PixelJunk Shooter 2 release date set

PSN sequel due next month.

Physics-based blaster PixelJunk Shooter 2 launches on PlayStation Network on 2nd March, developer Q Games has announced.

No price has been confirmed yet, though the excellent 2009 original sold for £6.29.

Executive producer Dylan Cuthbert took to the PlayStation Blog to highlight a few of the games new features.

"Compared to the original this game is packed even more full of lovely gushing liquid action across three entire new worlds," he promised, "and there is a whole new game in itself with the online versus mode we have put in there (over 20 weapons and abilities for you to use against your opponent).

"This is why it has taken a little longer than expected to get this into your hands, but we're really happy that now, after winging its way through the digital tapestry called 'game submission', it has been approved for release."

The trailer below should help you with the wait.

    First game was utterly brilliant!

Is it out yet? Is it out yet? (etc.)

It doesn't get better than this!

Pixeljunk games just get better and better. Although Monsters has been played more than any other game on the trusty PS3.

I just gushed liquid all over the screen too...

Yesss earlier than I expected. My most anticipated game of 2011.

Some disappointment though. Sounds like it isn't longer than the original, and sounds like they didn't include a level editor again. I can't think of any game it would make more sense for. Have a good idea, spray some rock into the empty space (no need to be quite accurate), add a gob of water here (will find its way down by itself), lava there, some destructible rock there, one point where more water comes from later, then a few workers, a few enemies, entrance, exit, done. A simple but enjoyable level could be a matter of 5-10 minutes.

Add a central user-content base with a 5-star rating system, and you'll have never-ending fun, not only with simple levels, but also with really ingenious ones.

PixelJunk Shooter is the only one I didn't like. Couldn't get in it. Disheartened to see that more of this '-junk' is coming. I wanted Monsters 2!

Really surprised there wasn't any DLC for the first one - would have snapped it up.

Thank god. I loved the first game and I feel it was over looked a little due to it being released right before Christmas. I loved just playing around with the physics in the first game. That mixed with the art style just made it a please to muck about with, even after I'd 100% it.

Loved the first game - it was a bit on the short side but still a great game and even priced fairly. I'm getting this for sure.

Please make Pixeljunk Monsters 2!!! Monsters is still the best tower defense game after all these years. Still play it on PS3 as well as PSP.

I have to be honest, looks near identical to the first. Probably won't be buying.

Seems a shame that there is even a part 2 coming out - they're like 'that game company' in the respect that they tend to pump out quality, original games one after another without cashing in on sequels.

I guess the first games ending left it inevitable though.

Almost a certain buy for me, overlooked the first one but then snapped it up on special offer last Christmas and immediately regretted not buying it sooner.

My one concern though, versus multiplayer? Was it really necessary? I don't think I've ever played a single player game and thought to myself "this single player game is great, shame I can't play a versus mulitplayer game loosely based on it" Might wait for a special offer on this, unless Sony intend to promote it by giving me it free with Plus (hint hint)
