Gran Turismo 5 updates detailed

Another one scheduled for early this month.

Polyphony boss Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed in detail his plan to update Gran Turismo 5 with improvements, beginning with an update scheduled for early this month.

Writing on his Twitter account (translated by Andriasang) Yamauchi revealed Polyphony is looking into a raft of features that may end up being added to the game.

For example, Polyphony is looking into adding a YouTube video upload feature, which was in the game at one point before being dropped because of a lack of memory.

A no HUD option looks likely, too - Yamauchi would like to add this in the future. A new lounge function will be added over time, as will a credits and experience system for online play.

Don't expect an option to just drive around town, however – the team wanted to include this but couldn't.

Oh, and wondering why face tracking is only available in arcade mode? It's those pesky memory restrictions again.

Sony's PS3 exclusive racing sim, launched last week, is the UK's number one game. Oli awarded the gargantuan beast 9/10 in Eurogamer's Gran Turismo 5 review.

I'll be more than happy if they keep these incremental updates coming.

Damn the PS3's restrictive memory though. Grrrrrrrrrr

Keep on patching :), and I hope some form a matchmaking will make it into the online component.

Edit: credits are welcome for online play.

love the game.. i have loads of games i want to play but for the last 2 weeks i have been playing GT5 only.

damn.. sly collection,Pop HD collection, enslaved,Nier,Pac Man ain't getting any love at all.... atm.
  • ToAks #5 1 year ago

@Spazmo , did you install the whole 8gb of the game? or just partially?

if so.. does it help if you disconnect from online?

the first 2 days was hell on earth when it came to loading as the servers was overloaded...it helped to disconnect from PSN.. but now?...it takes about 6-10 seconds to load a track.

    orginal ps3 40gb and 80gb hdd owners:
I have a faster HDD now.. the 80gb hdd that was orginally in my ps3 was so damn slow it made no sense at all (nistalling a 1gb psn game took like 20 minutes sometimes).

"wondering why face tracking is only available in arcade mode?"

I was wondering why it wasn't working at all, this explains why

Let this be a lesson to all developers and publishers: this is what happens when you rush a game through the development and release process. Perhaps next time they should release an extended demo version in the middle of development to ensure that such a laughably buggy launch doesn't occur. They could call it "Prologue" or something.

GT5 will improve over time....unfortunately GT5 review scores wont improve over time lol
  • Malek86 #9 1 year ago

Why would the career require more memory than the arcade mode?
  • Dizzy #10 1 year ago

Is this the patch that adds the fun? :)
  • NotSoSlim #11 1 year ago

Just needs mechanical damage for me now, got cosmetic damage
  • Steroyd #12 1 year ago

If they keep updating the game at this rate, all reviews are going to be obsolete by January.

Can someone help me because set-up a private lobby lastnight and could not find a way to invite my friends to the lobby. but other then that this is a great game just got to level 20 lastnight :o). if anyone wonts a race my psn is SL1CKSTER.

I'm glad they are working on improving the game - a few tweaks here and there goes a long way, but Yamauchi is well know for promising features and never deliver.
  • ron_aldo #15 1 year ago

How about a feature which limits entry to an event by car performance like Forza. 8 times out of 10 I'm hopelessly too fast for the opposition. (I'm talking straight-line speed here not my ability)

I'm happy if they keep on patching and keep making the game better and better.

Frankly, it's amazing as it is. This is my first GT game (except GT5:p) and i LOVE it
  • kendoji #17 1 year ago

I love the game so far. And say what you will about the faults of the game (they are there), but I'm very impressed with the sincerity of their intentions to continue improving the game. If we really do see new features and improvements coming in every month I'll be very pleased.

    I'm looking for no-hud option!!
  • DAN.E.B #19 1 year ago

If only they had a bit more development time!
  • uncharted86 #20 1 year ago

@slickster I'm not sure as I haven't tried online yet but I don't think you can invite them. I have read somewhere that they have to join your lobby by using the id of your lobby (20 digits)

I'm sorry but after 5 years this shouldn't be necessary, what on Earth have Polyphony been doing apart from trying to shoehorn 800 abysmally rendered cars into the game? GT used to be the daddy but now it's the granddaddy, time to retire, you're making a fool of yourself!
  • JoeGBallad #22 1 year ago

Yep, it's the grandad. A big sexy grandad.
  • stegabba #23 1 year ago

who cares about review scores really? if its over hyped thenthe site/reviewer probably being payed i.e COD gt5 is my fave racing game ever its has alot more things to keep me interested unlike forza which was a bore fest imo.

a review it just somebodys opinion so why should you even read it and go omg this game sucks because someone who probably loves pikmin or wii sports or some other shit says so? lol and to those people who dont like it you kno what to do right? fucking sell it

A dozen more patches and GT5 might actually be less dated and clunky and more enjoyable and fun to play. I have my fingers crossed.
  • Zebula77 #25 1 year ago

I'm with everybody wanting shorter loading times. That's the big one for me at the mo.

Other stuff, like the shadows - I don't really expect them to be remedied, but honestly I care less and less about them. Game is absolutely fantastic. Highly addictive and I can't wait to get my hands on one of the supercars.

Visible damage...I've read it gets unlocked as you progress? Whatever, the most fun thing about GT5 is taking a newly supertuned car and seeing how fast you can race around the entirety of Nurburgring. :)

The one addition that would massively improve the (already excellent) game for me - and I can't believe this hasn't been brought up before - is a 'Restart race' button after you have finished and are looking at the results. If you cross the finish line in 2nd and want to try again for 1st, you have to quit the whole event, re-enter it and load the track again. Why??!!! Where is the 'race again' button?

This is such a basic UI fuckup that I can't believe it slipped through without somebody saying "you know, Kazunori, this bit here is a MASSIVE PAIN IN THE ARSE."
  • Ryze #27 1 year ago

    Not enough RAM, eh?

How surprising. It was oh so obvious when the SPEC was announced - like 6 years ago!
  • TaoJay #28 1 year ago

I've had GT5 for a few days now and am really getting into it, will be interesting to see it evolve further....
  • Ninou #29 1 year ago

@barkertron +1 for the restart thing - very frustrating.

Also, what about the ability to fast forward and rewind replays? I love playing with the photo modes but it's a real pain if you go past the moment where you wanted to take your photo...
  • Master_Ted #30 1 year ago

can we has more premium cars, though?
  • cyber_nicco #31 1 year ago

I am enjoying this, but they have so many things to fix. More when I'm not typing on mobile phone.
