Treyarch gets tough on Black Ops cheats

Won't make "douche bags" celebrities.

Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch has warned anyone thinking of exploiting glitches in the game that they will be taking a zero tolerance approach to cheating.

Multiplayer director David Vonderhaar posted on the official Call of Duty forums, "We are disinterested in making mini-celebrities out of douche-bags.

"You better think twice before you glitch. You never know who in your game doesn't like glitchers who reports you and saves the game in their File Share and tells us about it."

"What many of these people want is to be internet nerd famous. I'm not going to make them famous and you shouldn't either."

"Given the opportunity," he added, "I'd personally wield the ban hammer for anyone who thinks he is clever by abusing any glitches. Good thing I don't have the opportunity that often and we actually have a constructive, measured, and well-managed live ops team."

Sounds like bans may well be incoming. Consider yourself warned.

Treyarch's community manager yesterday claimed that a million users logged onto Xbox Live to play its lauded FPS during the first day of release alone – so there should be plenty of people for the developer to keep an eye on.

    Just wanted to post:

"We are disinterested in making mini-celebrities out of douche-bags. You better think twice before you glitch. You never know who in your game doesn't like glitchers who reports you and saves the game in their File Share and tells us about it."

because reading it twice wasn't enough...

    Uninterested. Disinterested means impartial
  • AaronTurner #6 2 years ago

The people they glitch against that have also paid for the game?

It's amusing how everyone has adopted Bungie's "ban hammer" phrase.
  • gribb #10 2 years ago

Are they also "dis-interested" in the memory leaks which are making the PC version unplayable at the moment?
  • CaptainQuint #11 2 years ago

Wait - so bans are reliant upon a player drawing light on a cheater and reporting them via their file share? It isn't automated; as it is in excellently policed Halo Reach?

People are gonna glitch the fuck out Black Ops and get away with it.

If it's in the game it's fair game. If it's not intended, then sure, patch it out, but don't punish people for doing something that's possible within the game.
  • billy323 #13 2 years ago

    @Centrifugal
Bungie didn't invent the phrase Ban Hammer its been used on forums for years
  • bad09 #14 2 years ago

Worry about fixing it before worrying about cheats Treyarch the PC version is shocking right now, which is a shame as this could potentially be the best COD ever.

I can see early/mid November becoming my most loathed time of year. Give the CoD news a rest.
  • GamesConnoisseur #16 2 years ago

    .... COD BanHammer Warfare X....
  • Haloboy #17 2 years ago

If only it got tough on the fucking stutter lag the game is currently plagued by. Online and offline. Then I'd be impressed.

Glitching is not cheating, its exploiting.
Normally server owners/admins take care of exploiters if they don't allow it.

So now server owners can not have a server where glitching is allowed?
  • dingo75 #19 2 years ago

So I can get an internet celebrity by cheating in a video game?

    Get a fucking clue Treyarch!
Not the whole world revolves around your little shooting game...
  • lockload #20 2 years ago

I guess the great thing is you can capture a video after the game and post the link from the file share

Although i hope they can put patches our fairly quickly

Its a pity they didnt take that attitude with their previous CoD games.

"Are they also "dis-interested" in the memory leaks which are making the PC version unplayable at the moment?"

    ...8 hours and ongoing x16AA 1920x1080 at 50 / 65 FPS through FRAPS

Stop talking out of your ass. It's very much playable. Only issue i have is the kill-cams lagging. That's it.
All this bogus about "OMG LAG" is just person to person based though really. But just give the developers time to collect data and actually launch a patch. Just hang tight!

Kill all hackers and glitchers (sic) .... but kill them on x-box, it will be a better resolution and frame rate :p
  • acerimmear #24 2 years ago

Never mind that, fix the friking PC version
  • metroid455 #25 2 years ago

good please keep hackers out of the Wii version too cuz my friend and I are really enjoying multiplayer online atm
  • Meho #26 2 years ago

Heh... so... people use an existing feature in the game, however unintended it may be, and they get banned? Meanwhile, the memory leak issue makes the game unplayable on my PC at least and that somehow doesn't even make the news? Yeah... priorities there are surely clear.
  • bigtechno #27 2 years ago

i don't cheat as i wouldn't kknow where to begin
    i'm to old to understand
but surely if the game lets you do something it is just bending the roolz
    (like my street talk)
  • Cronan #28 2 years ago

So, throwing the tomahawk at the same time as dropping a care package is a bannable offense? How about not shipping the game with the EXACT SAME GLITCH that MW2 shipped with?

    Bunch of fucking amateurs.

Hackers, Glitchers, Modders they are all one of the same, pathetic little pricks that have to cheat to be able to win games. I hope they all get what they deserve. They ruin the game expirience for everyone just to boost there own little ego. Man up ya little girls.

So are they going to charge an additional amount to the rented servers fee for anti-glitching checks?
  • ryuga81 #31 2 years ago

Banhammer: the ultimate resource for developers unable to deliver a finished game. I mean, they are not even talking about 3rd party "hack" software, they just said "our game is bugged but we're too lazy to fix it so we will ban people occasionally"...
