Is SSX: Deadly Descent about to drop?

Speculation is rampant that a new game in the SSX series is in the works after internet sleuths spotted EA- registered domains relating to the arcade snowboarding franchise.

EA registered five new SSX-related domain names (all spotted by superannuation), which suggest a game called SSX: Deadly Descent exists somewhere deep within the confines of the mega publisher.

One domain registered is for something called SSX First Descent – could that be a handheld and/or Wii version?

The last game in the series, SSX Blur, disappointed. Tom awarded it 6/10 for Eurogamer.

We'll have a chinwag with EA and see what's what.

Lets hope it's a decent Descent. I like my SSX games stoopid and surreal like Tricky not vaguely realistic with MTV knobs on like the last poor effort.

Oh, Hell YES!!!! Please let something come from this.

Crazy SSX Tricky style courses & not the "open worlds" of SSX3 & On Tour though please EA.

I second the "please be like Tricky" comments. I loved SSX 3 as well but Tricky was the best.

I really hope this is a PS3/X360 game, and not just for the WII or PSP.

An HD, online-enabled upgrade of the more realistic mountains of SSX3 could be frikking sweet. Although I guess Tricky was more plain fun. So, a middle ground then please?

I disagree with some of the above posters, I liked SSX3's mountain hub. Racing a rival down the mountain taking around 15-20 minutes (if I remember correctly) was really enjoyable. Also, the majority of courses on SSX3 were some of the best in the series.

Tricky was brilliant, but SSX 3 was the better game! The 30 minute peak to town race is still one of my favourite courses to play.

We need a game with no motion control, online enabled, 60fps and a soundtrack akin to tricky/3.

They gotta keep that awesome way the sound worked in Tricky - i.e. licensed songs (chilli peppers/placebo/etc.) that start with just the baseline and then the guitar kicks in when you start doin better, then the drums when you fill up the tricky meter more, then the vocals when you've maxed it out - it was pretty sweet - when you wiped out it reverted back to just the base again.

3 had the music go muffled when you got huge air then kick back in on landing. It was epic!
I'd love to do a peak to town race with other boarders there. It was always solitary in 3.

For me the first one remain the best ever, as for it times, it was so ground breaking fresh and loud, with crazy coloured ramps and such.

Tricky was the best of the series sure, but too many of the good things can wear things down, and so well more than enough times had passed and this generation hasnt really seen much of SSX so please come back in a BIG way!

SSX. YES! No more suspense, though, EA - get some of your hand visible on the table.

I agree that First Descent could be for one audience, and Deadly marketed anmd targeted for another.
