Kojima hiring for "next gen MGS series"

Wants PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 experience.

Kojima Productions is hiring for "Next Generation Metal Gear Solid Series Production Staff".

The job listing on Konami's Japanese website (spotted and translated by Andriasang) is sure to interest fans of the long-running stealth series.

The programming category asks for people with experience on "PC/PS3/Xbox360". Under the graphics listing, KP asks for those who are interested in conducting research into next generation CG.

2008's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Will Metal Gear Solid 5 be a multiplatform release?

In October last year game developer legend and MGS creator Hideo Kojima tweeted: "Had our first meeting for the next 'A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME' with the core team members today. Some member are also participating on 'RISING' so 10 people total this time. We will have a meeting every morning to discuss planning, testing, research, and scouting. An open environment to talk about important issues and share our dreams and concept for the project."

Was he talking about Metal Gear Solid 5? In July Kojima said in an interview: "For the next game I make, it's either MGS5 or an original game. I only have these two choices."

What happened to 4 being his last one?
  • wyp100 #2 1 year ago

4 was never going to be his last one.
  • captain_Carl #3 1 year ago

    @Lexx

He's said that about every MGS since MGS2 (maybe before). Did you honestly believe him?
  • AcidSnake #4 1 year ago

OK, do they mean next generation (PS4, XboXneXt, WiiHee) or this generation that most people still call next generation?

Also, didn't they say they were going to stop making MGS games after the second one? Has to be an original game then...unless they lied!

EDIT: Why all the random negs? Don't you people know how to love? On the battlefield? Otacon?

How about he makes a game this time? Pretentious w**ker.

Trophy patch for MGS4 please, then MGS5 please.

    Please thanks.
  • Lexx87 #7 1 year ago

Carl no that's the joke :p
  • SeesThroughAll #8 1 year ago

According to what he said in the past, any MGS5 will surely be multiplatform.

But please, make a downloadable port of Peace Walker for the PS3 (and 360, if the engine permits).
  • spliffhead #9 1 year ago

Mr Kojima it's 2006 on the phone...
  • Golgo #10 1 year ago

I love the way Hideo Kojima doesn't even bother pretending anymore that he's ever going to stop making MGS.

So with Rising being multiplatform and this ad wanting people with experience on "PC/PS3/Xbox360 for this new MGS game it seems they are no longer in Sony's pocket. Bet that hurts.
  • Mughes #13 1 year ago

My money's on remakes of the first two. There's just nowhere left for this series to go. Between MGS4 and Peace Walker the overall plot is almost entirely tied up now, save for Raiden's storyline in Rising. What else can they possibly do without starting a completely new story? Metal Gear Johnny?
  • infernox1 #14 1 year ago

metal gear solid game on the pc?? thats awesome

I'd love to see remakes of the original two games. With current gen technology, the second game will hopefully be a lot more playable (wasn't a patch on the first!)

But a PS3 Peace Walker would also be welcome.
  • telboy007 #17 1 year ago

Play twin snakes on the gamecube, thats all the remake you need. Its really rather good.
  • Nithron #18 1 year ago

Please port MGS4 to something. PC, Xbox, I don't care, I really don't want to buy a PS3 just for one game.

Yeah I know the PS3 has other great games, but i'm skint, and none of them really interest me.
  • vizzini #19 1 year ago

If Metal Gear 5 isn't primarily “developed” as a platform exclusive then this will be the first Metal Gear game I'll be passing on.

It is a real shame because the the quality of Guns of the Patriots, MGS/Twin Snakes, Snake Eater and Peace Walker have been really great up until now, mostly because they complimented their respective hardware's so well and had good stories.

I'm already 70% decided I don't want the coming Raiden game; but if MGS5 follows suit as a multiplat at the design stage, then Snake Eater 3DS could end up being my last outing in the MGS universe.
  • Mughes #20 1 year ago

@sven_vath With that kind of appreciation for cohesive story-telling you could go far in an Activision managerial role.
  • jag10 #21 1 year ago

Metal Gear Solid 4, best game of this generation so far. will probably only get beat by Metal Gear Solid 5.
  • bad09 #22 1 year ago

    @vizzini

Wait you would actually pass on a game just because it's not a platform exclusive? What a strange thing to do.

Did you pass on MGS2 as well?

As much as I'd like hum to do something new I'm such a sucker for Kojima I'll take whatever he offers.
  • BOBBYLUPO #24 1 year ago

I assume the next game will be a reboot/remake to stop it from turning into a high-tech Last of the Summer Wine.

The old man fight in MG4 was pretty incredible though.
  • spiritsnake #25 1 year ago

im with vizzini, if its not a platform exclusive then it wont take full advantage of hardware. mgs4 and uncharted are a good testimonial to that! he can release it on the pc for all i care, but not on the xbox260. NO
  • bad09 #26 1 year ago

I have to ask why are people marking me down exactly? From Rising and this ad Konami are clearly moving away from Sony exclusives for MGS which no one can deny is a huge blow for them, that's not my fault SDF you sensitive souls!
  • sfp_noodle #27 1 year ago

Hang on a minute, what happened to the whole "Peace Walker is the MGS5 within me" crap then? Face it Kojima, the MGS series is your baby. You wouldn't dare hand it over to anyone else which is the very reason your supervising Rising.

Also, remakes of Metal Gear 1 and 2 please! I have them on my Subsistence disc but they were unplayable on my old CRT TV. I'm afraid of trying them through my HD screen for fear of losing my eyesight after witnessing something so hideous.

Finally, Kojima remade the original MGS way too early. Twin Snakes came out just over 5 years after the original. How is that a remake? Cash-in sounds more appropriate. And it was crap. Snake looked like Neo in disguise. And why the hell does he want to shoot Baker, an old man whose been tortured and had his arm broken by a sadist when he can't remember Meryl's frequency? He reacts like a 4 year old kid. Snake isn't irrational like that.

Anyway, remake the original games please, and for the love of god, give the series closure. MGS4 kind of did that, but then Peace Walker popped out and gave yet more info and then Rising was bloody announced too. It's an amazing series sure, but you can't just keep imagining up stories and find ways to fit them into the universe. Start afresh and change the name. Stealth games can be made with a different name and different characters Konami.
  • Mughes #28 1 year ago

    @bad09

The majority of MGS games have appeared on other consoles in some form or another anyway.
  • Loneck #29 1 year ago

I like MGS series, but I am for original game. I think Kojima have a lot of ideas for new IP.
  • sfp_noodle #30 1 year ago

    @bad09

Your getting marked down because of your immature fanboy baiting comments. Konami were never in Sony's pocket you fuckwit. The original MGS came out on both PS1 and PC. MGS2 was on PS2 and then granted an Xbox port. Twin Snakes was strictly Gamecube. There was also a Game Boy Colour MGS game. MGS3 and 4 are the only ones that have been Sony exclusive. Subsistence never saw an Xbox release because MS killed it off, Even though Kojima expressed his interest in releasing an Xbox version because of it's online capabilities. That's 3 games out of 7 that were exclusive to Sony's platform.

Isn't it a good thing that more people get to enjoy good games? Have you not witnessed how many games companies, and very good games companies are being shut down because they're not making enough money? Going multiplatform has become logical for every developer this gen unless paid by a platform holder. Also, I fail to see how anyone would be "hurt", as you eloquently put it. If that's your way of thinking, then were you also hurt when Sony managed to bag former 360 exclusives such as Bioshock and Mass Effect? Don't be ridiculous.
  • bad09 #31 1 year ago

    "immature fanboy baiting comments"

? Sorry my choice of words upset you so but I'm not baiting anyone so get over yourself. I merely meant this is a big blow for Sony, MGS bar the odd venture on other platforms is heavily associated with the Sony brand, hell I didn't even know MGS is on the PC (must hunt that down).

    bad09 says:

The last 3 words of that sentence sums you up. Give it up. You were being a dick and you know it.

  • bad09 #35 1 year ago

    @sfp_noodle

What are you on about you sensitive soul? "Bet that hurts" was talking about Sony not sad little fanboys. Like I said more MGS games going multiplatform must hurt Sony considering how tied to the PS brand MGS is. Not fanboy baiting merely commenting on the situation.

Like I said sorry if my choice of words upsets you but if anyone is being a "dick" it's you.
  • vizzini #36 1 year ago

My issue with multiplats is that mostly we want games to have artistic status like other media; but would you call it painting art, if someone painted two different canvases (simultaneously) of the same scene? or would the lack of uniqueness and focus on one painting lose something from both paintings making them more like prints?

Would it not be more artistic to comeback and paint the second canvas at another date or use another artist?

Son's of Liberty was good at the start(I've played on both platforms) but feels very claustrophobic on the big shell and too detached from reality in its science fiction. This was also around the time when Konami (with PES) unwisely followed EA(& others) into multi platform development and releases, and I could start to feel a loss of focus/staleness creep into all their game development that wasn't there before.

MG2 is probably the metal gear game I would want remade, rewritten, first. As it is definitely the game I like least by how the story pans out, and technically feels below par; even though the music and opening incursion is one of my favourite game cinematic scenes, almost as good as the halo jump in snake eater.

Konami are a multiplat dev unsurprising they put games out on multiple platforms. If you want exclusives then the platform holder has to get their finger out. Well, at least Nintendo and Sony are vaguely useful at that...

    Bloody fanboys....
  • zealcore #42 1 year ago

Are you sure it's 'stuff' and not 'staff' in that sentence?
  • Silent-Hal #43 1 year ago

After Rising I really hope they move forward with a new story. Its not a secret that most prequels/interquels/whatever lack narrative tension because we already know what happens to certain characters and know what has to happen to move the story along to its end point. MGS3 was brilliant but neither Portable Ops nor Peace Walker really added anything worthwhile to the overall story. The current story arc is over, unless you really do have some new and interesting stories to tell to fill in the gaps then let it go.

P.S. Knock it off with the console wars bullshit please. It rather lowers the tone.
  • jackdoe #44 1 year ago

Kind of obvious that they are expanding staff for Metal Gear Rising. I mean, it is Kojima Production's first multiplat game so they obviously weren't prepared for it.
  • Reckless99 #45 1 year ago

At the end of MGS4 Otacon said something about following snake and writing his story down, don't remember the exact lines but I know he said it. Maybe MGS5 will be that, Snake will on his deathbed talking about all the things he did and you get to replay those memories. Or it could be whole new series, it's Kojima! This guy jizzes creativity so anything is possible. As an MGS fan I'm happy that I get to play another brilliant game from him.
  • Antaios #46 1 year ago

We all knew MGS4 wasn't going to be the last one, so: MGS5 please.
  • geeza2020 #47 1 year ago

Will we ever see MGS4 on 360? Probably not, and this makes me sad, not because I'm a 360 fanboy, but because I can't afford the £250 it would cost me to buy a PS3 in order to play one game.
  • dadrester #48 1 year ago

DX11 research ahoy! I'd love to see what they're planning on doing tech wise. Also... if we go by the 'Kojima rule' then whatever this project turns out to be will be good. it's an odd numbered MGS and it will be following a slightly disappointing MGS i.e. rising... now before you neg me for the Rising comment... listen to my logic... I'm going to ignore spin off's like ghost babel or portable ops (though as i'm making this up i get to chose what to ignore (also... i really want rising to be good)

    mgs - great
    mgs2 - not so great
    mgs3 - spellbinding
    mgs4 - lacklustre
    mgs peace walker - amazing
mgs rising - following a good game...
mgs next - following a game that followed a good game :D
  • cheeky_master #49 1 year ago

Please remake the original MGS with MGS4 engine or better! :-D
