PS3 Mass Effect 2 gets free launch DLC

No charge for new weaponry, armour.

PlayStation 3 owners who pick up Mass Effect 2 when it launches later this month will be privy to a batch of free DLC for BioWare's epic action RPG.

According to the game's Facebook page, you'll be able to download the Terminus Armor and M-490 Blackstorm Projector Weapon free of charge from the PSN Store until 23rd February. After that, you'll need to open your wallets.

What does it do? Well, the armour increases running speed, beefs up your shields and augments ammo capacity, while the M-490 creates a devastating miniature black hole.

The extra content was originally offered as an incentive to pre-order the PC or Xbox 360 version of the game through Play.com or US retail chain GameStop.

Publisher EA hasn't announced any plans to make the content available to PC or Xbox 360 gamers via other means.

Eurogamer's game of the year will be available for PlayStation 3 from 21st January.

    What's the 360 getting this year again?
  • Collymilad #2 1 year ago

    @spf_noodle, probably plenty of superior versions of Multiplatform games and a few decent exclusives.

    @Scotty:

    FFS either grow the fuck up or keep out of PS3 threads if you hate the box that damn much.

    I only use that collector beam gun anyway when it comes to heavy weapons.

    Someone should archive the posts that fanboys make then read them out to them again a year later in the hope they'll realise how moronic they are.

    TerraZet, i'm quite looking forward to forza 4 myself.. You don't need kinect to play it you know, but it has kinect features if you can be arsed.
    And the bioshock/x-files type game xcom looks interesting as well.

    Not convinced perfect dark 2 will be much cop judging by rare's recent record but who knows, maybe they'll surprise us all.
    There's more 360 exclusives coming than you think for 2011.

    But i have to admit i prefer the ps3's lineup this year(i didn't for 2010).

    Why the fuck does Scotty269's posts keep bloody appearing no matter how many bloody times I hit the goddamn 'ignore poster' button!
  • man.the.king #12 1 year ago

    "You have to give em something to keep em sweet, aftertall waiting a year to get the definitive tard version cant be easy."

    Anger, resentment, jealousy, a sense of outrage => Idiocy e.g. ALL OF Scotty269's posts, backed up by one of his cohorts Collymilad.

    I can't get away from the fact that they are charging 40 quid for a year old game. The 360 version is 15 quid these days. Honestly that is hard to put out of your mind here....
  • Lemming81 #15 1 year ago

    Too much to hope the free DLC was Mass Effect 1, I guess. :(
  • Triggerhappytel #16 1 year ago

    Scotty269 - your profile claims you're a father of 3 children and that most of your comments are tongue-in-cheek, so why do you consistently come across as a pathetic Sony-hating moron?! Grow up, you fucking idiot.

    Mass Effect 3? But then, I guess we all are! \0/

    Oh for fucks sake...

    IF YOU ORDERED ME2 ON THE 360/PC FROM PLAY.COM OR BOUGHT FROM GAMESTOP IN THE US YOU GOT THIS AS A PRE-ORDER EXCLUSIVE. ALSO, IF YOU EXPLOITED MICROSOFTS COCK UP WHERE ALL THE DAY 1 EXCLUSIVE DLC WAS MADE AVAILABLE FOR FREE ON XBOX.COM YOU ALSO GOT THIS.

    Admittedly if you didn't do any of the above, you can't currently get it and will have to wait for the 100% inevitable GOTY edition on the other two platforms (probably out shortly after the PS3 version) to hoover up all remaining hold-outs before ME3 next winter...
  • Quixz #19 1 year ago

    This is a bit annoying for the rest of us that picked up the game DAY ONE!

    Well, at least Bioware aren't charging for it. Cause they would. Ahem, $2.50 weapon and armor packs, ahem.
  • Antaios #21 1 year ago

    @Quixz: why is that? PS3 owners had to wait a year to be able to play it at all. How's that for annoying?

    I just wish everyone would stop denying other people games just because they're playing on another system than them. It's childish to no end and I just don't get it. Nor do I want to, to be honest.
  • suhawk75 #22 1 year ago

    @Antanois

    It seems to be exclusive to video games as well as far as I can tell. I don't see the AV forums being full of "OMG the Bose Acusticmass 15 is EpicFAIL!!!!!! LOL. Can't believe you bought tard speakers you fag" etc etc

    Having all 7 platforms is the way to go.

  • meanmrmustard #23 1 year ago

    Am I the only one who is happy about this. At least it's a step up from store specific pre-order bonuses, it allows us to shop around for the best deal and it's not content that will never be available to those late to the party.

    Still, offering what effectively is cheat codes/ side missions as DLC does suck major balls. If final fantasy 7 had been released this generation I could see the weapon battles being paid-for DLC.
  • Quixz #24 1 year ago

    @Antaios

    Not only did i buy the game day one i also bought all the DLC.
  • Antaios #25 1 year ago

    So what? You also had it a year in advance. Also, you could have waited for the inevitable GOTY edition for 360, which is probably going to make you complain even harder.

    Really, some people just can't be pleased.
