L.A. Noire pre-order treats will be DLC

Ditto Red Dead Redemption, finally.

Don't fancy pre-ordering L.A. Noire but worried you'll miss out on the various shop-offered early-bird goodies?

Rockstar has revealed they'll be sold as downloadable additions after launch - as will the Read Dead Redemption pre-order goodies at long last.

"All of the L.A. Noire pre-order content will be made available for purchase as DLC at some point after the game comes out," wrote Rockstar on its website.

"We have long planned to do this for all digital pre-order items.

"In case you're interested," the post added, "the Red Dead Redemption pre-order items (Deadly Assassin Outfit, Golden Guns Weapon Pack and War Horse) will finally be available for download via Xbox Live and PlayStation Network this April. Apologies that has taken so long, but we ran into some technical issues."

L.A. Noire can be pre-ordered from a variety of shops, each dangling a different piece of bonus bait before you.

L.A. Noire gameplay.

Did they say anything about a possible pc version? From the looks of it this is shaping up to be a mustplay

I never bothered using the Warhorse code I got with RDR, can't see the point in pre-order bonuses that give you an overpowered item. Would much prefer an extra level (or case file in this case), and not have it split between different retailers.

Looks awesome. If only I could play as Frank Cannon,Ironside or Jim Rockford,Kojak,Columbo.
  • M1chl #7 1 year ago

Tryhard: Columbo character in LA Noire would be awesome : D

Even though pre-order bonuses are getting out of hand - I'm still happy for the opportunity to buy them if I so choose.

I'd like to believe that the sheer number of people on their own forums saying "I'll not bother then" had something to do with this U-turn, I don't believe that it was long planned or they'd have announced it differently. "Various DLC packs for LA Noire to be offered for free as pre-order bonuses" rather than simply "pre-order bonuses"

Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to other devs/publishers who think that tying up actual game content as a pre-order bonus is a good idea, doubt it though.

They announced the as simply pre-order bonuses because otherwise they don't make the retailers' packages look so appealing, which is the whole point of pre-order bonuses.

would love to see an Ultimate Edition/GOTY of Red Dead Redemption TBH,nightmare pack included as well as everything else

as for L.A Noire,i was gonna pre-order from GAME as i think they had the best pre-order package, but money isn't at its best right now for me,so there was a chance i may of missed out,so this is great news

If it's free: okay then. If it's paid for DLC: not in your life am I going to endorse this.
  • X201 #13 1 year ago

    @metallicorphan

There is a GOTY coming for RDR

No mention of what's in it though

Should be on the disk in the first place instead of this "retailer exclusive preorder missions" horseshit
  • psychokitten #16 1 year ago

I suppose it depends on when they plan to release said DLC. If they're going to release it months later, it's kind of a moot point, since few will care by that stage.

I think outfits and so on as pre-order bonuses make sense, but not missions/levels/sections of the game :(

Those facial animations are amazing. Can't wait.
  • uknortherner2000 #18 1 year ago

Makes no difference really. This is still content that's been removed/locked away to be sold back to the consumer as an extra. Whichever way you look at it, no matter if you pre-order or wait until the beta testing's over, you are purchasing an incomplete game.

The Red Dead War Horse was great. Didn't preorder, I think it was Zavvi who stated selling the triple pack code alongside the game. But I certainly wouldn't want to pay for something just because I preordered from a different shop. Items like this, which are free incentives to purchase early, as opposed to new copies like Project Ten Dollar, should be given away free at a later date, say six months after initial release. It could still be with new copies, they could include a single use code with every game. Alan Wake gave you a code for the dlc which you just kept until it was available. This will also encourage new purchasers by reinvigorating interest in the game at a time when sales will have pretty much tailed off.

It's like companies don't want me to buy games anymore

Would be handy to know if they are all the same cost so I know where to pre-order from!

I got RDR in October (ie way after launch) from Play.com and it came with the 'exclusive' DLC, i didnt know the war horse and golden guns were part of a pre order thing but i got them. So sometimes dont need to pre order.

But i would like to add my voice to the crowd of 'pre order bonuses shouldnt give in game bonuses'. At moment iam looking at Crysis 2 and if pre order you get some multiplayer perks and stuff on steam.
  • gjgjg #24 1 year ago

was going to preorder from game to get the bonus stuff but no mention of it on their site...
