Would you spend hundreds on a figurine?

Zelda, Silent Hill statues cost arm and leg.

How much are you willing to spend on a game-related figurine?

What about £190? That's how much a spooky Silent Hill statue of main bad-guy-thing Pyramid Head is selling for. Yes, the cone-headed, sack-wearing, scarred and bloodied body of Pyramid Head has been painstakingly recreated - so much so that even his back-of-neck flab bulges grotesquely beneath his hat.

You can buy Pyramid Head from Konami Style (via Joystiq).

What about £211 or £224? That's how much First 4 Figures wants for each of its new Zelda: Twilight Princess-inspired Wolf Link and Midina statues. They're 15 inches tall - one quarter scale - and are cast in poly-stone with a hand painted finish. They're beautiful.

The Wolf Link and Midinia statues will be available to buy in Q2 2011 from the First 4 Figures website.

Let us know what other expensive, game-related figurines you've seen below!

I probably wouldn't spend that kind of money on a figurine. Sure, people collect all sorts of things and I guess there is a market for this too but... naah. Will only collect dust in my bookcase.
  • miiiguel #2 1 year ago

Sure, that will go real nice with my £32K Street legal Tron bike.

    Wtf, EG ? ffs...

I have a few game/comic/film related figures on my shelves, but nothing this serious. A friend of mine spents a heck of a lot of cash on the figures released by Hot Toys. Think he paid £150 for an Iron Man last year.
  • kangarootoo #4 1 year ago

Each to their own. Nothing wrong with spending money on art if you've got it. and art being what it is, taste will always vary.

If I had more disposable income, then yes I would spend hundreds on a figurine. At the moment, its the sort of thing I'd only consider as a birthday present to myself

    Snow news day? :o)

I have a few figurines, mainly Halo ones, but also Soul Calibur, Blue Dragon and a few others, but none of them cost* more than 50 Eur.

    * - Cost is an irregular verb isn't it ?
  • coolbritannia #9 1 year ago

Yeah I probably would if I liked it enough. I've got some of the vinyl Halo statues.
  • photoboy #10 1 year ago

I wouldn't spend anything on a figurine. I would probably avoid buying a special edition of a game if it came with a figurine as I would have no use for the thing.
  • GamesConnoisseur #11 1 year ago

I do get collector editions, but only for the extra contents that I could watch, play etc

    But figurines?!!

Its just a doll or at worse an ornament innit?!

I have a friend who owns a foot tall figure of the Skull Kid from Majora's Mask, as a centrepiece of a wider collection. Cost him £50, which is quite reasonable for the quality and size of the thing.

Normally I mock him for owning such things, but even the most stern of Sega fanboy's can appreciate the high quality of the best game in the Zelda series.

Edit: Incidentally, I do own figurines myself, but only in the form of miniatures of all the the Sega consoles. Makes one feel like a giant when holding the controller.

Surely there are more cost effective ways of letting the World know you're a sad freak that will never know the touch of a woman.

    Uh... What's that?
Pyramid Head! He rapes things and has a big knife! Now, let's have sex!
I... Think I'll be going home now.

Wolf Link? What a waste, though the light-up thing on Midna looks quite cool.

If I were to spend money on this, the figures would have to be slightly more iconic... Mario with a cape riding Yoshi, Link swinging his Master Sword (lit up, if that's apparently possible.) Pacman with dots, being chased by ghosts, Sonic mid-jump going for a ring or something. Link not looking like Link and the baddie from Silent Hill aren't quite up there for me.

I could use some more shots of the Link/Midna statue though, I don't think enough ground has been covered there.

I'd spend a couple of hundred quid on a figurine, yes. Not any of the ones mentioned in this article, mind.

If it was Amaterasu, or a brilliantly detailed wanzer from Front Mission, then I'd start to get tempted.
  • sonicyoda #16 1 year ago

    @OneClassyBloke

I've got those miniature SEGA consoles as well! They're crazy little things. Really high detail on such tiny models.
  • ZizouFC #17 1 year ago

I actually didn't realise that (judging by these comments) quite a lot of gamers think collecting figurines is on a whole other level of nerdiness - whereas I thought they went hand in hand.

Yes, Yes I would pay hundreds of pounds for a figurine!

In fact, I have!!! around the region of £500 for a figure of KOS-MOS from Xenosaga and Bayonetta from... Bayonetta. That's each by the way!
And I need to paint them too...

Christ. For 500 quid you'd think they'd paint it for you.
  • kangarootoo #21 1 year ago

    @miiguel

    Indeed.

"Its just a doll or at worse an ornament innit?!"

Ummm, I don't know how old you are, but surely you have those two the wrong way round?...
  • ChthonicEcho #22 1 year ago

It just so happens that I have three arms and one leg saved up in my bank account!
  • coolbritannia #23 1 year ago

I'm collecting the Masterpiece Transformers too, got them all except Starscream and Megatron. Grimlock is the best.
  • CaptainKid #24 1 year ago

"How much are you willing to spend on a game-related figurine?"

    €0.00
  • GundamJehutyKai #25 1 year ago

@Ecureuil: Painting them is half the fun! for me at least.

But there was a painted version of KOS-MOS on sale, wielding a gigantic dragons tooth blade which was as tall as the figure itself.

    That was around £200 more.
  • azazel_fallenangel #26 1 year ago

I have the Predator head dvd boxset, the new Alien Quadrilogy Blu-Ray box set(in light up egg form), and the Hunter edition of AvP sat proudly together. well, I say proudly, the main source of entertainment from them(other than actually watching/playing them) is having the missus continously moan she doesn't want geeky stuff on display quite so much.
  • MiniAmin #27 1 year ago

Not for me personally, but I don't consider it particularly inordinate, especially when considered as an ornament in one's living room. It isn't too dissimilar to someone spending hundreds of pounds on a China plate, or one of those weird porcelain doll my nan likes. Each to their own.
  • coolbritannia #28 1 year ago

Miniamin, that's a good way of looking at it.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #29 1 year ago

Quite expensive but I have to admit that the Zelda statue looks really well done.

By the way, it's Midna, not Midina.
  • FortysixterUK #30 1 year ago

I'll give ya 20 quid for 'em.
    That's my final offer.
  • Greggywocky... #31 1 year ago

God, I would pay £190 not to have that monstrosity in my house.

So I guess that means I owe someone £190...
  • viper_h #32 1 year ago

Who the hell is "Midinia"? I thought this was a video games website...
  • Rufus #33 1 year ago

Forget figurines, I've got a stick of SEGA LIPBALM! As a rule, I have to say "SE-GA!" as I'm applying it to my chapped face.

  • Phishfood #34 1 year ago

I'd like to see a figure of Midna in her princess form
  • Canyarion #35 1 year ago

Like Der_tolle_Emil said, it's Midna and not Midina.

The Zelda one looks pretty cool.
  • Torkin #36 1 year ago

I love Silent Hill but I see that Pyramid Head figurine and don't like it. And I'm not a Zelda fan at all.

But... Last week i spent 150€ on a KOS-MOS figurine. And I have one of Mitsuru Kirijo from Persona 3. 70€, it's pretty.

And finally I paid around 120€ for Masterpiece Starscream. The best of the three undoubtedly.

That's all I have, I don't have tons of figures. Maybe a bit expensive, but I only buy high quality ones, and only if I really like them.

I spent about €100 on the F4F Varia Suit Samus statue. Best. Purchase. Ever. I highly recommend F4F to all statue enthusiast and collectors. The detail and quality are just amazing.
