Bond film confirmation sparks game talk

Raven at the helm?

The 23rd James Bond film will go into production later this year and, according to reports, a videogame set to tie-in with it is in the works.

Deadline reports that Bond 23, starring Daniel Craig, will enter production in late 2011, with a worldwide release on 9th November 2012.

"Yet another James Bond videogame, which also had been held up because of the uncertainty, recently got the go-ahead," Deadline reports.

Attention now turns to the potential developer of the mystery James Bond game.

Last month early footage of Singularity developer Raven Software's rumoured stealth James Bond game emerged. It appeared in the show reel of animator Hanjin Song – since removed from the internet following copyright claims by Activision.

The footage revealed a James Bond game that echoed Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Conviction. Bond was seen crouching behind cover, performing takedowns and shooting from a third-person perspective.

Last year one of Raven's two internal teams – the one responsible for 2009's so-so Wolfenstein reboot – was supposedly pulled off an unannounced 007 title by Activision to help make map packs for Call of Duty, while another finished up Singularity.

Wolfenstein was very disappointing. I loved Return to Castle Wolfenstein and was expecting a lot more. Raven games seem to be a bit hit or miss. It will be interesting to see what they can do with a movie license. This is the first time they are doing a movie tie-in, or did they do something like this before?

    Fuck the game, Bonds back!

This day is now national fuck your secretary day. Poor Clegg will be getting bummed by Cameron.

Nothing that's directly tied to a movie release but they've done lots of licensed games - Star Trek, X-Men, and the awesome Star Wars Jedi Knight games.

I did not know that, thanks! I think I could get interested in this.

Casino Royale was such a great film. Quantum of Solace was so, so bad. Get Casino's director (who also did the excellent GoldenEye) and a good script and maybe they can turn it around again. But man, Quantum was disappointing.

That must have been a shitty day at work.

"Right team, lets get to work on our new James Bond 007 game!"
    "Yeah!!"
"Oh actually, I've just been told we get to make some fucking shitty map packs for a shitty fps"

I recently watched Quantum of Solace on DVD and I enjoyed it quite a lot. It's much better than I had remembered it. It just doesn't have much in common with bond films but as a standalone action movie it does quite well.

Great. Such diversity in that another Bond film is always good new, but another Bond game is always BAD news

I've never really liked the Bond films. Casino Royale was only good because it tried quite hard to copy Bourne.

good news (about the film) should give people a day off work when this is released simply because its more important than that shitty royal wedding, fucking royals the thieving bastards take all the tax payers money to spend on heating up their palaces and flying to abu dhabi

No one travels around the world on taxpayers' money more than James Bond.

Casino Royale was great, It wasn't even that much of an action film yet its the only one since the first Connery films to echo the true essence of the novels. Quantum of Solace is fun but yeah nowadays its almost automatic that dumb comes with fun. One thing stands true though, Daniel Craig is a bloody great Bond, and quite possibly, if you have an idea of the characterization of the Fleming novels, the only Bond done right to date.

I really liked Casino Royale, but I deplored Quantum of Solace so I don't really kinow how I feel about a new one. Daniel Craig is definitely the best Bond since Connery and he deserves a decent run. Stop messing about and get Martin Campbell back.

@altitude. I see your point but I think Casino Royale acknowledged Bourne more than went out to copy it, the film's pacing was actually rather majestic. It was Quantum that pretty much riffed on Bourne wholesale.

This has got 'first person shooter with 3rd person combat bits that reflect CraigBond's physicality' written all over it.

Actually makes me nostalgic for stealth games.

    Casino Royale was ace.

Quantum of Solace was not. Difficult to follow and constant flash-cutting. Never felt so disappointed by a film since the matrix sequels.

I refuse to buy anything MGM related until they release Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's "The Cabin in the Woods", I refuse to buy anything Activision-made until they change their business plan and usurp Bobby Kotick. I'm starting to wonder if I boycott too easily...

Lets face it with the exception of the obvious, James Bond games are shit.
