GT5 discs "are being stamped" now

Yamauchi says so.

Gran Turismo 5 discs "are being stamped as we speak", game creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said.

However, he stopped short of revealing to Jalopnik a new date for the game's release.

So the question remains: 2010 or 2011? Can enough copies of Gran Turismo 5 be stamped to warrant a release this year?

Sony still thinks so, but industry sources told Eurogamer yesterday there's "not much hope" of the game arriving before 2011.

Time is slipping away. Will Sony risk a December launch for a years-in-the-making PS3 blockbuster?

Is it raining or shining in Yamauchi's world?

Congratulations, Polyphony. Let's hope that the world appreciates the effort you put in there.

(Goes without saying, really, doesn't it?)
  • kestral #2 2 years ago

Doesn't mean it can't get delayed though ;-)
  • Cappy #3 2 years ago

Nothing wrong with December launches. A few Zelda games, Ocarina of Time onwards launched mid December with no adverse effect on sales.
  • Ron_Justice #4 2 years ago

I'll believe it when I've got the game in my hands. Until then, it's as good as vapour ware.
  • jonsaan #5 2 years ago

If the marketing is right, it won't matter a jot when this is released. Quickly please Sony.
  • PixelPirate #6 2 years ago

If the discs are being stamped now, it will be on the shelves come December in major territories. (Read US and Jap). I am expecting a European delay due to getting it to all the different places in time though :'(

  • VP1398 #8 2 years ago

If the disks are being printed, we will surely have it by beginning of December, wait and see.

What happened to your "source" EG? I thought this was missing 2010. :p
  • Spekingur #14 2 years ago

Yes, let's trust the guy that has broken every release date given so far :/
  • mkreku #15 2 years ago

What release dates has he given?
  • ZizouFC #16 2 years ago

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why is a December release date bad? I mean with Christmas an everything. I don't know about everyone else but I have more disposable cash in December then any other time of the year.

Can't believe they actually finished the game. Bravo.

Now, I suspect the release date to be somewhere in the beginning of December, just about when I'm having my trip to the UK and knowing the game's ready and waiting back home after years of waiting for it.

Being stamped now...With the words 'Do not play until xmas 2012' I assume :-)
  • Stuz359 #22 2 years ago

I remember Ocarina of Time was released either 26th or 27th of December that year. Or am I dreaming?
  • wizlon #23 2 years ago

Discs are being stamped... I don't believe that for a second. If the progress of GT5 so far has anything to go by the disks are being hand etched individually by blind monks using the stingers of the rarest queen bee atop the highest peak of south east asia.
  • Max_Powers #24 2 years ago

    Stamped in anger

I think you might be dreaming; I got it as a Christmas present that year on the 25th.
  • Lee_Morris #26 2 years ago

EG's sources are incorrectly basically. There is no way Sony will delay the game into next year if they're pressing disks now. First week of December, believe

As a system seller, how many lost PS3 systems will even a December launch cost. We're not talking core gamers here, we're talking parents who buy bundles. No GT5 may mean lost sales to something else. Microsoft have put Forza 3 in their Xmas bundle for a reason. A lot of people have their Xmas shopping done by then, some even have it finished now (sad)

Zedfragg - That makes no sense (unless you don't want the game yet anyway?). Why would you wait a month just to avoid a "3 hour update". Surely if you actually wanted the game you could just buy it, update it, and then either play it later or the next day?
  • Redeye #31 2 years ago

I had an interesting response in mind about how Sony's windows for mastering and distribution have had to shift several times for GT5, thereby affecting other titles (which may well have included games from the big guns, for which they would have no doubt paid a lot of money for said processes); it also would have pointed out how that shift would have had to be offset against potential losses from other publishers/potential profits from GT5, and finished by positing the question whether SCE would, in business terms, still push for a global December release in the face of all that.

But then I thought "sod it, it'll only get negged to hell by rabid fanboys", and decided to go for a cuppa instead.

All this for a 7/10 game! Pretty, but still as dull as ditchwater.
  • joe90 #33 2 years ago

Quick.. i see i pig flying past my window..
  • drxym #34 2 years ago

LBP was delayed by 10 days due to a song that they thought might cause offence. Sony recalled LBP and managed to rebuild, QA, master and print new copies in 10 days flat. So the bare minimum from printing to release could be as little as 10 days. But in practice you want to have your campaign ready to roll, your suppliers in receipt of sufficient stock in the various editions and so forth so I expect in practice it would require at least 20 days to have everything lined up.

So I reckon it could be out for Christmas if Sony wished it to be but it would be cutting it fine.

It can't be that dull, people like you always feel inclined to comment. Only happens to the best of 'em.

I will give game I have not played 7/10
  • Widge #38 2 years ago

That review score was brought to you by the people who produced "I can review it by looking at the videos" and "based on my experience with Gran Turismo 4..."
  • BuddyChrist #39 2 years ago

The game has been delayed because a little Japanese man is stamping on the CDs.
  • gjgjg #40 2 years ago

It all depends on the general PS3 release schedule and when it can be slotted in... as its a 1st party they probably will squeeze it in
  • optimusprym8 #41 2 years ago

That's not a gesture of printing discs, that's squashing dreams
  • mcreddie #42 2 years ago

*The last disc is just about to be stamped*

Yamauchi - "WAIIIT! I just need to add one more thing!!! Scrap em all, i forgot to include a bruddy ford fiesta!!"

Its more to with track racing is far more popular, closely followed in europe than any other region. Although feeling slightly let down and the fact i should have been enjoying it in two days time, its nice to know that gt5 is finally on its way.
  • RobTheBuilder #44 2 years ago

As much as I'll be marked down for this, I have to say that though GT5 will sell loads; it will shift far less hardware (imeo) than it would have done 12/18 months ago.
  • Antaios #45 2 years ago

Makes sense though, doesn't it, with more PS3's out there now than there were then?
  • cherryuk #46 2 years ago

I'll get the disc and stamp it into the ground! – go on give me a (–) ;o)
  • mrStones #47 2 years ago

Defineatly agree that we shouldn't suffer for a american release date. Just give the yanks the high speed oval that'll keep em happy.

I'ma gonna drive forward, then i'ma gonna turn to the left for a bit, then i'ma gonna drive forward... and turn to the left
  • VP1398 #48 2 years ago

Was your statement a case of pure sour grapes?
  • Caimbeul #49 2 years ago

    Because Kazunori Yamauchi says so?
And where has believing him gotten us over the years?
  • rudedudejude #50 2 years ago

  • Beano #51 2 years ago

  • NotSoSlim #52 2 years ago

Work in progress was a old interview as the points he mentioned were talked about over 2 months ago.

Mayb Sony have said release the thing but get an update ready for launch day? Almost every games does that now unfortunately :(

Hopefully official confirmation after Black Ops as u still think that's why it's been delayed
  • SavageEvil #53 2 years ago

Omg, it never ceases...people still complaining. Your favorite game not keeping occupied? It's funny, people who don't like or want the game come here to complain, I don't understand that at all. Got people talking about shifting consoles and what not, meh seriously it's all about potential to move consoles and console bundles do just that considering that PS3 is slightly behind 360 in sales there is room for more people buy consoles. Anyways who cares about all that hullabaloo it's great that the game is close to being on store shelves.

As to the other idiot who thinks that Americans only like driving in ovals, Le Petit Le Mans, not much oval driving there. Ignorance isn't bad, but when you let other people know you are ignorant, well that's a different story :). Gamers should be the kind of people who accept others much more easily, considering we play online and have no idea what the other person looks like. But I have found that ignorance and prejudice still just as bad online too. This world still can't move forward with all the past that people still haven't learned from.

Sorry for the deluge but it's annoying to read such stupidity and not say anything about it.
  • sizusizu #54 2 years ago

Got to love how people here completely ignore the logistics of getting a game to the store shelves even once it is gold and in duplication.

I do question the news as surely Sony would announce the release date if indeed duplication was well under way and a Christmas launch was going to happen. Tough call really. Releasing it deep into December isn't ideal, and Blizzard have tied up week one with Cataclysm. Wrath sold 2.8m units day one, and there is no reason to believe that the new expansion will be any slower. GT5 is an important release for Sony, and a rushed launch could backfire.
  • IamTheElderScrolls #55 2 years ago

So its only 2 years now and we'll have it :)
  • CaptainKid #56 2 years ago

I'm confused. Happens a lot when reading news articles.
When a game goes gold (aka ready to be stamped) it usually takes only a few weeks before it hits the stores.

I still think the game does not exist.

  • ph0b0z #58 2 years ago

Why don't they release it in the PSN Store too.. THIS year.. if they can't manage to produce enough physical copies?
