OFFICIAL: Gran Turismo 5 dated
Christmas is back on.
After half a decade of development and weeks of torturous speculation, Sony has finally dated perhaps the most anticipated PlayStation 3 game of all time - Gran Turismo 5.
Kazunori Yamauchi's racing opus will roar into life on Wednesday, 24th November, Sony has confirmed.
Christmas is back on - and for real this time.
So Sony wasn't having us on by clinging to a "before Christmas" release dream; Sony isn't the Sherriff of Nottingham after all.
"Gran Turismo 5 is an ambitious project," said creator Kazunori Yamauchi, "with challenges and complexities that have made it our version of the Apollo Space Programme!"
"When we created the original Gran Turismo back in 1997, we wanted to set a completely new precedent for the racing genre. With the technological leap onto PlayStation 3, our objective with GT5 was to create another great revolution which would not only satisfy our own high expectations, but would meet or even exceed the anticipation of the fans.
"Satisfying the loyal Gran Turismo followers is at the heart of all of our efforts," he added, "which is why it was such a difficult decision to delay the release of the game, and one which we did not take lightly. I can only apologise to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed."
In October, Sony stirred the hornets' nest by delaying Gran Turismo 5 from 3rd November to "before Christmas". There's been plenty to talk about since then: Yamauchi popped up talking about Gran Turismo 6 again, and then gabbled on about how the PS3 is "still not enough" for Gran Turismo.
We've even had a nose at the full Gran Turismo 5 Trophy list. Will you try for the Platinum Trophy? It only requires that you earn every single other Trophy in the game.
Wheely good. Engine-uine triumph.

This strikes me as an odd decision, but hey. I suppose they did their math.

It'll probably feel it given how long it's been in development.
Meh, I'll probably pick it up anyway. I just hope, after all this time, it's not a let down.

BF is Black Friday week I am guessing, the week when stores in America sell all kinds of stuff at crazy low prices in order to drive consumerism for Xmas / "Thanksgiving"

We will see in a due weeks, and I am open minded that they would vastly improves on what was not really an earth shattering Prologue demos, and should that be a note for a considerate caution?
Launching about a week after the favourable reviewed new iteration of the Need for Speed series, which of course is an entirely different section of driving genre. Though may influence people's thinking in term of constrasting experiences.

That's a bit of a dumb footnote surely? :-S
Anyway, woo! Definitely on the Christmas list here!

But...they're had forever to release it...and they go ahead an release it a week after Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit! Bit of a shitter for those of us with limited gaming time.

Ok thanks. Black Friday makes more sense that Breast Feeding.

I still don't know if I should be racking up the credits/cars in Prologue to transfer them over to the full game though... Any ideas anyone?

Great game but should have been better for the time it took.

P.S. it's funny how sensitive the SDF is about GT5. Hah.

Black Friday the traditional US kick-off for the Christmas holiday shopping season.
Think of it as "Boxer Day" but before Christmas and lasting a week.

"It was confirmed definately by Sony on PS blog from 2.30pm today. "
Yes I know, but that didn't hold EG back to spread some vague controversial rumour that turned out to be complete bollocks, now did it?
And the irony is that they *could* have published the real release date yesterday. It was pretty much 100% confirmed as it came from SCE themselves; just not officially on their public blog.
BTW is your nickname S2K in any way related to the S2000? (great car!

When the latest delay was announced I can imagine EA and Criterion let out a huge sigh of relief. It was a massive break for them. But now it looks like they'll sell 90/10 in favour of the 360. I can't see many people buying both. I'll pick NFS up next summer as that'll probably be the only time when I'm free to play it.
The next 12 sleeps are going to be very hard indeed. It can't come quick enough

Anyway, I have to admit I was one of those guys who was certain it wouldn't come out this year anymore and spouted that on the internet. So, what's the official opposite of "I told you so"?

But it turned out to be much more reliable than EG's "industry source". Please EG, tell me, is that industry source of yours working for Microsoft?

Very true indeed...
My nickname is in some respects based on the S2000, but also have different meanings...lol!! Can't wait to get my hands on GT5 anyhow, I have my G27 and WheelStand Pro ready to go!!
All I want to know, is if there is proper clutch support (not like Prologue), and 900 degree steering...all people care about on GTPlanet is the sound...

Though it is ironic that GT is the best advert for arcade racers there is.
Because it makes Final Fantasy look like a minigame.
