Who will be Sony's next president?

Gargantuan consumer electronics company Sony is looking for a new president, according to reports, and PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai could be set for the job.

Sony wants to shake things up a bit and alleviate the workload of Welsh-born CEO Sir Howard Stringer, according to Bloomberg (thanks, Kotaku).

Sony reportedly hopes installing fresh blood as Stringer's deputy will lighten his load and give whoever gets the job the chance to show what they're made of.

Bloomberg named two possible candidates, our very own Kazuo Hirai and Sony telly and camera boss Hiroshi Yoshioka.

Hirai's emergence as a major player in the videogame industry is well documented.

After helping brand PlayStation make its mark in the US, he enjoyed even greater success with the PlayStation 2. Two weeks after the PlayStation 3 launched in 2006, Hirai replaced the father of PlayStation, Ken Kutaragi, as president of Sony Computer Entertainment. A year later he took full control of the group, becoming chairman and group CEO of SCEI.

Hirai is perhaps best known by gamers for his infamous "Riiiiiiiiiiidge Raaaaaaaaceeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr!" comment while demonstrating the game running on a PlayStation Portable during Sony's E3 2006 press conference.

He was also reported as telling press, "The next generation doesn't start until we say it does."
