Company of Heroes Online cancelled

THQ pulls plug on WWE Online too.

Real time strategy MMO Company of Heroes Online has been canned, THQ has confirmed.

Speculation was rife that the title could be for the chop following news yesterday that the beta had been closed, and the publisher confirmed the cancellation during an earnings call today.

Its WWE Online MMO has also been put on the scrap heap.

As way of an explanation, THQ said it had "reevaluated its strategy of adapting certain Western content for free-to-play online games in Asian markets."

Developed by Canadian studio Relic Entertainment, Company of Heroes Online went into its beta phase on 2nd September, but that's as far as it will go. It was intended as a massively multiplayer spin-off of the acclaimed 2006 PC strategy title.

Company of heroes = best RTS possibly. Need another. I am surprised it went so long without a sequel. Maybe now that controllers that can provide mouse like functions are on the consoles, we might get a new one ported to Pc from consoles (lame world of gaming nowadays.

THQ suddenly realized that they don't know how to milk money properly to make a game competitive in the asian market. I'm totally unsurprised. I didn't think this would float(Starcraft), even though it is a pretty cool idea and is significantly better than its competition(Starcraft).

    Dammit. It was fun!
It had a diffirent type of strategy, you could get special items that you could use in single-player or multi-player.
Stupid suits at THQ. First they decide to change their logo to something that is 'kid-friendly' and now they pull the plug on something that could be their next proper step in RTS. I would like to see a similar kind of system for CoH2 then.

The real news is that people could already purchase the in-game currency in beta which would have been used in the final game and this money is gone now, too...
