UK charts: LittleBigPlanet 2 number one

PS3 Mass Effect 2 helps RPG into seventh.

Sony and Media Molecule's enchanting user-generated platformer LittleBigPlanet 2 has entered the UK all-formats chart at number one.

It shoved Activision's first-person behemoth Call of Duty: Black Ops into second place.

Ubisoft's monster party hit Just Dance 2 remains in third. EA Sports' FIFA 11 drops down to fourth and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood climbs two places to fifth.

Elsewhere, Mass Effect 2 pops up in seventh place as a result of the release of the long-awaited PS3 version.

great, my LPB2 arrives today! i hope the unplayably laggy online co-op from LPB1 has been fixed
  • handsonhips101 #4 1 year ago

Is it worth buying? I didn't enjoy the level making in the first one, too complex for me. Played the single player through, played online a bit, then put it on the shelf. What can it offer for a semi fan like me?

Sweet - just proves us Brits have a sense of good taste.

Love the game, and great to see somthing other than guns or balls can reach the top spot:p.
  • Ultrasoundwave #7 1 year ago

Delighted to see this at number 1.

Me and the missus got stuck into it on the weekend, an absolute gem of a game that really does deserve all the success it gets. Think we both feel quite sad that we spent an hour yesterday coming up with ideas for a level to create!

    Well Done Media Molecule :D

Great to see LBP2 right up there at the top. Love Media Molecule!

    Awesome game.

Hopefully they will fix the online issues soon. Whenever someone tries to join or I join them, it takes an age to load and usually can only make it work by turning off the controller or bringing up the XMB.

Still, once they fix the above, the game will be perfect.

    ME2 only managed 7th?!

    The shame!
  • abdo #14 1 year ago

No surprise there. Pre-ordered it from bee.com and it came Friday. I don't usually get games at full price the day they come out, but some games ard exceptional and deserve it. Last one I bought at launch at full price was probably Demon's Souls last summer.

Congrats MM and thanks for another wonderful game. I absolutely loved the first one and the sequel is just as great.

    TYUB........ummmm wrong place.
  • nuanimal #16 1 year ago

Who the hell is buying 007: Blood Stone!?
  • Murton #17 1 year ago

Surprised to see this topple COD if I'm honest. Love LBP and I'm stioked that it has taken the top spot but I fully expected Black Ops to ride until Dead Space 2 at least if not longer.

Grats to mM on another great title, looking forward to getting my hands on it once I have the cash to spare.
  • onyxbox #18 1 year ago

Bought it (LBP2) on Saturday and finished the story in roughly 2 x 4 hour sittings... it's fabulous but a bit short if I'm honest.

If you didn't like the first then I'd say give it a miss. If you like the first and are not interested in the level creation then rent or buy it when it's cheap.

If you love the whole community stuff & create mode then you will absolutely love it.

Well deserved placement for LBP2 - awesome game!

The last boss keeps killing me though... damn you, Negativitron!!
  • Steroyd #20 1 year ago

A platformer dethroning an FPS warms the heart it does... well I don't know if LBP2 can be classified as a platformer anymore, you can turn it into a FPS.
  • Flabio #21 1 year ago

@nuanimal - 007 Blood Stone is on sale at the moment.
  • Steroyd #22 1 year ago

    ME2 only managed 7th?!

    The shame!

    I think that's briliant considering you can probably get ME2 on Xbox 360 for £5 - £10.
  • Mkwone #23 1 year ago

    Better than Eurogamer's predicted 5th place. :D

I'm loving it at the moment.

    Spent

3 hours on the storey mode and have finished Victoria's levels (not 100% nor aced, just placed through)

Been through all the tutorials watching the video's which was proably another 3 hours

Spent an hour or so playing the community levels

And then 3 hours mucking about in create mode trying out different things. I can't believe how easy it is to create some things. To create a working simple ship for a side scrolling shooter takes a couple of minutes.

The best game won, awesome job MM its an ace game.

    "ME2 only managed 7th?!

Released at the same time as one of Sony's highest rated and most respected exclusives, for a year old title to namage to be the 2nd best selling PS3 game is an achievement, as far as I'm concerned.
  • des #26 1 year ago

It sold less than LBP...95 units less

    From Chart-Track
"Launch week sales of the first and second LittleBigPlanet games are almost identical with the latest game only 95 sales short of the original. "

So now if someone finds LBP launch numbers we could find LPB2 numbers...charts are pretty low now though

Might have helped ME2 sales if they got their shipments etc right.

Went in to Gamestation in Leeds on Friday and they said it was out next week and had none in stock... went down the road and it was on the shelf of a smaller store. mad.
  • Dave52 #28 1 year ago

LBP2 is absolutely top drawer... Fully deserved number 1 spot...!
  • gillri #29 1 year ago

people should be buying ME2 over LBP2
  • NotSoSlim #30 1 year ago

People will buy what they want and enjoy. LBP2 is class

GT5 still in top 10 and still near full rrp...Sony will be happy.
  • TopKatt #31 1 year ago

    @gillri

A lot of PS3 owners will already have played ME2 if they own either a PC or Xbox as well though.

Sure and also the fact that a good proportion of PS3 owners would likely have had played ME2 on PC or X360, such as myself.

So 7th is a good achievement, and I m loving LBP2 far far more than I did the first one, so refined and so much more entertaining. Well done MM!
  • paulf #33 1 year ago

that is probably the best news in videogame chart history
  • Arwin #34 1 year ago

Go go LBP2. It's awesome, can recommend it to anyone. The new levels are way more varied (all the different upgrades and tools/weapons, play-modes, scrolling styles and what not) and polished - quite a big change from the original if you go back now. And the user created levels are something else now - there's a Super Stardust clone in there that looks and plays awesome, there's a tower defense game, etc.
  • makeamazing #35 1 year ago

I am still trying to play through ME1 on Xbox before i buy ME2 on PS3, so no point me getting it just yet... did get LBP2 for my daughters birthday... the kids had a blast on it, but i also got through the first set of levels and personally i think its a big step up from LBP1. Shame its sold the same so far as LBP1, thought it would do better to be honest, well hopefully the USA sales will make it have a better first week than LBP1.

DC Universe is dropping like a stone. Sony are saying stock levels are low because of high sales but this tells a different story.

Most outlets are out of stock and have been for over a week, with some stores never even getting it in. HMV near me didn't received a single copy. What are Sony playing at?
  • damoxuk #37 1 year ago

To above post about DC Universe online all the online stores are showing this as out of stock so I'd guess there is stock problems to an extent.

Also consider the fact a lot of places didn't even stock this title.

Sony underestimated demand for this title. Still won;t get it like Wow is enough mmo for me.

    TheDrifter: "LBP1.5"

Really...? Have you played it? It is a huge step forward - a brilliant sequel to a brilliant platformer. Get over it.
  • slippysloppy #40 1 year ago

    @betahoven

If it's selling so well then why isn't it much higher? It went in at 10 and dropped to 22. Most games that sell out are at the top not much lower down the charts. It makes no sense to have a sell out game but relatively low sells figures, anyone can sell out if stock is limited.
