EVE noob edition Europe-bound

Kick-start bundle here in December.

The noob-friendly shop-shelf edition of online spaceship game EVE Online is coming to Europe.

Namco Bandai is doing the honours and expects the game to be available in December. The US version arrived in mid-October.

Properly dubbed the Commissioned Officer Edition, this bundle aims to get new EVE recruits up to speed fast.

The key perk will be a Cerebral Accelerator implant, which "significantly increases" skill development of a fledgling pilot as well as bestows nearby allies with "a powerful boost" to their abilities. The downside? The Cerebral Accelerator only works for 30 days.

The Commissioned Officer Edition also packs 30 days of free game time as well as a nifty poster with hints and tips on - and you'll need them up there.

What's more, the Commissioned Officer Edition can be employed to convert an existing free trial or buddy program trial account into a full account. The first character created on the account will get the Cerebral Accelerator.

The EVE Online: Commissioned Officer Edition will only be available in the UK and Germany. It's a shop exclusive - it won't be offered digitally online.

Usual stuff applies here - if you've just started playing EVE, look up Eve University - we've been around for over 6 years now with 4,000 people passing through our doors in the last year alone - and we provide a number of resources to non-members too.

haha, im def going to get this, the prospect of being 'ownd' in a well established and experienced game pool was the main reason for not trying it out so far.
I also expect to be 'pwnd' by more experienced players getting this for some fresh fish picks ;)
    Good times

Also allow me to present the obligatory Eurogamer Corp pitch. We now have a nice little home for people who want to scoot around space without starting trouble and a sister Corp that lives for starting trouble.

Would love to get into EVE, but I hated the ship piloting. Let me fly the damn things, not direct them!

Seeing as everyone is pitching their corp, allow me to mention E-ON, which is actually a rubbish corp... but we do have a magazine!

I did a free trial of Eve a year or two back. Is the tutorial still incredibly complex and ultra dull?

I lasted about 20 minutes before uninstalling.

Does it come with free spreadsheet software?

AFAIK the Cerebral Accelerator only applies its bonuses to the implanted player, not to their allies. It's a stat + damage boosting implant.

    *checks*

Ah yeah - it does the following:

    All stats +3
Turret Damage (Autos, Hybrids, Lasers) + 20%
Missile Rate of Fire - 20%

It's a great idea to give new pilots a stat boost to help early training, not so sure about the damage/rof increases though, as the new player will probably notice a significant drop in power when the implant expires. I guess this is to encourage players to train the higher level weapon skills to get the damage bonus 'back' through normal training.

    EG corps ftw! :D

EDIT: @ abigsmurf - not really, I went through most of them when I started in July this year and didn't find them too bad at all, so maybe they've had an overhaul since you last played? The tutorials will only teach you the basics, it's much better to join a corp that will help you get started and give you pointers/idea/suggestions/little isk when you need it etc if you want to give the game a proper try.
