EU gets Deus Ex: HR Augmented Edition

Pre-order bonuses revealed.

Square Enix has announced what European gamers will get if they pre-order science fiction RPG Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Those who pre-order the standard edition will receive the Explosive Mission Pack.

It includes a new mission with a "special" cameo appearance from one of the original Deus Ex characters, plus the Automatic Unlocking Device, the M-28 Utility Remote-Detonated Explosive Device (UR-DED) and the Linebacker G-87 multiple shot grenade launcher.

Meanwhile, the "strictly limited" Augmented Edition – confirmed for the US last night – will also head to Europe.

It includes all the Explosive Mission Pack gubbins and more. You'll get 10,000 extra credits to spend on weapons or upgrades, a Huntsman Silverback Double-Barrel Shotgun and the SERSR Longsword Whisperhead silenced sniper rifle.

You'll also find in the box an exclusive bonus DVD featuring a 44 minute making of special, the game soundtrack, a motion-comic (adapted from DC's official series), an animated storyboard and a 40 page art book.

The Augmented Edition will cost $69.99 (or $59.99 on PC) in the US. Square Enix failed to mention European pricing. We're checking now.

I don't really like special editions of games that just give you cheats or powerups in game. They cost the dev nothing, and once you've played the game for a while these extras get superceded anyway. Of all the things they could include in a special edition, this is the weakest option imo.

I'm not sure what to make of all the bonus credits and weapons. Are they going to make the game too easy or throw off balance? In which case they are useless as a bonus because I won't be using them or are they simply such a small advantage that they don't matter anyway?

Anyway, the rest of the bundle sounds pretty nice. Hopefully the pre order bonus will also apply to other European countries and not just the UK.

I'd guess that the extra credits probably mean most will blow them on weaker augmentations at the start that help a bit, but are rapidly superceded by better ones available for all later on.

Think I'll just get the bog-standard one.

Edit: Although that silenced sniper rifle does sound nice ;-)

Can you guys please find out if the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution will have Steamworks?

As it's published by Square Enix, and many of their latest PC titles have featured Steamworks (Kane & Lynch 2, Just Cause 2, Supreme Commander 2, etc.), it seems like a possibility.

Augmented Edition it is. Will pre-order when the time comes of course.

Assuming that the 360 US edition is going to be region locked, unless anyone knows otherwise?
  • TruWari3r #11 1 year ago

    @harmonica

Kane & Lynch 2 and Final Fantasy 13 were region free. It's not a given that Deus Ex HR will be region free for the 360 but I like the odds.

Before anyone complains about it, the Automatic Unlocking Device is a consumable. So once it's used it's gone for good.

Came to the comments expecting flaming about "SHOULDNT PAY FOR EXTRAS" which while a valid point bores the shit out of me at this point :p

Der tolle emil has a great point, implies that they don't really give as much thought to the game as you'd think! "Let just chuck them a nuke gun if they pay us a fiver", isn't it tantamount to cheating?
