Halo: Reach Defiant map pack dated

New maps will set you back 800 Points.

Halo: Reach's new Defiant map pack launches on Xbox Live from 15th March, Microsoft has announced.

Like November's Noble DLC pack, it will cost you 800 Microsoft Points.

"Set in the heat of the legendary Battle of Reach, the three new warfronts – Condemned, Highlands and Unearthed – are primed for non-stop action in Firefight and all competitive multiplayer modes," read the announcement on Major Nelson's blog.

Reach launched on Xbox 360 late last year to widespread acclaim. "Reach is an encore, a victory lap, a crowd-pleasing last hurrah for a series that most definitely won't end here," wrote Eurogamer's Oli Welsh in his 9/10 review.

The last lot of maps were right good, and we can always use more. Not sure about 800 points tho.

This is the first Halo I've really played a lot multiplayer, and I must say that I am seriously impressed by the quality, and the support surrounding it. The rapidly changing game modes, challenges etc are first rate, and the online Bungie.net stuff is indispensible.

Modern Warfare 1 was my favourite online shooter for a long time, but this has it beat.

^^^ disagree with all of that, I got rid of the game after a few weeks cos it was so boring.

each entitled to their own opinion though

Please discount the last map pack to 400 points. I was hoping that it would have been included in the excellent Christmas offers but it wasn't.

The Reach maps, so far, have been fairly average... compared to previous Halo games, they are really lacking. Hopefully these maps, made by a different team, bring back some of that old flare from Halo 2/3.

I thought the first map pack was slightly average if I'm honest. They weren't oozing with the quality we usually expect from Bungie. I started to avoid them altogether after a few weeks. This new map pack looks fantastic though and I'm eager to give them a go, but the timing and price worries me.

First off, it's not really been too long since the last one came out. They came out early December if I remember correctly. Secondly, and crucially, it's price versus content. 800 points for 3 maps just doesn't represent value to me. I hate Activision because of their greedy money grabbing mindset and gave them the FU when the MW2 map pack prices were announced. But if you add it up, Bungie has now charged 1600 points for just 6 maps. Acti charged 1200 for 5 :/

I admire Bingie as much as any Halo fan, but you have to admit that their being rather greedy. I don't feel they get criticized for it enough because of their positive reputation. When the last Gears of War 2 map pack came out it came with 7 maps along with an extra campaign chapter and cost 1600 points. That's value. The combination of these two new Reach packs definately isn't and unless they end up being brilliant I think I'll be waiting for a price drop this time. Maybe in the Summer when I have nothing else to do. Hopefully the price will be cheaper by then too.

Die hard Halo fan here who has recently abandoned Reach ever since the last playlist update.

Team Slayer has become a DMR free zone and Multi Team is Rocket Race repetition bullshit.

The playlists were great before the last update.

I won't be back until they sort it out.

I find with online games its not just the quality of the game and its support that keeps me coming back, its all that combined with a good group of people that make it an awesome experience.

Reach has the support and game modes to cater for an incredible amount of group dynamics. It doesn't matter if its just you and a mate, or there's 16 of you or anywhere in between. The game never misses a beat and always delivers.

I love Reach, the multiplayer is superb - but I don't have any of the extra maps and I don't feel as though I need them!

However I do think 800 points for 3 maps is a bit steep, especially when you can get the superb Pac-Man Championship DX for half that amount too (or you could for a while, don't know if you still can...). I agree with scottycam that if you bring out new maps, then at least discount the previous pack of maps for a while.
