Metal Gear Solid next for HD revamp?

Facelift rumoured for first three titles.

The first three Metal Gear Solid games are the next oldies lining up for an increasingly fashionable HD makeover, according to insider sources.

CVG has reported that the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine has the scoop, but doesn't offer any further details as to when we might see the games, how they will be delivered or whether they'll be exclusive to PlayStation 3.

The titles referred to by OPM would presumably be the 1998 PSone original, 2002 PlayStation 2 follow-up Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater from 2004.

We've contacted Konami for comment and will update if it confirms or denies.

One Metal Gear Solid remake has been confirmed by the publisher though – the upcoming 3DS take on Snake Eater – while Metal Gear Solid: Rising, due next year on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, should sate the appetites of those after something new.

The Splinter Cell, God of War, Prince of Persia and Sly Cooper franchises have all been given a fresh lick of HD paint recently, with Ubisoft's 2003 cult classic Beyond Good & Evil next in line for re-appraisal when it hits Xbox Live Arcade in February.
