Save your Gran Turismo 5 endurance race

Feature in development, says Yamauchi.

Being able to save your Gran Turismo 5 game during an endurance race is a feature "under development" right now, creator Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed.

"I'm sorry," he wrote in a tweet translated on GTPlanet. "Game saves during endurances: they are currently under development."

As it stands, finishing an endurance race in Gran Turismo 5 requires you sit there for four, nine or 24 hours and see it through.

Gran Turismo 5 is a success - particularly in Europe, where more than half of the game's total 6.37 million copies (as of December 2010) have been shipped.

Eurogamer awarded Gran Turismo 5 - a game "that overflows with love" - a massive 9/10.

The best selling Gran Turismo game remains Gran Turismo 3, however, with an enormous 14.89 million sales.

Eurogamer plays Gran Turismo 5. We're good, aren't we?

Fantastic, this is one of the main features I've been asking for. You can't fault PD for listening to their customers and providing excellent updates.

The game keeps getting better. I remember this feature in Le Mans 24h on Dreamcast: whenever you pitted you could save. It made the 24 races epic and, crucially, doable.
  • homerramone #3 1 year ago

I presume it will only allow you to save a specified intervals - else its not much of an endurance race.
  • nuanimal #4 1 year ago

Pedantic I know, but it no longer becomes much of an endurance race :o(
  • Felwyn #5 1 year ago

So now it's will be like racing the same track over and over day after day...sweet.

who does these things? come online you weirdos

  • Segaswirl #6 1 year ago

I only have 3 endurance races left, still... better late than never I suppose.
  • ielisdave #7 1 year ago

Another feature that should have been carried over from the previous game to start with. Now if I can get B-Spec fast forward back as well I'll be happy.
  • Eighthours #8 1 year ago

So how's the state of this game now? Is it really good yet?
  • natashaspice #9 1 year ago

@eighthours if your a need for speed hot pursuit burnout out split second junkie maybe. If your a car fanatic it will make your have wet dreams.
  • coolbritannia #10 1 year ago

Segaswirl, you've raced for 24 hours straight? Can you pause it?
  • Ryze #11 1 year ago

I'll be waiting for more of these updates, and hopefully an updated BD-ROM before I even try it.

GT5 Was a massive disappointment for me. Everything about it feels like it could have been better, the menus are appalling, why can't I use ALL of the cars in photo mode? What's the point in having the option to buy a new horn for the car, but not new brakes? Sorry Yamauchi, Forza 3 was just better.
  • Stop-gap #13 1 year ago

Oh good, I was just about to put the game away for good between the FormulaGT race I can't do with a controller and the over 4 hour endurance races I can't stand to sit through :)
  • telboy007 #14 1 year ago

Do you reckon new stuff will just come out forever? I don't think this guy knows when to stop. :)
  • GamesConnoisseur #15 1 year ago

Well petrol heads clealy prepared to accept long loading times, but this is my pet hate, and is why I m totally put off of Home as well.

Solid State HD would massively help but just too expensive, I think will get back into GT5 totally once SSHD got cheap enough at an attractive price per MBs.

For now, I merely grace GT5 occasionally until loadings get to me, I may need to see counselling about overcoming the loading issue?!
  • patootik #16 1 year ago

For those saying it's not really an endurance race anymore, you can still choose to do the whole thing in one sitting. But for those who were unable/unwilling to put 24 hours into a race in one sitting it's enabled us to finish the game. Thanks PD.
  • Segaswirl #17 1 year ago

@coolbritannia I haven't run the 24 hour races yet, I have the two 24 hour races left and the 9 hour one. You can pause the endurance races, although my PS3 slim runs pretty hot so I don't feel all that comfortable with leaving it on.
  • pantherjag #18 1 year ago

i reckon this may only be implemented for the 9 hour and two 24 hour races, 4 hour races at a push.

Hope its implemented in such a way that you just cant save every 2 laps and you actually have a element of endurance to complete the race. i dont think its unreasonable to ask people to drive for 2 hours.

    Just my 2 cents

I'm not trolling here - honest (!) but does no one here find it a bit odd that a '9/10' game that was in development for 6 years, and repeatedly missed ship dates is still being developed and having basic features added that most games would ship with... ?

'The game keeps getting better. I remember this feature in Le Mans 24h on Dreamcast'

I'm all for post sales support - but a lot of this smacks of something that should have been there day one - rather than a generous update. If I'm missing the point please let me know, but I'm baffled by all the goodwill being shown here (EG of all places !) for a 'AAA' game that didn't even ship with functional multiplayer.

A well needed update, only negative is the 1 million trading cap. Cheating or no cheating, that's been a hastily approved update to satisfy a minority who complained about the cloning. Sort that out and add more A Spec races and we might be on to something.
  • darkphoenix #21 1 year ago

    Better late than never.

Las time I B-Spec'd a 24 hour race, was greeted at the very end with a "Update request" and lost all XP.
  • SpookyTang #22 1 year ago

The game wasn't finished when shipped but kudo's to them for these updates. I can race for four hours max so had no chance with the 24h races as i'm not leaving my ps3 powered up for days, now i have the chance to enjoy them ^^
  • Raconteur #23 1 year ago

Good news. But then again, are the designers so out of touch with their product and customers that they had to wait for the community to demand it to realise it was needed? On the other hand, the argument could be made that GT5 is still probably a year away from being completed/fixed.

We need more versions of the Yaris! Nine is not enough!

I am buying a ps3 in the next few weeks, and GT5 is near the top of the list of exclusives to pick up, but I think i will wait until GT5 has dropped in price, and has had at least 2 more meaty updates before putting my hand in my pocket.
  • stegabba #25 1 year ago

you cant expect people to play the 24 hour enduraces on a spec of b no gaming console should be on for a straight 24 hours whether it will break it or not
  • drxym #26 1 year ago

What's the point of an endurance race if you can save and just go off on holiday?

It should be like Desert Bus. No saves, no pausing. If you quit the race, you quit the race.
  • bluetoothion #27 1 year ago

regardless of what should be in one day one...... these people are seriously working all the time. And there are so many developers out there not working half as much as PD and prefer working on sequels mildly imrpoved asking more of our money on each iteration...so i guess we should be focusing on that rather on how much we waited...
  • Caimbeul #28 1 year ago

That is actually a very good idea but i no longer have the game.

    Well Done Polyphony.
  • speedjack #29 1 year ago

    @bluetoothion

On one hand you seem to be suggesting that most game developers don't work as hard as PD when it took them 6 years to create an unfinished game in the space of time it took Turn 10 to make 3 Forzas ... Then you hold berate these same developers for working on 'more expensive sequels' when PD have just released the 5th (and arguably most expensive) iteration of a 13 year old franchise ?!!!

Yay! I can finally complete my GT5 career :D
  • Byzanite #31 1 year ago

And to the people who think that its only an endurance race if you race for 24 hours solid; they dont even do that in RL races. Most drivers drive for 1.5 to 3 hour stints, and sleep whilst their team mates take over.
I think its a very much needed feature to make what was a 24 hour solid drive into something that is far more managable.
  • coolbritannia #32 1 year ago

@Speedjack, I think the long development period meant certain aspects of the game were rather dated by the time it was released. Can't fault PD for rectifying those aspects post release though, it really is quality support they're providing.
