Eurogamer Expo 2011 dates announced

Four days! 30,000 people! More stuff!

Eurogamer is delighted to announce that next year's Eurogamer Expo will take place at Earls Court from 22nd to 25th September 2011.

Yes, we're smashing out four full days of Eurogamer Expo next year following the wild, orgiastic success of this year's event - and we're using more of Earls Court, too, so we can accommodate more than 30,000 gamers across the show.

This year we hosted more playable UK exclusives than ever, many well ahead of their release - including Kinect, Gran Turismo 5, Gears of War III, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Brink and many others. Next year we plan to have even more.

For 2010 we also welcomed industry luminaries Peter Molyneux, Tim Willits and Yuji Naka among a starry cast of speakers for our Developer Sessions. Molyneux was introduced by a town crier and talked about the evolution of the Fable series, Willits showed RAGE on three consecutive days and there were countless other highlights. Expect more of that too.

Oh, and if you missed them, you can watch several of the speeches - including Molyneux's keynote - on our Videos channel.

We're going to be announcing further details on tickets, exhibitors and other changes for Eurogamer Expo 2011 in the New Year, so watch out! The scenes, they will be amazing.

Doing all 3 days nearly killed me this year... Not sure how many I'll manage this time! ;)
  • Hardlydan #5 2 years ago

    Great! Sign me up! :D
  • Haloboy #6 2 years ago

Im there. Not looking forward to the goddamn coach journey again though. :(
  • mcbi4kh2 #7 2 years ago

Excellent news, with a bit of luck it will be just as inconvenient and expensive to get to as it was this year.
  • Ryze #8 2 years ago

The best I can say is: perhaps/maybe, but probably not due to the London travel and accommodation price atrocities I generally see.
  • NewbieZilla #9 2 years ago

Hopefully I'll wind up being able to go. Was too broke this year.
  • rivuzu #10 2 years ago

Shall be attending all four days. GODDAMN. I WILL MAKE YOU REMEMBER MY NAME. /carves into the wall.
  • Macronx #11 2 years ago

No Leeds again? I messages you before this years event and you said you would look at coming back to the north. Way to go guys, 4 days in London, 0 days up North. Thanks for that.
  • TruSmiles #12 2 years ago

Just under 50 of us game students from Newcastle went to the Leeds one last year, but as far as I am aware, none of us made it to London this year. Please don't give up on having Northerly ones in the future :(
  • NecronomiconUK #13 2 years ago

No show in the north again? Fuck you guys.
  • originaljohn #14 2 years ago

Sweet, really enjoyed this years and I'm looking forward to next years. I'm glad its in london I have family I can stay with there... I live in northern ireland..
  • BurningEclipse #15 2 years ago

For all the people complaining about there being no show up in the North of England... I got on a plane from Ireland to be at the Expo this year. A train from Leeds isn't going to kill you!
  • cw- #16 2 years ago

And book a train far enough in advance, and it's cheap!
  • captain_Carl #17 2 years ago

Psh, one up North would be better. I might actually be able to afford to go then
  • alimokrane #18 2 years ago

Here is hopins EGE grows to be the premier event for gaming in EUROPE! we can dream.. may be in 10 years time ;)
  • geeza2020 #19 2 years ago

    How much are tickets then?
  • Venatio Verified Expo Community & Gaming Manager, Eurogamer Network #20 2 years ago

    @geeza2020

We'll have details on tickets etc sometime in the New Year.
  • Ignatius_Cheese #21 2 years ago

Put me down for at least one of those days.
  • Razz #22 2 years ago

    +1 to ignatius

Had so much fun volunteering this year! I made loads of new friends, got to speak to people about games all day, and got to promote the forum!
  • flipperpod #23 2 years ago

All you people telling us northerners off must be loaded! Even by staying with relatives and getting cheaper tickets it still cost considerably more than the expo ticket to actually get there this year and it was pretty inconvenient.
  • captain_Carl #24 2 years ago

So i get downvoted for not having £100+ to spend on bloody train tickets?
  • Ignatius_Cheese #25 2 years ago

Those slagging off the lack of a Northern event, think about it for a second.

The publishers and PR folk don't want resources split between two events or code leaving London. Simple commercial decision, however right or wrong it is from a consumer perspective.

You can hardly blame EG for this. They have said previously that they do not want a "two tier" event with a Northern event being seen as a second class event. This wouldn't be good for the gamers or the EG brand. Until publishers start noticing that people want an event outside of London, and are willing to spend money on sending reps and code up North, this is not going to change.
  • rivuzu #26 2 years ago

God, this North/South divide is fucking horrible to read. When're you all going to man up, shut up, and get on with your lives?

OH NOES. YOU CAN'T MAKE ONE EXPO BECAUSE THEY'RE IN LONDON. QUICK, INITIATE THE FLAMECANNON AND NEG THAT SHIT UP. LÉ WAH.

    @ geeza2020
Not sure how much they'll be this time around, but last time they were £8. Unless we see a killer price hike (Got my beedy eye on you, EG... Don't get any ideas!) then we can hope they're about the same.

"We're going to be announcing further details on tickets, exhibitors and other changes for Eurogamer Expo 2011 in the New Year, so watch out! The scenes, they will be amazing."

It will be compulsory for attendees to purchase one of the (many) leftover 2010 T-shirts

What happened to doing something up north? I'm guessing you mean something else... either that or you guys forgot there is another half of the country
  • barnettbeans #29 2 years ago

    Ever Heard of the North?

I know its a logistical nightmare to do the expo over 2 locations so why not do one up north on another date?

I will come anyway but the 14 hour round trip is a fu nightmare.

  • gallow #30 2 years ago

I shall book those dates off with the wife in the hope that I will be able to attend next year and not have a holiday (this year) or birth (year before) occurring next year.
  • hello_fi #31 2 years ago

    Northernerslol

You can have an expo when you finally get electricity up there, not before.
  • jonbwfc #32 2 years ago

@gallow:"I shall book those dates off with the wife"

Frankly, your relationship sounds far too formal.
  • jonbwfc #33 2 years ago

    @hello_fi

You do realise if we didn't have electricity, we wouldn't be able to read your post, right?
  • Hughtendo #34 2 years ago

Proper merchandise stalls this time please!
  • ChronoMizaki #35 2 years ago

I'm from the North and personally, I still rather go down to the London one. Because no matter what, the North is going to be seen as second-tier no matter what. We're always going to get the short end of the stick whilst London gets everything... so I rather travel down to London.

    But four days? Awesome
  • rivuzu #36 2 years ago

    @ChronoMizaki

You know where the shits at. It's the country's capital for a reason. If only the rest of your hairy palmed fellows felt the same.
  • geoneo123 #37 2 years ago

Where is the 'Buy Ticket' Button!
  • psychokitten #38 2 years ago

    I can't wait!

3 days didn't break me, lets see if 4 will. Bring it, EG!
  • Skorms-Boss #39 2 years ago

all the "oh fuck you in the north you can get down to london"

you could get up to leeds (or manchester or newcastle) but you don't want to so shut up!

(and I'm disabled and would find the journey down to london impossible)

  • gfindlay1974 #40 2 years ago

North of the country? Leeds? Which map are you guys looking at?
When I saw everyone looking for an event up north I thought you'd expanded your horizons and were going to visit Scotland. We have managed to build a couple of cities that could host the expo.

I have travelled from Edinburgh for all three expos. Quite your whining and enjoy the expo.

  • Mayhem64 #41 2 years ago

Most of the gaming shows that occur, happen in the north already. I couldn't go to the R3play event due to timing and costs for example. So to have a show in the south is an exception. You're just going to have to suck this one up for a change...
  • Macronx #42 2 years ago

The cost of travel and accommodation makes this thing totally not worth it. I'm a games design student with a class of around 30 people who went to last years but, none of us are going to London, just not worth it. What's the big problem with the north anyway? Doing 4 days in London and none up north just seems stupid. Why not two at each??
  • Jamiesan #43 2 years ago

£100 for a train? This year it cost me £11 each way from Lime Street to Euston. First class - because I booked a couple of months in advance. Only slightly more than a day travelcard in London!

If anyone is interested, I got the tickets from virgintrains.co.uk - instead of putting in your dates, click on "Tickets & Offers" near the top, and do it on that page instead, for the cheap fares.
  • monkfishjoe #44 2 years ago

Is the fact there is a consumer event in the UK at all not not good enough for everyone complaining.

We're lucky there is an event of this quality anywhere in the UK.
  • john83 #45 2 years ago

to be honest i think this expo should be held in different places across europe, i mean there's no reason to call it euro expo if it's only ever held in britain, there's plenty of venues in scotland, ireland etc big enough to hold an expo.

So yeah don't be blaming people for whining, i think some of you people are forgetting that there's a recession going on, which means not everyone can afford to travel to be at the expo.
