Halo: Reach biggest US game of 2010
Doubled Halo 3: ODST's sales.
Halo: Reach is already the biggest-selling game in North America this year - bigger than Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy XIII, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Madden NFL 11.
Halo: Reach managed 3.29 million sales by the end of September (launched on 14th), according to a Gamasutra report. That's double what Halo 3: ODST mustered in the same period (1.52 million) but equal to Halo 3 (3.3 million) which, remember, sold to a smaller installed base in 2007.
Halo 3 went on to sell 4.7 million copies across North American by the end of 2007.
The US best-seller chart for the nine months of 2010 ended 30th September was topped by Halo: Reach. In second was New Super Mario Bros. Wii, third Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360, fourth Pokemon SoulSilver and fifth Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Wii Fit Plus was sixth, God of War III seventh, Modern Warfare 2 eighth, Just Dance ninth and Wii Sports Resort 10th.
Note that this is a single-platform chart. The two multiplatform games - Red Dead Redemption and Modern Warfare 2 - were represented on Xbox 360.
Unfortunately, the only multi-format chart provided by Gamasutra was September 2010 US sales, which Eurogamer covered last week.

Still, I'm sure no one buys games this late in the year and it's not as if there are any major releases comming out...

One can only imagine the sadness he felt when Bungie announced they would go multiplatform. Imagine: it would be like all the Sony first party developers going multiplatform at once. Poor Aaron!

It should read Halo: Reach one of the biggest US games of 2010
2010 is not over yet.
Black Ops will top this because its a multiplaform title not an exclusive like Halo.

People will still buy Halo games made by another developer. Aaron will be fine.

It's not hate, I've nothing for or against any of the games mentioned, it's the abuse of statistics (and the title) that bugs me. 2010 isn't close to being over, the biggest buying season is about to start and yet for reasons unknown someone's said that this game is the biggest game. I don't care if it is the biggest game of the year, wait until the year is finished and you have numbers before declaring the result.
It's like winning 2-1 with 20 minutes to go. You don't call it a victory until the whistle goes

Black ops will top it
Well Black ops will be available on 3 platforms, like Halo is also an established and hugely popular series, and has huge marketing behind it.
You would expect it to beat Halo Reach really with a larger market to sell to.
Personally I will be buying neither

Both titles well deserving of the asking price. Oh, and special mention to trials HD (which I discovered late).

Halo's always going to sell for MS - and outsell sonys IP's more than likely, just as COD will always sell for activision regardless of IW being behind it
