Fallout: New Vegas' Dead Money detailed

Who are the Ghost People?

Fallout: New Vegas creator Obsidian has revealed the first details of Xbox 360-exclusive add-on Dead Money.

It's set in the Sierra Madre, a casino that froze in time following the nuclear war that precedes the Fallout videogames, senior designer Chris Avellone revealed in the Bethesda Newsletter.

"The Sierra Madre faded from the history books, only occasionally being seen in posters across the wastes, until it took on mythic ghost story status... a supposed 'City of Gold' in the Mojave Wasteland where all the treasures of the Old World were rumoured to be held," Avellone said.

"It was kept alive as a late-night saloon story by prospectors who'd claimed to have found maps leading there... and were willing to part with the 'map' for a few caps. Or a drink. Or a warm place to sleep."

Father Elijah of the Brotherhood of Steel set off to unearth its secrets, and the Courier follows in his footsteps after detecting a radio broadcast advertising the Sierra Madre gala grand opening.

There the Courier will meet a mysterious group called the Ghost People. There's a solitary screenshot of the mazmat suit-wearing creeps below.

Once downloaded, the add-on will pop up as a radio broadcast after a save file is loaded from any point in the game prior to the endgame sequence.

Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas launched last month. Dan Whitehead awarded the post-apocalyptic open world role-player a stonking 9/10.

    Sounds interesting... Let's hope obsidian do as good a job as Bethesda in the dlc content.

    I want. Lots. Lots. On PC :/
  • TonyCocaCola #3 2 years ago

    Well they did a better job with the main game
  • Shikasama #4 2 years ago

    I was hoping the first piece of DLC would be a post game type of thing

    I'm not sure we'll see any post-endgame stuff. It makes less sense continuing after the end of one of New Vegas's several, very different endings than Fallout 3's single one.

    Fix the old content we've already paid for before promoting new revenue streams otherwise it just comes accross as a kick in the teeth. Cheers Obsidian.

    Try fixing the game first before you start announcing the DLC. The game still has a huge amount of bugs, glitches, freezing as well as numerous lengthy loading times.
  • mkreku #8 2 years ago

    I was hoping the first DLC would be Denver, the dog infested city they're talking about in Fallout: New Vegas.

    I wish people would stop moaning about the game being broken, In the 70 odd hours I've spent playing it to get 2 of the 4 endings, I've only had 2 lock ups, nothing game breaking at all considering it autosaves all the time. Considering AC:B also did this to me last night while waiting for a Live game it's not Fallout exclusive.

    I haven't bought this yet, contemplating holding out for the inevitable GOTY edition. You guys reckon it will take long?
  • kangarootoo #11 2 years ago

    Until they patch the main game, my copy is staying on the shelf.

    @Whitster

    Perhaps you aren't representative?
  • TonyCocaCola #12 2 years ago

    This is the xbox exclusive dlc right? I doubt it will have anything major in it as they'll probably save all that stuff for the multi platform releases later on.
  • kwolf666 #13 2 years ago

    @Whitster
    What platform do you play on?
    I think it's obvious that FO3 and FO:NV are more broken on PS3 than on either PC or XBOX, at least I experienced constant microstuttering in FO3 which is probably due to bad memory management. Technically its playable, but it's so annoying that it borders on gamebreaking. And no, I will not buy a new platform for Fallout NV. If they sell this thing full price you can expect it to run smoothly. FU** you Obsidian

    I really Love Fallout 3 and all of it DLCs, but i´m pretty sure that New Vegas will be in my Shelf when Bethesda publishes a GOTY edition with all the extra content.

    The wait wiil be hard, of course.

    All these people complaining about the bugs. Don't tell you couldn't have guessed beforehand, F3 is riddled with it and this is freaking Obsidian were talking about. Knowing what your getting into may be a hassle for regular customers, but over here in the forum section people should freaking know better.

    So buying this and then leaving it unpacked on your shelf could have saved you money by just buying it when the actual patch is released imo.
  • neilka #16 2 years ago

    Might be worth mentioning the release date: December 21st.
  • dsmx #17 2 years ago

    How about fixing the game before releasing content that could break the game even more?
  • SYS64738 #18 2 years ago

    Patch up or shut up.
  • Rack #19 2 years ago

    For all the people clamouring for a patch I should say that artists, designers and sound engineers are notoriously bad at fixing bugs. That's why Obsidian will be working on DLC and patching at the same time. If anything this is a good sign we'll be getting post game support.
  • dbranchevans #20 2 years ago

    Would love to patch but since there's absolutely bloody nothing that fixes the fact that I can't finished the game I'm not too impressed at the moment. Stuck on the final two story missions and it crashes whenever I go near either of the locations. Seriously disappointed by the quality of the release
  • Lord_BeeJee #21 2 years ago

    What version are those playing that have probs? I've been playing the pc version since release and can't think of any probs I had except for one mission that didnt trigger immediately.
    And please obsidian, make lots of dlc for the pc too! :)
  • uknortherner2000 #22 2 years ago

    I was playing the PC version until I got fed up with the stuttering and crashes that corrupted my saves. I have yet to make it past three hours, and now that I've deleted the game from my hard drive, I probably never will.

    £30 down the drain. £30 better spent on games on gog.com from a better time when developers and publishers actually gave a fuck about the user experience.

    @Kwolf666

    Playing on 360 with it installed, if that helps anyone.
  • paulf #24 2 years ago

    edge gave it a 6 due to the bugs, I like others it seems will wait for the goty edition and hopefully they will have sorted all the bugs out
  • menage #25 2 years ago

    Edge gave F3 a 7 as well. even with the bugs I wouldn't want to have missed that hugely enteraining pice of software.

    Xbox exclusive. Why. Do they seriously earn more money from Microsoft than they could earn selling it for three different platforms?
