360-exclusive Fallout: NV DLC revealed

Out next month.

Xbox 360 owners will enjoy the first Fallout: New Vegas DLC exclusively when it launches next month.

Dead Money will be released on 21st December exclusively on Xbox Live for 800 MS Points.

In Dead Money, you're the victim of a raw deal, and must work alongside three other captured wastelanders to recover the legendary treasure of the Sierra Madre Casino.

New terrain, foes and choices will greet the player.

"We're pleased to give fans a chance to expand their experience in Fallout: New Vegas this December with Dead Money," said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks.

"The release of Dead Money illustrates our commitment to creating entertaining add-on content for players to enjoy in already massive games like Fallout: New Vegas."

Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas launched last month. Dan Whitehead awarded the post-apocalyptic openworld role-player a stonking 9/10.

    Is the game less broken than it was upon release, for them to release DLC already...?!
  • LOLLERS #2 2 years ago

    prefer for them to illustrate their commitment to making less buggy games tbh!

    While playing the other day I really was wondering whether it should have been marked down a notch or two for bugs. It's more Fallout which is always good, but 9/10 suggests a quality which this is sadly lacking...

    Exclusive for a pre-determined amount of time before being released on other platforms you mean
  • Rizo #4 2 years ago

    Cus of this and the bugs I'm going to wait for the game of the year addition!
  • StolenGlory #5 2 years ago

    Fix the original fucking game first please.
  • bobiroka #6 2 years ago

    Here's an idea. Why not finish the game before making more content for it? How this has sold 5 million copies and is up for 3 VGAs is honestly and truly beyond me... /madness...
  • bobiroka #7 2 years ago

    You know what? If the bugs aren't fixed by the weekend I'm taking this back and trading it in for Prince of Persia Collection or AC:Bloodlines... Finished games FTW!
  • darkmorgado #8 2 years ago

    Bah. I really need to get around to finishing this game. Fable 3 diverted me. Then deadly premonition. Then Kinect. And now ACB.

    TOO MANY GAMES!!!!
  • Lunastra78 #9 2 years ago

    I'm about to wrap up the game now with all 4 endings and most of the trophies. I don't know if mine is a worst case scenario but the game has frozen up at least about 30-40 times during my playthrough (PS3), and those are just the real game breaking issues not counting all the weird glitches and brainfarts in companions, enemies etc. I'm just happy the game has the decency to save after resting/travelling etc.

    So by far, the most broken game I ever had a chance to play. It's been entertaining at times but I'm glad to be done with it now. As far as DLC goes on this one, you can keep it.

    Edit: went straight back to playing the last Caesar mission after writing this post, and lo and behold, after 10 seconds it freezes on the stairway up to his tent!

    @bobiroka:

    Sorry for disappointing you, but Bloodlines is far from being finished... Believe me. :\
  • lennon #11 2 years ago

    In all seriousness what are these bugs people are complaining about.

    Im about 20 hours in and apart from a few graphical oddities like people being stuck to ceilings and enemies being stuck in rocks I've yet to come across anything game breaking.

    Not saying there isnt just so far been unafected.
  • bobiroka #12 2 years ago

    @M4RV:

    3 x Prince of Persia in HD it is then... reviews I've read on Bloodlines don't mention much in the way of bugginess. It can hardly be in the same league of utter broken-ness that FNV is in can it? Is it much worse than AC2? I found that perfectly playable. The game didn't break and stop me from playing it. I'm not looking for perfection, just the ability to advance in the game without having to start over...
  • geeza2020 #13 2 years ago

    still on track for me to get the GOTY then :)
  • bobiroka #14 2 years ago

    @Lennon:

    There's a well documented savegame bug on 360 which stops the game from loading. It can happen at any time and to anyone, almost like a cancer. I have friends who have had problems, but I was one of the unlucky ones. Count yourself lucky... I should have listened to the reviews...
  • lennon #15 2 years ago

    When you say save game bug as in all save games or a paticular one? I always have about 10 on the go so may not be affected to badly?
  • waynenot #16 2 years ago

    Does this come before or after you fix the main game, Obsidian?
  • Jay-ITFC #17 2 years ago

    Exclusive? Bet anything you like they conveniently forgot to add the word 'timed' before that...
  • udat #18 2 years ago

    By Bloodlines do you mean Brotherhood? Or are you referencing one of the buggiest but best supported games ever, the community supported Vampire Bloodlines game?
  • HistoryTeller #19 2 years ago

    Been playing for about 35-40 hours and still not close to finish my first play through, DLC is not the first thing in my mind. Playing PC so its not actually and issue, is it?
  • Noble6 #20 2 years ago

    No big deal, is the dlc patch going to be exclusive ? Now thats news.
  • SAMagic #21 2 years ago

    I imagine the DLC was planned months ago and it probably wasn't a case of either producing it or fixing bugs.

    I'm 64 hours into my first play through on PC, the only bugs I've had is the occasional crash and sometimes my companion (ED-E or Rex) attacking NCR troopers. I'm obsessed with finding every location and exploring the Mojave, just like I was in FallOut 3, and loving it. Awesome game. Obsidian taking on another studio's tech must be one of the main reasons for the bugs, so hopefully in the future we'll have shiny new engine for our post-apocalyptic romps. My money is on Bethesda doing FallOut 4: New York.

    As for the DLC, I wonder what style it will be? It seemed to be that the DLC for FO3 was a test to see what players preferred, whether action (Operation Anchorage), small but relatively detailed areas (The Pitt), a large new area (Point Lookout) or something totally different (Mothership Zeta). Point Lookout was my favourite, but I'll settle for a new style of adventure, gang warfare seems fun, or how about letting us play as a ghoul or Super Mutant? I'd pay for DLC that let me play as Lily... :)
  • Tomnd #22 2 years ago

    General concensus: Fix bugs in original game first.

    On a different note i wouldn't mind knowing how big the exp pack will be. Size of the fallout 3 ones? Couple of missions ala fable 2 packs? Bethesda stated in a interview previously that the DLC from F3 was really hard to create in the time frame they gave themselves, and they wouldn't do it again. Then again this is obsidien.
  • M4RV #23 2 years ago

    @bobiroka:

    Never encountered a freeze in Bloodlines, but plenty of audio glitches and bugs, namely "Mission Failed" messages for no reason whatsoever and falling ( literally ) of the game map. The game is very short though, so it's possible you barely notice them... most of the time.
  • SteveHolt #24 2 years ago

    This DLC sounds like a nice tribute to John Huston's movie... If the movie is anything to go by, expect some nasty moral choices and hopefully a fantastic ending.
  • peppergomez #25 2 years ago

    Fix the freaking bugs, first.
  • lockload #26 2 years ago

    With all the other games about im about 8 hourrs in so i doubt ill have finished by december so it can wait
  • Murton #27 2 years ago

    "We're pleased to give fans a chance to expand their experience in Fallout: New Vegas this December with Dead Money," said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks.

    I'd have thought that Pete Hines especially would have learned his lesson from the original Failout 3 debacle. Don't use the word "fans" when describing exclusive content, doing so implies that you believe in a two tiered system where you have "fans" who are appreciated and supported post release, and "consumers" who you'll simply take money from to subsidise the support for your "fans" while giving them sweet FA. We saw this taken to new levels with Fallout 3 where PS3 users received what could be described as beta code at best and didn't receive a single bug fix or improvement over its two year shelf life, furthermore the bugs that were discovered in DLC released on 360/PC over six months previous were still present when the PS3 version was finally released, at a high price I should add.

    Bethesda had better get its fucking act together for Brink and RAGE.
  • Gaol #28 2 years ago

    I feel for folk that have had 30-40 freezes like Lunastra above, but it's not every person - on PS3 I've played 55 hours on one save with 3 freezes, all after long sessions. Another 15 hour playthrough hasn't had a single crash. I'm not convinced a patch will ever sort out lock-ups and crashes - I think it's just a product of different consoles/PCs (and in particular RAM and HDDs) having different tolerences to being pushed to the limit for long spells by a badly optimized engine.

    The quest bugs will no doubt be ironed out, but my advice if you're a huge fan of these games is to try them on a gaming PC built from all branded components and run at stock speeds. I played FO3 this way and had one single crash in some 100 hours playing.

    Hopefully the bad press finally having caught up with Bethesda will focus their minds on moving to a new engine sooner rather than later.
  • makeamazing #29 2 years ago

    Havent played it for a while, been too busy, was going to restart at Xmas, but from the 6 hours i played NV is a buggy mess in places, and they really should concentrate their efforts on that rather than exclusive timed DLC...I am not one to complain, but games that sell millions and millions of copies like this, deserve the companies involved to spend some time fixing the mess they have released.
  • kwolf666 #30 2 years ago

    Seriously people, all of you who complain about the game being broken and unfinished please tell me one thing: Why in god's name do you buy a game that everybody knew would be a technical mess? Same engine as fallout 3, same bugs, same neglect by the developer. Why do you buy this shit? You finance Bethesday with your money, they really must think you are happy with their product...
  • Sunyavadin #31 2 years ago

    Probably waiting for GOTY edition... Cash is tight right now.
  • Sunyavadin #32 2 years ago

    Additionally: Am I the ONLY owner of this game who has yet to experience a single bug?
  • man.the.king #33 2 years ago

    @Gaol

    "n PS3 I've played 55 hours on one save with 3 freezes, all after long sessions. Another 15 hour playthrough hasn't had a single crash"

    Only one save-game? For an RPG from Bethesda/Obsidian? You are courting disaster, mate.
  • RazorObsession #34 2 years ago

    I love F:NV, but the bug in the Brotherhood of Steel quest line means I cant get my power armour training, as they tell me to come back in three days, ad infinitum. Maybe the Enclave will help me out with some training?

    Would be nice if they fixed the bugs first, proving to me that my faith is not misplaced, before cheekily asking me for more dough.

    Kind of reminds me of a cowboy builder really.
  • Gaol #35 2 years ago

    @mantheking

    I meant one playthrough, I do keep a different manual save each day.
  • TheTingler #36 2 years ago

    I've got the game on PC and since the last patch I've been fine. Had one crash, but as the game saves so often it's not a problem. Of course consequently I'm not having the DLC straight away, but I'm nowhere near finished in the main game anyway!

    Anyone know a) who's making the DLC, is it Obsidian (good) or Bethesda (hmph)? And b) does it continue the main game after you finish the story, like Broken Steel did with Fallout 3?

    @bobiroka: I think you mean Brotherhood. Bloodlines is the PSP Assassin's Creed game.
  • Phishfood #37 2 years ago

    Blah or I could just wait a year and get the game at a reduced price bundled with all the DLC.
  • metroid455 #38 2 years ago

    psssht bethesda and Obsidian FIX YOUR BUG RIDDEN BETA FIRST
    that is all
  • Fab4 #39 2 years ago

    I'm about 45hrs in and have experienced only one crash (failing to load after going through a door). 360 slim version.

    I probably won't need the extra DLC until well into next year. Loving it :)
  • mkreku #40 2 years ago

    My Steam account tells me I've been playing Fallout: New Vegas for over 92 hours. I've had a few crashes, but it's still the best game I've played all year.

    Kind of sad that they're locking out two thirds of their fanbase with this exclusivity. Oh well.
  • mungolikebeans #41 2 years ago

    How can you people have finished the game already!??

    Don't you have jobs/social lives??

    I've managed precisely 1.5 hrs since launch day....

    Damn, i wish i was 14 again. All the time in the world......
  • Vigor_Mortivore #42 2 years ago

    this game doesn't deserve a standing ovation, shows how the industry sucks cock like shaking hands, this game is an insult 2 years after Fallout 3, lazy developers. Letdown of the year!
