Splinter Cell, POP Trilogies for 360?

ESRB says yes.

The US ratings board has listed Ubisoft's Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia HD trilogies for release on the Xbox 360.

Both collections have only been confirmed for release on the PlayStation 3.

Noticed by GamerXchange, the ESRB lists Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones HD, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time HD and Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within HD for release on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

On the Splinter Cell side, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell HD, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory HD and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow HD are all down for launch on Microsoft's console.

The PS3 has enjoyed a raft of HD collections in recent months.

God of War Collection, The Sly Trilogy and Ubisoft's own Prince of Persia Trilogy have all been released exclusively on the PS3.

A Splinter Cell Trilogy and Team Ico Collection are both in the works exclusively for PS3, but Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil HD is pegged for release on both consoles.

And, of course, Halo: Combat Evolved is rumoured to be on the receiving end of a HD makeover. They're all the rage, aren't they? And with good reason. The Prince of Persia Trilogy was great, as was the God of War Collection, as was The Sly Trilogy.

Eurogamer has asked Ubisoft for comment.

One part of me would rather they focused on new games. The other would like to finally get round to playing The Sands Of Time, which I carelessly missed first time round....

The one exception to this is with HD versions of Ico and SotC. These may be enough to make me shell out for a PS3, which is looking more and more tempting by the month.

Funny how these trilogy collections always work out for me.
In every case so far, I played and loved the first game, but never got to the sequels, although I always meant to..

God of War 2, Sly 2-3, Prince of Persia 2-3, Splinter Cell 2-3.
I have the best coming up though: I never played Shadow of the Colossus. Looking very much forward to that one.

Would love the POP trilogy on 360. Btw, does anyone know if they fixed the gamebreaking bugs for the PS3 versions? There was the planeterium save glitch in SoT, Sand Wraith in WW and one that I may be imagining in TTT.

I keep reading the Digital Foundry comparisons and wonder why on earth anyone would buy a PS3.

Be nice if Xbox 360 owners got the actual Xbox versions in HD, rather than the poorer Playstation 2 games.

Edit - Referring specifically to Splinter Cell

It would be pretty weird if they used the PS2 versions for the PS3 collection, and the Xbox versions for the 360 collection, so I think they'll just use the same version for both. Whether it's the PS2 or Xbox one, I don't know, but with Ubisoft, it might actually be the former. Do we have any info on that yet?

A Halo: Combat Evolved HD makeover would be fantastic. Surely, adding Live multiplayer would be do-able too. Although, is there a market for that now Halo MP has evolved even more?
  • CaptainQuint #9 1 year ago

Splinter Cell has always been dull as dishwater, I don't see how a HD makeover can change that.
  • sab3r #10 1 year ago

will they also bring in the respective SC multiplayers back too? SC:pD mp was quite frankly my fav of all time.

I'd rather stroke a goat off.

I'd be up for playing Sands Of Time again - awesome game.

Seeing as Splinter Cell originally launched on Xbox, isn't it a bit unfair to not confirm it for 360?
  • miiiguel #14 1 year ago

I never liked Splinter Cell, Tom Clancy is a douchebag, POP is boring and charismaless though I must admit I kinda liked Forgotten Sands, was not that bad (though maybe that was due to my very low expectations).

Halo CE on the other hand... yummy! Neon lights FPS at its best.

I am ashamed to say I have yet to experience any PoP game, bring on the trilogies!

miiiguel, your such a newb for disliking awesome games, the fact you only like Halo indicates your about 13/14!

I wish..., I'm 34. Anyway, what's the meaning of "newb", and what does that indicate ? :)
I kid, I kid. Happy for you that you like these games. Have fun.

Miiiguel as hardly a newb/noob/nube, just check the comment sections.
He does have a personal opinion though, which is bad and wrong, obviously.

Just play them on the PC in the correct resolution and you have HD :p

I've always contested that great games should be made available on both consoles and the POP Trilogy HD is a definite example of a great game. I'd prefer these remakes to be completely remade, 1080p is nice but the polygon count hasn't really improved so things can look a little blocky at times, especially in the earlier titles.

I think part of the reason for all these remakes has to be that all of the time consuming work has already been done. The assets already exist and it's just a case of rewriting the code and QA'ing it, a nice little earner for publishers between blockbusters to keep things moving.

It's also great for the industry as a whole as it aid staff retention. We've read about a lot of jobs cuts recently and the majority will be from QA/design, if these guys can be kept busy with a remake of a classic until the next big game then that's great news for them.

MS could pull a trick here and provide the "Halo: Combat Evolved" remake as multiplatform. Anyone who wants to play it has already probably played the original or up-rez'd version on the 360. By releasing for PS3 they could try and entice non-360 owners over to play the rest of the set on the 360.

It will never happen... not because it does not make sense but because of corporate arrogance.

Sony could do the same with the first God of War or something.

Project Eden should get a total HD remake, that would rock! (With 4 player online co-op)

I think the interest in these remakes says alot about how good these games are
It also high lights how poor both these franchises have been in recent years
Its not a good sign when gamers would rather replay your old titles then play the recent versions
    I know I would.

Case in point I would love a ghost recon pack ubi!!!
