Final Fantasy XIII-2 domain registered

More to come from Lightning and Snow?

A company that has registered website domains on behalf of Square Enix in the past has nabbed finalfantasy13-2game.com.

Internet sleuth supererogatory spotted the registration and then tweeted it.

Registrant Corporation Service Company is, as supererogatory notes, Square Enix's normal registrar, and has put its foot down on websites for Mindjack, Nier and Gun Loco in the past.

So, what is the domain for? Fans of divisive RPG Final Fantasy XIII will hope it relates to a direct sequel. Such a move would not be without precedent: In 2003 Square, as it was then, broke with Final Fantasy tradition and released a direct sequel to Final Fantasy X, called Final Fantasy X-2, for the PlayStation 2.

Square Enix hosts an event this month, called the Square Enix 1st Production Department Premiere. Could Final Fantasy XIII-2 make an appearance?

Controversially, I enjoyed FFXIII, especially (and even more controversially) the first 20 hours on cocoon. A sequel would be welcome by me :)

    The return of the dress-sphere?!

The return of villages and shops and shop keepers hopefully

Please Squeenix, just don't: XIII was bad enough, we really don't need a sequel (which, going from past history, is going to be even worse). Just get to work on a proper new Kingdom Hearts so we can pretend last year didn't happen.

I rather enjoyed XIII too, even though it's a sub-par effort for the series. Versus XIII doesn't interest me, nor does Agito. What I've seen and heard of those, they just ooze generic Nomura emo style storytelling. I hope I'm wrong, but at the moment it just doesn't look very appealing to me.

Edit: and it would be brilliant if Square-Enix would not take forever when it comes to Final Fantasy. They need someone there that did what John Lasseter did for Disney; put a stop to the plethora of sub-par sequels and spin-offs and focus on making quality games again.

Final Fantasy games are just not open world. If you want to have that, pick up Oblivion or something.
Linearity is not a bad thing if pacing and story are bang on.

    @Widge

But the pacing was terrible and the story was just saying the word Cie 5000 times.

Never finished XIII, probably never will seeing how bored and frustrated I became with it.

Would rather they work on Versus, but if they do make a follow up I hope its a bit darker and obviously more like the PS1 FF games.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Just the mere thought of Hope returning in any form makes me want to kick kittens.

Please concentrate on a new game Square. Final Fantasy XIII was shit, and the last thing I want to do is spend any more time with some of the most flimsy, two dimensional, dislikeable characters I have ever had the misfortune to encounter in a video game.
  • Stuz359 #14 1 year ago

Makes sense. They spent ages developing their game engine and being able to re use art assets to create a quick sequel makes financial sense from their point of view. The amount of time needed to create an entirely new game would probably mean it would be on the PS4 anyway.

Please be good. They know where they went wrong. Maybe they can repair the damage. Maybe...

I wouldn't mind following the continuing adventures of these characters, in a better sequel. looks like the ff13 universe could take up this whole console gen and we won't see a ff15 till next gen or late into this one like ff12 was late in the last.

Maybe they just wanted to admit that FFXIII was a big pile of Number Two?

I actually enjoyed XIII regardless it was linear. The storyline of the game prevented it from being open-world (L'Cie the enemies of Cocoon running around shops buying stuff on Cocoon or Gran Pulse, a world wild and un-tamed filled with villagers and shops, NO WAY!). A sequel would be welcome by me as long as I get to keep my stats from my first game and start the game powerful than starting off from Level 1.

Everything about XIII was brilliant (except for the visuals but they were not half bad) and the game had brilliant pacing. The characters were likeable (Fang Rocks!) and the battle system was easy to get into. Most people will disagree with me but you can't just please everyone now, can you?

I rather liked FFXIII... up until the pacing grinded to a total halt when it went open-world and became a bit of a grind. It was RPG comfort food really, a bit of dumb fun that didn't need all that much imput from the player. As shallow as JRPGs come, but not entirely without merit.

FFXIII had no sense of fun whatsoever, similar to FFX. Conversely, I enjoyed X2 immensely because Square did something totally different for once and really went wild. If XIII2 will do the same, go for it. Just DON'T, please, give us another emo-fest. No fucking thank you.
