Shinji Mikami explains Vanquish demo

Putting the content in context.

PlatinumGames' Shinji Mikami has gone into detail about the content of the Vanquish demo content released so far.

Writing on the studio's official website in English, Mikami explained that there have been two demos so far in Japan. The Velocity Attack demo was taken from the campaign mode, while Vanquish Challenge Mode Demo "is part of an unlockable extra mode".

"We called the stage used in Velocity Attack room number 110, and I have to admit that I forgot what the code name was for the challenge mode room," Mikami wrote. "(I have the habit of being the guy who forgets everything the minute development is over...)

"Room 110 is pretty much exactly as you will find it in the game. In the full version of Vanquish, you will have the opening cinematic (the destruction of San Francisco and the infiltration of the colony), as well as the initial entrance into the colony with its baptism by enemy fire.

"The stage used in the Vanquish Challenge Mode Demo is actually a map from the actual game, but the enemies that appear are completely different. (Wait until you see the enemy drill robot in the final game, it is awesome!) In the full version, you will get a boss fight pretty soon after this area, and I really love the cut-scene that you see at that point. It is quite cool."

Mikami said that the demo was intended to be playable over and over again, just like the full game, and that "you can expect a consistent level of quality to the very last bullet".

We'll find out one way or another next week. The game's due out for PS3 and Xbox 360 on 22nd October and you'll be able to read our review at 5pm on Tuesday.

In the meantime check out our Vanquish hands-on preview, Digital Foundry's PS3 vs. Xbox 360 demo showdown and the latest trailer below.

Quite looking forwards to this. Platinum Games havn't let us down yet.
And, you know, I managed to finish the demo in under five minutes (after some serious repetition. /continues to attempt to crush the first Sonic 4 level in under 45 seconds - currently at 53. All about the time trials!)

I was never one to replay something over and over again, it kinda makes me get bored of a game.

My logic around this is that if there's a game I like, after I finish it it stays in memory with fondness. If I play it again and again, it kills the magic for me in a way.

Example, Heavy Rain. Even though you can have multiple endings, I only played it once. Wonderful game! I'll probably do the same with Vanquish.

    That's just me though :)

    Really looking forward to this.

@ Powerslave: I mostly feel the same way - I rarely replay SP games and prefer to think back on them with fondness. But Bayonetta seemed to be a real exception for me. I've played/replayed that game over and over and never seem to get bored.

Not sure if Vanquish will be the same. I kind of hope not.

Ditto. Love the first demo - one of the few games apart from MGS2 and DMC3 that I could play over and over.

This game is going to surprise so many people... can't wait!

In the trailer, the ARS combat suit... titter!

I'm surprised it is so anticipated, as I found the demo to be a rather underwhelming experience. It played like a cross between Gears of War and Too Human and fell some where in between the two. I predict a review score of 7.

As mindless twitchy shootathons demo's go, i'm very impressed (though the dialogue is very cheesy as expected, but I can look past that..).

wanted to like it, not sure if i do...it seemed like the enemies rushed you too quick and the arena was too small to make proper use of the zoom around feature.

    Two words, Holy Shit.

When the demo clicked and I was zooming round boy oh boy did I get that familiar Japanese magic flush, can't wait for this

Predicted Quip for the Review: "We get our ARS in gear".

Really enjoyed the demo - sometimes it's just fun to disengage brain and hold down the trigger.

While the dialogue is cheesy it does give it a retro feel - I don't want Andy Serkis fully mo'capped trying to make me feel emotion - I want some poorly animated graphic from the 1980's telling me daft things in muddled English.

At first glance, I read that headline as "Shin Megami explains Vanquish demo" and got very confused.
