Report: XBLA revenues continue to soar

DR2: Case Zero, Sonic 4 lead the way.

Microsoft's Xbox Live service has enjoyed another record breaking month, according to a study carried out by market research firm Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment (FADE).

CVG report that it took $11.2 million in sales last month, up 91 per cent from last October. Year-to-date revenues have now broken the $100 million mark.

The top 10 bestsellers for October worked out like this:

  1. Dead Rising 2: Case Zero (Capcom) - 104,000 Units (400 MS Points)
  2. Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 (Sega) - 98,000 Units (1200 MS Points)
  3. Super Meat Boy (Team Meat) - 70,000 Units (800 MS Points)
  4. Comic Jumper (Twisted Pixel) - 55,000 Units (1200 MS Points)
  5. Plants vs. Zombies (PopCap) - 45,000 Units (1200 MS Points)
  6. Limbo (Playdead) - 33,000 Units (1200 MS Points)
  7. Costume Quest (Double Fine) - 31,000 Units (1200 MS Points)
  8. Castle Crashers (The Behemoth) - 28,000 Units (1200 MS Points)
  9. Trials HD (RedLynx) - 26,000 Units (1200 MS Points)
  10. Dead Space Ignition (Sumo Digital) - 26,000 Units (400 MS Points)

The icing on a great 12 months for Xbox Live Arcade then. The service enjoyed its best ever month in July, apparently netting $17.5 million, and the year has seen one great digital release after another, culminating in the phenomenal Pac-Man Championship Edition DX last week.

    No Lara Croft is sad when an old title like Castle Crashers is still there, and Dead Space Ignition is garbage.
  • GamesConnoisseur #5 2 years ago

    Dead Space Ignition had an interesting idea for attempting a small game in form of interactive story, as gamebook of old, but here its a very piss poor example.

    Too little involvement from the gamer, and only three mini games and no real choices over the direction of the story, except for a minor branchings.

    Total rubbish and should have come up with far better design, completely forgotten the basic rule of game... need to havea gameplay!

    Live is the most important thing that happened this gen. Not only with its quality games via DLC but as a whole.

    And yet capcom STILL haven't announced anything about Dead Rising: Case West!

    "I notice that there does seem to be an upper limit to sales, though. No matter how cheap the download is, you're only going to sell 100,000. I can see why they introduced the 1200 point price point."

    @richardtock

    That's nonsense....you do realize that these are monthly sales not total sales, right?
    The majority of these games have sold much much more than 100,000.

    Xbla is the best thing this generation IMHO, I hardly buy boxed games any more.

    @djflex52

    That's true, wasn't there an article a while ago about Trials HD selling over a million?

    not bad for a monopoly, be interesting to see how sales would be affected if microsoft allowed others to distribute games via xbox live

    I can't believe Sonic 4 sold so well.

    800 points is the sweet spot. Developers could easily sell an extra 50% copies by lowering prices from the high 1200 to the medium 800 from day 1.

    1200 points is too much to risk a dud. 800 points is a medium size investment - you can buy 3 800 games for the price of two more expensive & unproven 1200 point games, so three developers would gain from sales.

    I realize is a lame philosophy but is how things work in the real world

    I hate to point it out, but selling 50% more copies at 800 points, gives you the exact same dollar value as selling them at 1200 points...why do that when you can cut the price to 800 in deals later and pick up the stragglers. Although I have to agree, I do think twice at 1200 point games...I don't buy many of them...sonic ?? the demo was horribl...but I would have got it for 800 points just to see what the fuss was about, but at 1200 no way jose.

    wasnt this month the one where you could get 800 points for free if you spent 2400? that deal certainly pushed my purchasing up...

    We don't need retail! The core is online, let retail be for the Wii...let's see day and date launches of all titles on live.
