Design your own S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 quest

Dev looking for mission ideas.

The studio behind S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 has called on fans to submit quest ideas for the forthcoming FPS sequel.

Developer GSC Game World launched the contest on its Facebook page, asking entrants to email their concepts to contest@gsc-game.com.

The best ideas will be weeded out and then put before a judging panel consisting of the game's project lead, PR director and lead game designer. The winning idea "may be implemented in the new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game."

"This said," the Facebook post continued, "the developers retain the right to change the quest looks or implementation, while preserving the key author's idea"

At the very least, those selected will see their names in the game's credits.

"Each participant may send up to five contest scenarios. The scenarios should be well-thought logically and implementable. Take quests from the released games as examples," GSC went on to explain.

As much as we applaud such community spirit, GSC did a fine job on its own last time out. Eurogamer's Dan Pearson awarded the bleak, brutal S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat a very respectable 8/10 earlier this year.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is due for release on PC some time in 2012.

    I know!

You have to collect 10 specimens of mutated wildlife so an NPC can carry out research. But unfortunately it's really delicious so a bizarrely prolific breed of mutant pig has eaten them all. You need to slaughter the pigs in the hope of finding enough undigested specimens to satisfy the questiver.

I swear this has never been done before!

The cellar of the local pub has been overrun by giant mutant rats. Get down there and clear the cellar! Oh, and grab a bottle of a specific drink that some other guy wants while you're there!

You have to escort an NPC to the nearest settlement. Unfortunately, the nearest settlement is 10 miles away and he's really old so can barely walk, so you need to make sure he is protected while he very slowly moves towards the settlement, while stopping every now and then to catch his breath, which presents the perfect opportunity for the local wildlife/bandits to attack.

Guys, they said well thought out...

We moan about generiquests, so this is our chance to show we can come up with better! Isn't so easy is it?

You find out that you are destined to defeat an evil dark lord, but to do so you first have to gather several scattered pieces of an ancient artifact while gathering a band of followers along the way.

Some guys wife is really ill and the only thing that can save her is some special herb/plant thing that only grows in a pond at the bottom of a dangerous cave.

Battle progressively harder beasts and monsters as you get deeper into the cave before fighting a giant bat/dragon/mushroom etc that is hanging around the plant. Take plant back, save wife, get gold, or some crappy item you don't want.

A General for the opposing faction holds vital information, he is known to be a bit of a pervert so you must seduce him in order to make him vulnerable, only when your ball-bag is dangling an inch away from his mouth should you draw your weapon.

    Features ball-bag motion-sensing mini-game

How about a quest where you need to protect a lair of bloodsuckers from duty squads, because one of bloodsuckers told you that they are not evil, only misunderstood?

Or a quest where you befriended a controller, and now are scouring the zone for vodka and sausages so you can have a party at the outskirts of pripyat, featuring dancing zombie entertainers and poltergeist special effects specialist.

Here's another one: you found unique artifact that allows you to control animals, and so you took control of a pack of rats, and now your goal is to get 100.000 rubles by telling your pets to annoy stalkers, and then coming forth and offering to help them get rid of the rats. You need to do it in 3 days though, because artifact is going to go bust after that, and you also need to avoid stalkers from previously visited camps in case they start spreading pure lies about what the real deal with the rats is...

How about a quest to come up with a good quest for a computer game? You could read about it on a games related website and then post generic and clichéd quest ideas for a laugh.

Then smash your face into your keyboard when most people miss the irony!

Find parts to build a time machine which will send you back to the first game and you'll replay all the missions from there. Dev time will be vastly reduced.
