UK chart: Football Manager 2011 is top

Activision's James Bond games struggle.

Football Manager 2011 is top of the UK all-formats chart.

Apparently sales for Sports Interactive's title were stronger than for PES 2011.

"Err - have just been told that our first weekend sales on one format beat Pro Evo's first weekend on multiple formats. Gulp," tweeted SI boss Miles Jacobson.

Football Manager 2011 dumped last week's leader Fable III to third.

Activision's new James Bond games - Blood Stone and GoldenEye - fail to dent the top 10: GoldenEye is 13th and Blood Stone 18th.

FIFA 11 holds second and Just Dance is fourth, with Professor Layton and the Lost Future in fifth.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii busts back into the top 10 in sixth, Fallout: New Vegas is seventh and Medal of Honor eighth. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and The Sims 3 round out the top 10.

Games that are knocked off the bottom of the all-formats top 40 this week: Rock Band 3, Vanquish, DJ Hero 2, Modernwarfare 2 and Mafia II.

Next week: Call of Duty Black Ops sells more copies than you and your entire family has had cooked meals in your entire life times thanks to the ever predictable UK population.

I'll be avoiding it, so it's not all bad news.

That's a few high profile failures for Activision this year (Blur, James Bond: Bloodstone, Singularity, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, DJ Hero 2).

They had 3 (inc. Guitar Hero) franchises keeping them going, now it's down to 2 (World of Warcraft and Call of Duty). I guess it won't be much longer before CoD runs out of popularity, that leaves them depending on Blizzard.

Also, Bizarre Creations to be shut down and everyone there to be out of a job by mid-2011, called it!

i'll be getting it, cos i can admit i enjoy the series :)

You cant really blame the UK gaming Pop for Black Ops sales next week, what about the rest of the world? the US gamers love there COD games, if anything it will sell massively there.

One in the eye for Activision.

Nice to see Goldeneye in a respectable position. I know it will drop off quickly but I'm still happy for eurocom after the very undeserving bad sales of dead space.

PS 13th is not struggling as the only third part wii games to debut higher this year maybe any year if I'm correct are Monster Hunter Tri and Just Dance.

Plus what helps COD is that even the BBC is reporting on how good a seller it is going to be. I wish they would report on a game like Fable or Arkam Asylum as being successful British game design.

Oooh its gotta hurt Harmonix when Rock Band 3 drops out of the top 40 quicker than Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, which was getting so panned for poor sales. Especially when they had hoped Guitar Hero's poor sales were down to people waiting for Rock Band 3.

Good news for FM2011 not sure how it normally does but i didn't think it reached No.1.

Shame to see RB3 out the charts but a number of people i've spoken to said they don't expect the game to do well until the hardware is released.

Goodbye rhythm genre, I'll miss you!

(waits for the inevitable keytar price crash)

Football Manger 2011 has the rightful 1st spot. Brilliant game!

Goldeneye makes the top 10 in the individual formats chart. The respective versions of Blood Stone are way down in the 30's.

It's not often that happens when similar games are released over the 3 home consoles.

fm11 - pure value for the amount of hours this game clocks up ... well done SI

Now officially worried about the future of Bizarre Creations. Or, at least, its non-racing game team.

Seems I will be able to pick up the James Bond games at Boxer Day for cheap :)
  • Numbat #17 2 years ago

Good to see re-entry from Blur though. Picked it up for £12 from Amazon and at first was not too impressed, but having played longer, finding it quite addictive. Definitely worth getting while cheap.
  • makeamazing #18 2 years ago

Yeah i picked up Blur the other day for £13... along with a few other bargins i was after.

You never know there might be a Blur 2, it might do a Dead Space....

I still cant believe Kayne and Lynch sold 1.5 Million...
  • sonicyoda #19 2 years ago

Who the fuck is buying Art Academy?
  • makeamazing #20 2 years ago

With regards to Rockband 3, the Keyboard still isnt available until end of this week or next week, so theres probably alot of PS3 owners who would buy it given the chance.
  • Farzlepot #21 2 years ago

Quite surprised to see GoldenEye that high; for all the legacy the name carries, I doubt the latest generation of gamers have heard of it, and considering the typical market of Wii owners, I never expect the more hard-core games to do well on there.

    So, kudos!

13th is pretty good for a third-party Wii game, considering its audience have been so jaded by the half-hearted offshoots they've had to deal with to date. It'll be in trouble once Black Ops arrives on Friday though, why Activision scheduled those games so close together beggars belief.
