my head will likely explode with effort like in the old sci-fi horrorfilm 'Scanners'.
Then I prepare to hate beyond the grave.

    /hateful sigh.

I think that the popularity of these films is down to Mila Jovovich. Tough, ass-kicking heroine who (I think) is fit as fuck.

I've seen them all (got the first one on BR). I liked the first two but thought the third was utterly dire. Afterlife was better but not by much.

Isn't it about time for a new Tomb Raider movie?
  • Haloboy #14 1 year ago

Is Michael Scofield in it again?

Being a gaming site and all that, would you not be better suited reporting on stuff like this?

I can't say that I profess any real love for these films; but for a night in with a pizza and some intellect-relieving entertainment, you could do much worse than them I reckon.

And for the record, Silent Hill still remains the best game-to-film adaptation for me. Clumsy plot nonwithstanding.

Have they included any in the franchise up til now?

In Hollywoods defense, the CG film the Japs made was gash as well.

"...like in the old sci-fi horrorfilm 'Scanners'."

    Old? White Zombie is old.
    Noferatu is old.

    Scanners is modern
  • space_ace #21 1 year ago

a very viable franchise, enjoyed them all
  • FortysixterUK #22 1 year ago

Great news I like the RE films ( except the 3rd one ).
  • geeza2020 #23 1 year ago

Great, another awful shitty mess of a film coming up then!
  • StolenGlory #24 1 year ago

    "Japs"?

What the fuck is this? World War Two?
  • kinky_mong #25 1 year ago

Mila Jovovich must be happy, if the Resi films end she won't work until her husband finds another video game series to ruin.
  • AcidSnake #26 1 year ago

Why is my comment being negged so much?

Because I do feel that RE5 is the worst in the main series...

And RE: afterlife was just absurdly stupid...I liked the first two, but the third was annoying and Afterlife really went off the rails...Like Mr Huge Guy With Axe...At least the other movies explained where the enemies came from...
Filled with plot-holes, vapid "acting" and taking itself waaay too seriously...

Their ok for a laugh. What i cant understand is why they havent given the series a reboot, like the games. Why cant they have a crack at making one based on the setting of resi 4 or resi 5? Fuck massive weapons heavy metal soundtracks and all that bolloks. Make them disturbing and tense ffs!

I can't hate them.. they have Milla Jovovich..
  • ha4pbl #30 1 year ago

These films are always a good bit of fun, but i hope they give the zombies a rest
Give us more from 4! Also please get devil may cry right.
Would give my right arm for a Bayonnetta cameo in either film (unlikely but well worth asking)
  • metalangel #31 1 year ago

Okay, only seen the first two.

    First one: Jovovich's nipple.
Second one: Both nipples and minge.

If this pattern has been followed, does this fifth one feature a massive gangbang with her getting it in all three holes?
  • Doctor_What #32 1 year ago

    @MetalAngel: Was that really necessary?
  • Miths #33 1 year ago

Great. There's no such thing as too much of Milla Jovovich kicking zombie ass :).
And Afterlife is by far the most amazing 3D showpiece I've seen so far - it didn't even pretend to be fairly subtle with its depth effects (like Avatar or Tron), but damn it looked fantastic.
  • SomaticSense #34 1 year ago

So, is this the one with Chris Redfield in space fighting aliens?

Or is it going to actually be like the games?
  • metalangel #35 1 year ago

  • TadejVig #36 1 year ago

    Fur fucks sake... no.
  • LazyNinjaUk #37 1 year ago

@MetalAngel - Hmm, good point. There may be hope for this wankfest of a film series yet, by making the fifth film a just that.
  • da3en #38 1 year ago

RE movies are kinda like zombies themselves. Unpleasant to watch and just wont stay down.
  • metroid455 #39 1 year ago

Whitster: this ain't WWII racist comments are not funny or justifiable.
and to your second point RE Degeneration was better than ALL OF the live action rubbish put together,
StolenGlory: agreed 100% about silent hill, wasn't there going to be a second movie?
  • e1venkind #40 11 months ago

stolenglory, you clearly know what you're talking about when it comes to film/game franchises, some work, some not so well. Silent hill is a shining examlpe of how to really bring the atmosphere of terror it deserved out. For the ones that fail take note if you make movies baring a trademark (R.E) the finised product should resemble something of the original inspiration. A HORROR/SURVIVAL with plenty of tenion and genuine unpredictabilty. Not to see if you can carpet half of the U.S. with shell casings and corpses. dont get me wrong i like r.e.1 r.e.2 but not as serouis films and for resi that is a crime. let's not mention 3+4 i wanted to destroy capcom after those foul creations
