New PSP2 details revealed

3G support but no phone calls.

Sony's PSP2 will have 3G support that enables gamers to play online games and download software and movies – but not make phone calls.

That's according to Japanese newspaper Nikkei (translated by Andriasang).

Nikkei's information debunks a report from UK trade magazine MCV that claimed the PSP2 may incorporate a phone.

According to Nikkei, the PSP2 uses a organic light emitting diode (OLED) touch screen and a new processor Sony developed to handle high resolution visuals. The paper also claims the PSP2 will feature standard wireless LAN, as expected.

Nikkei's information comes just days before a Tokyo press conference that is expected to reveal the heavily-rumoured handheld.

The PSP2 is said to have touch controls on the reverse of the unit and enough horsepower to reproduce visuals on par with those seen in early PlayStation 3 games. It is expected to release this year.
