Buy boxed games from inside PS Home

GAME opens virtual shop with real home delivery.

UPDATE: Sony's just got in touch to say the stores have not been opened yet and will not be available until after the regular Thursday weekly update maintenance that will commence at 8am GMT tomorrow.

ORIGINAL STORY: GAME will open a shop in the PlayStation 3's virtual world, Home.

Two new areas of Moonbase have become available: Moonbase Shop and the GAME V store.

From terminals in the Moonbase, you can view and order boxed PS3 and PSP games for home delivery. New releases and back catalogue games are all available for purchase.

The GAME V store, accessed via a "jump hole" portal within Moonbase, sells branded merchandise and virtual items for Home avatars and personal spaces. We're promised new items every month.

Last week PlayStation Home enjoyed something of a transformation with patch 1.4. It added a raft of new features, including multiplayer LittleBigPlanet paintball.

    Are the staff still usless?
  • patch #2 2 years ago

Surely that's the benefit, you don't have to deal with the staff :p

    First of many Home shops?

Can you virtually trade your games in and get fucking peanuts for them???
  • King_Edward #4 2 years ago

That is both useless and awesome.
  • Golgo #5 2 years ago

If it's not full of obnoxious chavs buying 18-rated games for their children it just won't feel the same.
  • MdaG #6 2 years ago

I love the idea of shopping in a virtual shop! :-)
  • weejok #7 2 years ago

Will they still try to sell you un-needed extended warranties by scaring you with lies about how easily your purchase will break?? (Like they did with me when I purchased Kinect!)

Is there a pube insertion machine?
  • IonOnion #10 2 years ago

    @weejok

In their defense, it is a microsoft product.
  • Katanax #11 2 years ago

    Smart move.

Bring the community who enjoy games into an environment where they can communicate ideas and opinions amongst each other, launch titles direct, and now make impulse and thought out purchase decisions from the one location.

I'm a dev working on a 100% corporate virtual world for businesses and commercial users/organisations, so this stuff is right up my street.
  • Tonne #12 2 years ago

wait so i thought they invented internetshop to eleminate the retard in the stores, and now they want 2 use virtual retards.
thats one step foward and two steps back.
  • Velios #13 2 years ago

Does is stink of stale BO when you walk through the door, and you almost get involved in a fight with an arrogant member of staff who swears blind that FFXIV isn't out yet on any format even though the shop over the road has it in their fucking window??!!
  • weejok #14 2 years ago

@IonOnion Told me the tilt motor in Kinect would "break if I so much as looked at it!" , those were there exact words and they said it was a widespread problem which is why they advised everyone to get a warranty??? Wonder if Microsoft know that's how they are selling the product?

I remember watching a news piece on TV circa 1995 about virtual supermarket shopping and they had a doom-like animation of you pushing a virtual trolley around the virtual aisles...

Has this concept just become a (virtual)reality?

The 9 year old me from 1995 would be amazed right now...

It needs a virtual Game shop assistant to insist embarrassingly loudly that 'Actually yes, Monster Hunter Tri IS already out on Xbox 360 in Japan' while you try and explain that it's actually Monster Hunter Frontier and that Tri is still 100% a Wii exclusive.

    Okay that's pretty cool

"Hi, I'd like to buy a PC game"

"Sorry sir, we don't sell PC games in this store"

"Wow! Just like the real thing!"
  • Skurmedel #21 2 years ago

I guess the PC shelves will be even slimmer in this one?

Edit: Argh, FogHeart was quicker! God darn and other wholesome curses.

It would've been better Sony could go a bit web app-style with the XMB...

Under TV, you could iPlayer, 4oD, etc.
    Under Videos Mubi, Love Film...
Under Music, you could have Vidzone, AmazonMP3, and transfer manage purchases
And then under a new Shopping option allow retailers to add their own services.

It's a shame it will take 20 mins to get into the GAME section of Home, to make a purchase on only PS3/PSP games.

Wishful thinking I know, but come on Sony, you could really clean up by offering a shed load of services on the PS3!

something useful at home for once ?
  • Benno #25 2 years ago

This is the first thing out of home I am actually quite interested in.

Wonder if you can buy Xbox 360 games from within PSHome? heh
  • Phily50 #26 2 years ago

First use of Home that I am actually interested in.
  • man.the.king #27 2 years ago

Really cool idea - hope they do the same here in the US.

On the other hand, I buy most of my games from amazon.com, so not too useful for me, unless the price+shipping costs are lower.

weejok - don't blame the staff, we have to say that stuff. We don't sell enough extended warranties? We're missing a target and we're risking our jobs. Blame the bosses who say 'we've sold outbid Kinect for launch day' when we have loads out back for free sale when they come in, and the same for Black Ops - 'it'll sell out, deposits only!' when we've got hundreds available. We're on minimum wage and we get no commission. We do this or we get fired and replaced by the hundreds who want our jobs.
  • ShiroBen #29 2 years ago

Gosh, an additional layer of faff. Just what Home needed.
  • DAN.E.B #30 2 years ago

I went in game today to find out how much they would give on trade in for black ops £22.50p
With this online service id miss the chance to tell them to fuck right off and that im going to HMV instead (who offered me £35)
  • aphexstwin #31 2 years ago

spence - you get fired for that? i hope tribunals are through the roof at game. know your employment rights young sir! http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/i...

now back to game bashing. do i get a staff member come up to me and say that my choice performs better on the 360?

and no commission? so why am i hassled the minute i step in the shoppe?
  • jellyBelly #32 2 years ago

Does it come with pesky sales assistant avatar?
    ..
So this is the evolution of bricks and mortar retail then. Wonder how Sony will feel if they undercut their digital download prices?
  • twyford #33 2 years ago

Geez really? I'm sure some people will love it, but I get bored waiting for Home to even load, I'm pretty sure I could get on my laptop, load the GAME site, find what I want and order it all before Home has loaded and I've made it to the virtual store.

Out of interest though, does it still allow you to use your Game website login/account and attached GAME reward card/points?
  • KrazyFace #34 2 years ago

Honestly, I think Game are being pretty smart about this. We all know that the internet has had a massive effect on retail stores and before you all tell me there is a Game website to buy stuff from, I'd like to point out that there are kids that want games without credit cards out there! Most 13 year olds can't just sign into Game.co.uk and buy anything they like, but they can now buy a PSN card, put in their PSN wallet and toddle off to (virtua) Game and buy what they like, without mummy or daddy knowing (till it gets delivered). Also, try not jumping down my throught about underage game purchases as I hardly think the average Game staff gives a shit about who they sell what to anyways!

The shops on the high street are stuggling to bring in as many customers as they used to, and they need to get out as many feelers as possible. There must be something like a couple million people in (EU) Home at any given time, so this is a good way to bring in more buyers. Still, it won't be the same without that annoying radio station playing, and the smell of baby sick and B.O insulting your nose. OH! And they should include NPC avatars standing in a MASSIVE line all holding shit like "Paint My Pony" or "Baby Changer Challenge 2"
