Prototype 2 all but confirmed

Murder Your Maker video emerges.

Prototype 2 looks like a dead cert for a Spike Video Game Awards reveal after flashes of footage of the original game popped up on viral website Murderyourmaker.com.

It is the latest in a series of teasers for the openworld superhero sequel that began with the launch of the Murderyourmaker website last month.

The plot thickened when the third of three zombie-related VGA images found its way onto the internet.

Prototype, made by Radical Entertainment and released in June 2009, tells the story of Alex Mercer, a man who has super powers - and can consume people. He doesn't know why, but sets about regaining his memory and getting answers after waking up in a morgue. The plot then goes bonkers, but suffice to say the door was left open for a sequel.

Tom gave Prototype 7/10 in Eurogamer's review.

Expect fireworks on 11th December 2010 at the Spike TV Video Game Awards.

a rubbish game i bought on day one... i won't do that if there is a sequel...i know others will do the same.

This game was the worst game I played last year.

It was horrible horrible horrible, i returned it quite soon after, i just couldn't force myself to play such utter sh*te.

How it got 8/10 was utter disbelief to me.

There's something a little bit squalid about Prototype. Got it in a sale as on paper it ticked all the right boxes for me, but the reality wasn't very pleasant. Hope for better things from the sequel.

I'm also on the 'meh' train about this one. I played it through to see how the powers developed and to see the story. The powers aren't very interesting, the story was dire, and I can't remember how it ended. I wonder why I bothered.

Infamous was a lot more fun, as far as post-apocalyptic super-hero games go. I actually felt some level of control over the combat. Prototype felt like a chaotic button-basher where success was sometimes very random and killing the wrong person was too easy.

Cant wait for another. It was a great take on the open world sandbox.

What's with all the prototype hate this morning?

    @links dad

well, that my friend is because it was far from good..

My favourite game of 2009. Never has a game made me feel as epic as this did. I quite sincerely think it's one of the best action inspired games ever created. Bring on the sequel!!!

I'm with you, I don't get the hate for this game as well. Maybe it wasn't as polished and a looker like Infamous but I had a lot of fun with Prototype and I'm glad there will be a sequel.

Thought it was a fun game, if only for crazy roof leaping, helicopter stealing antics. The missiosn wenrnt amazing but yeah I found it more engaging than Infamous thats for sure.

    Lot of hate in here!

It was alright in a Crackdowny kind of way (less polished and fairly flawed but good fun in parts).

I'd say that for once EG hit the nail on the head with 7/10. If the second one improves on the first it could be very interesting.

Are you still playing as Alex Mercer? He certainly did become incredibly unlikable for obvious reasons as the game progressed...

    Prototype had:
    *Annoying bossfights.
*A story that was pretty strange
    *Lack of polish

As such, I wouldn't have looked forward to a sequel, if not for the fact that Prototype also let me:
    *Eat people
    *Punch tanks
    *Run up and down skyscrapers
    *Kick helicopters

So I'm going to buy it :)

Beh. Prototype was a huge dissapointment. Loose fiddly controls, drab look, meh story and just no fun missions. I was done with it after an hour and traded it for inFamous which was way better.

Yay! Loved this game, still playing it at the moment. Not the best game ever, but the free movement in this game is just so incredibly fun I cannot help but just to leap around for a couple of minutes before starting the campaign again. I am currently on my second play through, to complete all the side missions I missed in my first one. If Free Radical can make a game that addresses all the bad things about Prototype and keep all the great things, then Prototype2 could potentially be one fantastic game!

Don't agree with those claiming that Prototype is better than Infamous, but hey tastes differ.

Clunky controls. Somewhat dated graphics. Repetitive in nature. Prototype was all of these things sure.

But the first time I jumped off a building and soared across the city then landed in the midst of a bunch of cars which went flying into the air. Consumed some poor woman. Threw a car at a tank then ran up a 200 story skyscraper and shit kicked down 5 helicopters one after another as the camera swapped to an epic chase cam. Landed on my feet and pounded the ground as large death spikes killed several enemy soldiers. Switched to shield mode and ran down a street full of hundreds of escaping civvies only to knock them aside like bowling pins. Then jumped high into the air to stand atop a building as utter chaos reigned down below.

Well. Dear Sir. I simply forgot all about those negative aspects. Because they never destroyed the game for me whatsoever. Prototype was the one and only game where completely unleashing your inner bastard just made it all the more fun to play. And I for one never, ever tired of it.

I'm glad at least some here share my own vision of what was a truly epic and memorable gaming experience from start to finish. Prototype 2 can only improve on everything that came before, and fuck me if that isn't go to be rather amazingly awesome.

Prototype wasn't the best game ever but it was sure hell more fun then Infamous. I was very disapointed with Infamous which was a very mediocre game. Prototype though was just plain fun. I'd give Infamous a 3/10 and Prototype a 6/10.

Wow someone is grumpy today :) Seriously though, i know we all have different opinions on things, but Infamous a 3/10... no way was it... it was great. And even if you didnt like it, its better than 3/10.

I do need to pick up prototype actually, Does it have trophies? guessing it does (just enquiring which platform to buy it on :)
  • menage #17 1 year ago

    Yes it does have trophy's

    @TheDriffter

"well Infamous was boring, dull, repetitive, had clunky controls, felt like a poor man's version of Spiderman on ps1, the whole game just felt like a tutorial and top that off with nothing to actually do except play through the awful story...I'd rather watch paint dry then playing another second of Infamous"

I'm guessing you don't have a PS3, or at the most have it but only "use it as a blu-ray player" or "use it as a paperweight or doorstop" becuz "teh PZ3 haz no gamez".

I quite enjoyed the original game and I bought it for a tenner about a month ago and took about a week to complete it. Its awesome for all the reasons Haloboy! notes above. Also I liked the story and collecting all the story bits by absorbing marked people. I thought the gameplay, graphics and textures were rather good. The premise reminded me of Parasite Eve.
