Fallout: New Vegas patches inbound

Bethesda working on them as we speak.

Bethesda has assured Fallout: New Vegas owners that it's working on patches and updates "as quickly as possible".

YouTube is awash with videos of various Fallout: New Vegas bugs – some that even freeze the game and force a restart.

"We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms," marketing man Pete Hines told Kotaku.

"Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming."

If you're suffering from a crazy head-turning bug and you own the PC version, Bethesda advises you re-verify your files on Steam. The kafuffle is due to a corrupt mesh file, apparently.

The developer acknowledged issues with the game in a blog post on its official site. The post has since been removed, but you can read it in its entirety here:

"Unless you've been stuck in a Vault, you probably know that Fallout: New Vegas released today. We're thrilled that so many people are enjoying the game, but we also realize there are a few issues that you guys have been reporting.

"We've had a number of folks contact us regarding the digital pre-order bonuses on PlayStation 3. This issue has now been resolved, and users should attempt to re-enter the codes to download their bonuses. If you still receive a '80023156' error, you'll need to wait 24 hours before entering the code again; at that point, you should be able to activate the bonus without issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.

"We're also aware that some of you are reporting gameplay issues. Rest assured, we've already got top our top folks looking into this. Just this afternoon, we've released an automatic update for the PC that resolves quest and scripting problems, as well as issues with Steam Cloud and saved games.

"In addition to those updates, we've also released the official G.E.C.K. editor for the PC version of Fallout: New Vegas. You can download it from the Fallout G.E.C.K. page. The editor will also be available on Steam shortly. And if you're in the mood to theme up your desktop, we've also rolled out some fresh New Vegas wallpapers.

"Last but not least, we're working hard on updates for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of New Vegas. As soon as we have more details to share on those, we'll let you know. In the meantime, we'll continue to keep an eye on issues that are reported within the community."

Fallout: New Vegas – out in the UK this Friday – is great. Dan Whitehead awarded it a stonking 9/10 for Eurogamer. The first 15 minutes in video form are below.
