Huge FIFA 11 patch detailed, dated

Offside!

EA will release a comprehensive FIFA 11 patch on 12th November for PlayStation 3 and 17th November for Xbox 360.

The patch will make the offside rule more accurate, improve shooting from weak volleys and eliminate "micro-pausing", among other things.

"Overall, your gameplay experience should now be even better," wrote the Football Live Team at EA Canada on FIFA 11's official forum.

You can expect improvements to the career mode, online head to head play, online clubs, presentation, audio, the creation centre, the FIFA Store and kits.

Highlights for us include the removal of exploits some sneaky gits were using in online play and improved cut scenes during substitutions.

Tom awarded FIFA 11 8/10 in Eurogamer's review.

It enjoyed the biggest sports game launch ever, according to EA, selling over 2.6 million copies globally and generating over $150 million in less than a week.

    The amount of games you can potentially have as early as November in one month (in Career mode) annoys me. They touch on it slightly, but hope this has been edited.

    The button lag will not be fixed however, which means club games will remain unplayable.

    What the fuck is that "freezing" shit? I'm about to trade FIFA 10 for FIFA 11 this weekend, and this is the first I've heard of that.

    Fuck's sake - that's inexcusable! All of a sudden it's okay to release a product in such a state, as long as you fix it later on?

    The freezing can get very annoying at times, glad they're addressing it.

    Not had any of these issues when I've been playing it, but then I've mostly been playing exclusively in Career mode. As for button lag, is that in fact just the game realistically playing the fact that you can't kick a ball if it's not actually at your feet? (i.e. in the middle of a dribble when you've kicked the ball slightly ahead and haven't caught up with it yet). I certainly haven't seen any evidence of button lag yet...

    @Tricky this button lag is a multiplayer thing. What happens is, say you press up to move your player then he only reacts 2/3 secs later, which makes it playing online a nightmare. I never had this issue on 1v1, but Team Play and Clubs happens all the time.

    So last year they just chose to ignore the game crippling bugs rendering our purchases void, yet this year a few small bugs gets a patch? What happened last year?

    What "online exploits" are these you are talking about, Wesley?

    Do you mean to say that when I was playing as Ajax and losing, there was a very good chance that I was just being cheated out of a 0-0 draw?

    They need to fix the passing, every once in a while, but more often than it should, you'll try to pass to someone and the player will kick the ball in a completely different direction. Fix that EA and I'll be happy.

    Where's my Career mode patch? How can a player averaging 8-9 a match go down in rating?

    The offside were stupid as they were. The ball moving forward from the left-back and going less than a yard before coming back to him, an offside is given that is 60 yards up the pitch on the opposite wing.

    The volleys are poor, in Fifa 10 maybe it was too easy to score them but in Fifa 11 they have borked them completely. Would like them to be a bit better.

    And the Clubs lag that others have mentioned.

    I'm most glad they're fixing the career mode. The AI (especially when it's your team-mates) is fist-chewingly bad. They just run into the opposition without ever looking for a pass. When you're lucky to see the ball move forward out of the middle third, the other plays don't make any runs, ultra-offensive or not.

    Be A Pro was one of my favourite features of FIFA but when I saw how piss-poor it was in 11, I very nearly shit a brick.

    I'm most glad they're fixing the career mode. The AI (especially when it's your team-mates) is fist-chewingly bad. They just run into the opposition without ever looking for a pass. When you're lucky to see the ball move forward out of the middle third, the other players don't make any runs, ultra-offensive or not.

    Looking forward to this patch a lot.

    Been playing PES11 for the last few weeks (once I discovered how poor the Careeer mode was in Fifa) and it's getting very boring at this stage. PES is far too "digital" - everything either "on" or "off", and once you learn to exploit that, it gets very easy. Miss the more analogue realism of Fifa. Just do hope they fix up career mode properly

    Weird..... Iv played 3 seasons MM, another 2 as VP, plus 2600 points worth of ranked matchs and Iv never, ever experienced this 'micro-stuttering' at all.

    Apart from some laggy matchs online - which is a given.
