Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma in SSFIV

Arcade Edition only for now...

The heavily rumoured addition of Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma to Super Street Fighter IV has been confirmed – for the Japanese-only Arcade Edition.

In a new trailer released today (spotted by Eventhubs) an image showing Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma can be seen around the 2 minute 20 second mark. Check it out below.

It's not clear at this stage whether the dastardly duo are playable characters, but it's a good bet. And let's hope so, Evil Ryu was great in Street Fighter Alpha 3.

Evil Ryu is, as his name suggests, a naughty version of Ryu. He's more powerful and aggressive than his sulky counterpart, and plays similarly to Akuma.

We're not sure what Oni Akuma's about, but he looks like he could be an even more dangerous version of the Akuma we know and love (hate).

They follow Yun and Yang as newcomers to the SSFIV roster. But will they make it to the home console versions?

Last week Yun, Yang and Evil Ryu were spotted in a new batch of Super Street Fighter IV Xbox 360 Achievements, leading some to speculate that they will be added as DLC. Fingers crossed.

    Would that be the PC version of SSFIV that doesn't exist?
  • Ranger101 #3 1 year ago

    Yay... more shotos... :(

    Rumour has it that there's some new achievements that point to the four new characters hitting consoles. Hopefully it'll be within the next few months.

    You really think Capcom would develop new chara's and not try to sell them to as many people as possible?
  • muscleblade #6 1 year ago

    A recently leaked achievement list suggest they will indeed be coming to consoles aswell.

    @menage - you say that like it's a bad thing. SF fans are clamouring for more characters... non-fighting-game fans assume that Capcom are taking advantage of the fan-base, whereas in reality all of these updates are fan-driven. This is demand and supply - and Capcom have to be applauded for being one of the very few companies who have changed their internal policy to build the game fans want or at least respond to their requests.

    @Ranger101 - If this was about Supply and Demand, there would be a PC version of SSFIV

    No, this is about Cash. Lots and lots of cold hard cash. So far the teats have stayed on this cash cow, so its time for another round of milking.

    /buys more msp so he has them ready for the launch of this dlc

    you're half getting the point. it's about cash alright, so if there was enough cash in the demand for a PC version of SSFIV, it would be made. apparently there isn't. however, if you head over to capcoms forums, you see tons of people asking for new characters.

    @ranger

    Oh it wasn't meant bad, just mentioning it cause the artcicle is all like"only in Japanese arcade" while everyone already knows they're probably going to in a combo pack with the SF3 brothers for 12 bucks a month before MVC hits:D

    I do agree on the shoto argument though, do we really need more Ryu or Akuma online? How about an evil Honda or whatever.

    I'm assuming Oni Akuma is basically Shin Akuma? Anyone know why the name change? I haven't been keeping up with my fighting games but this is the first time I've heard of Oni Akuma.
    (EDIT: A little google shows me that Oni Akuma was the internet rumour name, since the achievement uses the word 'Oni'. So it's probably Shin Akuma after all...)

    Ironically, the only point in my SF days I'd consider myself playing nearly enough to have an opinion that matters re: shoto characters, was back in the Alpha 3 days, when S.Akuma was such a cheap bastard to play as, and annoy my mates with, so bring him on!

    The problem with Satsui No Hadou ni Mezameta Ryu (I can indeed match the levels of SF nerdery going on here!) is I always thought he was there to be intentionally overpowered - I honestly couldn't take Evil Ryu seriously. I also don't know when, where or why he fits into the story of the games but that said, I doubt the "story" of Street Fighter is worth paying attention to anyway - like most fighters; two girls, one (tournament) cup, fight.

    After all the effort they put into SSF4, I'd be shocked if they started adding in cheap and overpowered characters now... so the fans may indeed WANT Evil Ryu, and Shin Akuma... but I doubt they'll get then quite the way they want them... and if they do... well. Goodbye online mode... was nice knowing you...

    Yes to Yun and Yang. You can keep your Evil Ryu and Office Of Naval Intelligence Akuma thanks.

  • muscleblade #15 1 year ago

    @Kami

    They might be bosses only. Hope so.
  • Phishfood #16 1 year ago

    Quadruple air fireballs???!?
  • Ranger101 #17 1 year ago

    There are 'shin' akuma and gouken bosses in SSF4 that are unplayable (they are both stronger, virtually no startup times on their moves, and fireballs come out faster at their max strength), so it makes me think that the 'oni' akuma is the super-duper shin akuma they had in CvS2.
