More DJ Hero, Guitar Hero DLC promised

"Let's call it an encore."

Activision has changed and has promised to release new Guitar Hero and DJ Hero downloadable content.

"I can confirm that there will be DLC for both Guitar Hero and DJ Hero in both March and April," wrote Activision community mouthpiece Dan Amrich on the One of Swords website.

Only last month Activision announced the closure of its Guitar Hero business following appalling sales of the once all-conquering franchise.

It said at the time that once February 2011 was over, no more Hero DLC would be released.

UK developer Freestyle Games is currently working with Activision "on various options going forward for the studio" as the threat of layoffs looms. Activision is in the process of axing 500 jobs across the company.

"As you might expect, there were some track packs already in the works, and rather than abandon them, they're being finished up and will be issued over the next two months," Amrich said.

"Let's call it an encore – and a thank-you to the fans for your support (Guitar Hero hit three million Likes on Facebook – and everybody involved in making GH really appreciates the love)."

Exactly when the content will be released, which songs and artists will be included and cost are all yet to be announced.

Whatever you do, don't call it a comeback.

AKA "Oh cripes, we have all this unreleased DLC lying around. Lets shove that out as quick as we can while people are somewhat forgiving of us"

an encore and a thank you we have to pay to receive?

Thought the DJ Hero DLC was always a bit shit. Not one DLC mix was as good as anything on the disc.

Instead of killing off the franchise how about not releasing a Guitar Hero game for a year two?
There's only so many plastic guitar games people will buy every year you know.

The funny thing about this is that an encore is usually performed because people want more of something. This is more of an ill-fated last stand.

You thank your fans for supporting you by killing the game that they've been supporting, excellent logic there.

Am I to assume that we won't be expected to pay for this "thank you"? Oh, we do have to pay for it? No thanks then. The Guitar Hero tracklists and DLC have been quite weak for quite some time now for a metal fan like myself, which is why GH Metallica was so well received I'd wager.

I honestly hope that this isn't the last we see of Guitar Hero, let it sit for a year and then come in at Christmas 2012/Q1 2013 with a proper guitar hero game, no band bollocks, just a guitar and a load of decent tracks, basically look back to the glory days of GH2 and GH3 where the game was at its best and do exactly the same again, but with more and better tracks followed by DLC requested by fans where possible. GH can be good again, if you're willing to listen to us to on how to make it good again.

DLC for DJ hero2 is good news now if you sort out the extortionate prices you may make some money!

I didn't understand why they don't carry on releasing DLC anyway. The reason sales have faltered is because people don't need any more expensive instruments. If you continued releasing songs (which presumably could be done with a skeleton staff?) then people will buy them.

I've never heard anyone say "I wish guitar hero did this", there's only so much you can do to a game where you press a button depending on which coloured discs are on the screen. People will always want new songs to play though.
