Just Dance 2 sees off Dead Space 2 in US

NPD: Nobody can unseat Black Ops.

Dead Space 2 entered the January US sales chart at number three, one spot behind Wii-exclusive rave-up Just Dance 2, according to new NPD data.

Other new entries LittleBigPlanet 2 and DC Universe also failed to trouble Call of Duty: Black Ops, which showed remarkable staying power to top the chart for a third consecutive month.

Here's how the full top 10 panned out:

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, Wii, NDS, PC) Activision Blizzard
  2. Just Dance 2 (Wii) Ubisoft
  3. Dead Space 2 (360, PS3, PC) Electronic Arts
  4. Little Big Planet 2 (PS3) Sony
  5. Zumba Fitness: Join the Party (Wii, 360, PS3) Majesco
  6. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, PSP, WII, PS2, PC) Take 2 Interactive
  7. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (360, PS3) Ubisoft
  8. Dance Central (360) MTV Games
  9. Michael Jackson The Experience (Wii, DS, PSP) Ubisoft
  10. DC Universe Online: The Next Legend Is You (PS3, PC) Sony

Software sales dropped five per cent on the same period last year, with hardware down eight per cent.

Japan is the only major region where COD flops. See? We call them queer and out of touch with what us Westerners want. At least they understand what we don't want! I'd take a million average quirky games over another COD any day of my life.

the fact little big planet 2 is up there top 5 when its just available for 1 gaming system thus sales for only one system and black ops which is available for 5 different gaming systems is number one says alot about little big planet 2,

It says even more about Just Dance 2 in second place.

The music genre isn't finished, just the bits of it that Activision flogged to death and involved filled up the airing cupboard with old plastic instruments.

I fail to see how CoD can hang on this long. You'd expect everyone who wanted to buy it would buy it in the first few weeks and then there'd be a lot less people... you know, still buying it.

Maybe Activision are quietly forcing all their employees to buy two copies a week? Those crafty filthmongers.

As a side note, I reckon EA have done alright in managing the Dead Space franchise.

Excellent games (all of them, including Extraction & iPhone!), so-so films, and obscure book/comics - its been easy to enjoy it all.

    Well done EA.

If you ever go to Japan you will see more shit games than you have ever seen in your life.

I guess the grass is always greener...

well look at it this way nay sayers, if cod didn't exist very few of those sales would transfer elsewhere. And a sucessful title means that people are employed and possibly new ones created.
Not to mention for the people that play it (snotty kids mostly) they use it as a social tool to connect with schoolmates trhu gaming. Something that they are more likely to do in the future and thus support the industry.
I can think of at least 1 guy I know who bought an xbox to play it w mates, now he has gone on to buy other games as a result.
*disclaimer, not all cod players are snotty school kids, but they don't sound very mature thru my speakers!

"Japan is the only major region where COD flops."

COD is not a flop in Japan, compared to other Japanese games of course.Large majority of Japanese devs would kill to have COD like sales in Japan.MW2 has sold more than Demon Souls there and that tells a lot about COD popularity.
    Try again...

Casual gaming grabs deadspace , throws it to the floor in a flash dance move , does a stylish twirl and stamps on its head and sends its eyeballs flying across the room.

At least DS is still in the top 10, which must mean pretty mega sales...and hopefully a 3rd game in the series ( excluding the Wii one ofc )
