I ZX Spectrum you'll want more.

Old ZX Spectrum game Jet Set Willy flops onto the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad (HD version) next week, Elite Systems has announced.

Jet Set Willy costs Ł1.19 or €1.59 - Elite says all its converted ZX Spectrum games will carry the same price tag.

Further down the line, these will be grouped under the ZX Spectrum: Elite Collection umbrella app. You'll be able to buy other games while using the app. Ooh nifty.

TV-out is supported for iPhone 4 and 4th generation iPod Touches and iPad. There's an auto-save feature and there are separate infinite-life versions.

That's not far off the price i (well my dad) paid for it back in the day! Good old games for Ł1.99 or Ł2.99 on tape

Think i'll pick this one up this was one of my favourites alongside back 2 skool!

How does the infinite lives option handle the "death traps"? (Where you fell into a new room, died on landing, and re-entered the room in exactly the same place... causing you to die on landing again... rinse and repeat!)

Matthew Smith (also responsibe for Manic Miner of course) - the stuff of legend. He says he had to program overnight because switching the kettle on made his computer crash. Interesting vids of him on Youtube, though I think we can guess he had quite a time living on the Dutch commune!

It’ll be pure shite to newbies but I’ll pick it up purely from a nostalgia perspective.

Ł1.19 is a bit pricey for a shite game though, compared to all the quality apps out there for the same price or lower in a lot of cases, especially considering you’ll boot it up perhaps once, remember those hot summer nights back in the day and then throw your iphone against a wall in frustration!

Android folks can use Marvin and grab various games from World of Spectrum. Biggest issue is a touch screen is not exactly optimal for emulating a spectrum's massively overloaded keyboard. Maybe it works better on models that have actual thumbpads.

deadly I loved this (except for when the rubber keys occasionally got stuck under the keyboard and killed me)

EXACTLY my first thought.

I miss games like Jet Set Willy and Monty on the Run, where trying to dodge things like evil moving toilets was perfectly normal.

Miner Willy was THE real gaming hero of the eighties in Europe , hardly anybody had a NES . Remember that young ones .Our only real experience of Mario was on those Game & Watch games , on Atari 2600 or on a display in Woolies where we'd all laugh at the high prices for games.

I was playing emulated Spectrum games on my phone back in 2003. With real buttons, and for free. The TV output didn't come until I upgraded in 2007 though.

Great game and perfect if you like respawned multiple deaths as you leap uncontrolled onto a sharp object/gizmo of some sort.

At least it's not a tape loaded version.

@smelly I'd really love to think so but sadly i doubt it , Software Projects probably sold the rights off before the majority of the members on here where born . I have both Manic Miner and JSW (including colour code security chart!) mounted on the wall above my monitor ! Guests love it when they spot them . People go on about the time its taking for the next Duke Nukem , well im still waiting for Miner Willy meets the Taxman ! Google it .
