Infected VGAs tease sets tongues wagging

Left 4 Dead set for PlayStation 3?

An image detected in an advert for the Video Game Awards has sparked speculation of a Left 4 Dead-related reveal.

The image, which you can see below, contains the message: "Infected? Report it!" In the bottom right hand corner sits "1 of 3" (as noticed by Joystiq).

Clearly, the game it refers to is zombie-related, but what is it?

Reports suggest it's anything from a PlayStation 3 port of Left 4 Dead and/or Left 4 Dead 2, to a Left 4 Dead 3 reveal.

At E3 2010 in June Left 4 Dead developer Valve announced Portal 2 would arrive on PS3 as well as PC and Xbox 360 when it's released next year.

"I've been pretty outspoken in my comments about next gen consoles," boss man Gabe Newell joked during Sony's E3 conference, "so I'd like to thank Sony for their gracious hospitality and not repeatedly punching me in the face."

But, given every game these days has zombies, "Infected" could releate to anything.

Resident Evil VI exclusive for PS3?
  • bad09 #2 2 years ago

If it's L4D PS3 owners are in for a right treat. Welcome to the crack peeps.
  • 52pickup #3 2 years ago

    "1 of 3" could refer to Left4Dead [1] on PS[3]

or it could mean it's teaser 1 of 3 for this game,or maybe it's a new game from a trilogy (which L4D with a third installment would just happens to be).

Yessss I think you said it best with the last line there. There are thousands of zombie games out right now and until I see some definitive proof either that this came from Valve or is related to L4D's apocalypse I will take this as nothing but guesswork and/or hope. It's possible of course.

I'd rather believe though that it's either a reveal of a proper zombie-only Resident Evil 6, the superb-looking Dead Island from the guys who did Call of Juarez, or the sequel to a superb Half-Life mod They Hunger: Lost Souls.
  • Noble6 #6 2 years ago

I have an odd feeling its L4D3.
  • des #7 2 years ago

Valve is awfully fast with L4D sequels...hmm
  • Dolly #8 2 years ago

I don't mind buying another Left 4 Dead game, as long as the quality is as good as the second one was. All that bitching about it being released too soon, but in the end the game was frakkin awesome.

Could even be the Dead Rising DLC which sees the return of Frank West, a reporter, which would fit in with the "Report It" line... although if it is for the DLC, Capcom must be really pissed about all the websites speculating it's to do with L4D! :)

Only fair everyone gets to play this masterpiece.

L4D3 exclusive on the ps3, just to see the burninginging that'd happen.

Never got l4d2 since it was reportedly so hard, screw that - i like finishing games thanks.
  • Vortex808 #13 2 years ago

L4D3 please. Need more zombie carnage.
  • SteveHolt #14 2 years ago

Since Valve says they want to work on the ps3, I can't see how/why L4D3 would be "exclusively" on PC/X360.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it always seemed to me that it was an exclusive simply because Valve couldn't / didn't want to spend the extra money necessary for a PS3 port (just like Metro 2033, Divinity, Risen, Sherlock holmes, Sup Com and another dozen PC centric games that haven't been ported to the ps3).

  • CARL05 #15 2 years ago

Doesn't look like valve's art style to me..
  • Kenshin001 #16 2 years ago

Weird. In a tweet response about the PS3 exclusive game Geoff Keighley wrote @Almir_K Great questions. Look closer. On that VGA site it says Look Closer. Connected?
  • Hermiod #17 2 years ago

I guess that with Portal 2 coming to the PS3 there's a proper, Valve-developed PS3 version of the Source engine available rather than the god awful outsourced one they used for The Orange Box.

I'm still hoping for Left 4 Dead 3 though.

Oh, and I must make the obligatory "Where's Episode 3 ?" comment.
  • Hermiod #18 2 years ago

@edhe - L4D2 is a little bit tougher in some places on the same difficulty level than the first one but not a huge amount.

It does force you to come up with new tactics as the new Special Infected were designed to defeat some of the more common ones Valve saw players using.

Overall, however, it's a great game in its own right and well worth playing.

Can anyone make out the black text in the top left corner? 'For the'....?
  • sink257 #20 2 years ago

How can someone not own L4D1 and 2 already? They were on sale on steam for less than $10 a few weeks ago!

It could be Dead Rising 3 with Frank West as the main character.

It'll be L4D3 and it will be multiplatform. Hopefully it will be better than L4D2, which I'm still not sure is better than L4D1 (despite some nice gameplay tweaks).
  • metalmike25 #24 2 years ago

I think it might be a teaser for Scotty269 : Nazi Hunter. A game featuring Hitler's forces being single handedly defeated by a virgin and his trusty Xbox controller. Game of the year for sure
  • TheTingler #25 2 years ago

@Dolly: While I bought L4D2 and love it, I seem to be utterly in the minority because everyone I know played it once or twice and then got bored with it. These were all people who played L4D1 solidly for a year. Everyone just seemed to get burnt out. Too much of a good thing, too soon.

@edhe: Finish it? You're not playing it single-player are you? It's a multiplayer game primarily. Either way, don't worry, there are four difficulty modes. Stay off the top two and play with good players and you will be fine.

While I'd be totally cool for it to be a PS3 L4D announcement (preferably a box-set of both games with all the DLC), everyone who wants it really should have it already on PC. The free DLC, ultra-cheap regular Steam discounts, weekly mutations and constant decent user campaigns really make it worthwhile, even to people who don't usually play on PC.

Please not Left 4 Dead 3. Don't milk the franchise dry already, especially a franchise where a year after the games release the servers for the 360 version are still incredibly ropey.

If Valve do make Left 4 Dead on PS3, I hope they include the ability to install user generated maps like UT3.
  • mkreku #29 2 years ago

I'm just amazed that someone else than me has heard of Dead Island (by Techland, although it is looking like vapourware right now). Well done, TheTingler!

Not only does it say 1 of 3 in the bottom right it also says "Eurogamer"... hmmm what is this "Eurogamer" and what do they have to do with this?

It doesn't really have a Valve or L4D feel for me, they're hardly the first one to have enemies that are "infected" and the 1 of 3 is probably just the first of three teasers. I suspect that there's a marketing department in some company that's rather disappointed that they've somehow started advertising a non-existent Valve product.
  • Lusterpurge #32 2 years ago

I've played a bit of Left 4 Dead (1 and 2), and this doesn't match the art style for the games. I'm not sure what it is, but if it's L4D3, it's going to be massively different than the first 2.
  • MegaCadet #33 2 years ago

I hope it's L4D3. I could care less if it's coming to PS3 or not.

Maybe to make everyone happy they could just port L4D3 to the PS3.
  • Raiden777 #34 2 years ago

Its a 99% chance for L4D3, if you look at the top it says for the and the symbols there, either i'm insane (or wanting a L4D3 so god damn bad) or its got pictures of the specials (one looks like a boomer :D)
  • ShadziiWolf #35 1 year ago

"The image, which you can see below, contains the message: "Infected? Report it!" In the bottom right hand corner sits "1 of 3" (as noticed by Joystiq)."

One of three would be one of three of the original special infected (smoker, hunter, boomer). Since they're the most favored, as compared to L4D2's new special infected, they're most likely mentioning them. I honestly doubt there's going to be a L4D3, they were pushing the franchise a little bit when they came out with L4D2 so soon, but a third game might push it too far.

Has nobody else noticed the "FOR THE NHS" in the top left corner?

"The National Health Service (NHS) is the shared name of three of the four publicly funded healthcare systems in the United Kingdom. " -Wikipedia

The 1 of 3 may further indicate that it's something to do with this as there are 3 public healthcare systems with the name NHS, as you can see above.

If anything, I think this means it's not anything to do with L4D which is based in the US.

    Just a thought...
