The adverts for the post-apocalyptic incarnation of webuyanycar.com were particularly zany.

Webuyanycar, dot com! Webuyanycar, dot com! Webuyanycar, dot com! Webuyanycar, dot com! Webuyanycar, dot com! Webuyanycar, dot com! Webuyanycar, dot com!

But seriously, this does look gorgeous.

Eye-searingly gorgeous. Shame I don't own a shit-hot gaming rig, cos I can't imagine it'll look quite that lovely on my PS3 or my Xbox. Still nice though, I'm sure.

    @smithdown.

For the record, the 360 build that was shown at the EG Expo in October (the one fucking presentation that they weren't allowed to film) looked insanely beautiful.

I see they still haven't found a way to add colors in their engines, probably to scale it down for consoles...

Seriously, the game looks great, even though I hate vehicular combat and am getting weary of the post-apocalyptic setting, but I'll keep my eye on this 'cause it's id after all...

So... nice graphics, what about the game?
  • spekkeh #10 1 year ago

I still don't really have an idea why I should be buying this.

I soooo want this to be great . A cross between Doom, Borderlands and Fallout's post-apocalyptic vibes could be the game of games for me! I certainly can't find it in me to doubt id.

iD have built up a bit of a reputation of outdated gameplay wrapped in great tech (Doom 3 anyone?). And in some of the more recent outings, the tech wasn't even that hot anymore.
Still their megatexture stuff looks absolutely amazing, and it looks like Rage might turn out to become a proper iD game and a return to form.

I don't want anymore screenshots ID, give me the game!!

The screenshots are looking very very good.

Lets hope we also have advanced A.I routines implemented. For me the basic
two trends of a clever a sophisticated A.I. are addaptation and randomization.

Addaptaion: The opponent addapts its self to your style of fighting becoming
either more aggresive or either more conservative.
Randomization: Each time you play in same area of the level you never
encounter opponents appearing in exactly the same positions and at the
    same time.

Also I hope they improve the weak cover system of the opponents you fight
against. For example, when they fire at you behind lets say a wall or a boulder
they leave exposed a small part of their body, their hands or legs or the top
of their head usually. So you easilly can exterminate your opponent by aiming
at these parts of the body shooting two or three times.

Lets hope this great graphics are accompanied by equally good A.I. procedures.
