Duke Forever demo for "everybody"

Gearbox wants to "surprise" you.

Gearbox Software won't limit the Duke Nukem Forever demo to the Game of the Year Edition of Borderlands - everybody will get it.

"The demo is going to go out to everybody, yeah," Gearbox's marketeer Steve Gibson told Digital Spy.

"When we put Borderlands out this wasn't even possible to do or contemplate. So that's kind of difficult, but yeah, the demo is coming out for everybody.

Gibson reckons this sort of talk convinces people that Duke Nukem Forever is finally real. "We want people to know that, 'Holy crap, they're actually making plans!'" he said.

"These guys are making concrete plans, they're are putting stuff in a box already with Duke's face on it. It's actually like a certificate, and you'll see that it's like 'In Duke We Trust'. It's fun. We're thrilled to death."

Gibson said people will be "surprised" by the demo "at what we put in there and what happens with it". However, he's not going to "spoil the surprise" just yet.

The demo has no date, but the Game of the Year Edition of Borderlands will be released on Friday.

Yeah that is unusual problem for the marketing department.

Convincing the world that a high profile game really exists and isn't some great hoax.

I still won't fully believe it's real until I'm playing the full game.

Mega excited for my first taste of Duke Nukem Forever. Hopefully the demo isn't too far off. It would be a big confidence booster for fans to have something to play after all this time.

    This is good news.

    Need to get out more.

I can imagine the playable demo will probably be the live demo that was shown at GDC, so get ready for marker-pen action!

The demo will display a splash screen saying "SIKE!", then delete itself.

    Surprise everybody!

Um I'm confused - so the vouchers going in BL:GOTY are redundant? Or are those just so people can have a piece of paper with Duke Nukems face on in their hands to reassure them of its tangibility?

And "They're are"? Randy Pitchford isn't the only one who should be interested in "proof".

Ged42: Honestly, I'm not sure I'll believe it even when playing it. I'll probably think I'm dreaming and decide to do something stupid, killing my self in the process... :p

A duke nukem game from the people who made Borderlands. Still cant get my head around how lucky we are.......

Technically, they didn't make it ... they just finished it !

Is this the demo with the big robot fight, pissing in the toilet section and blow jobs at the end? It was leaked a week or so ago? The camera pulls out at the end of the demo and you are yourself playing the game whilst getting sucked off by two women. Real classy stuff :)

Damn! I carry around a Duke Nukem disc case around with me. When I open it and see a disc inside, I know I'm dreaming, Inception-style.

    Always bet on Duke

I don't believe it... it's just not going to happen

Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff.
    Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, Duke Nukem Forever being released... mass hysteria!

@jeje21 For the man who is too lazy to go to a shop, or even a bona fide website, and purchases everything via unsolicited spam on gaming sites...

I'm curious, do you get paid per post? I'm 110% certain you get fuck all via click thrus.

Also, if I wanted to buy cheap and/or illegal tat, I'd get it from someone on my own continent. I've ordered games and eBay stuff from the US and paid half the value of the item as duty.

Fuck off and die horribly. Drown in your own shit while is suffuses your clawed and brutalised eye sockets.

    Please.

    @Moribundman

I dont know whether i want to applaud you for going at the asshat or slap you for actually responding to that crap.

It's not Duke Nukem Forever if you start work on it and then 6 months later there's a demo.
  • cw- #17 2 years ago

    @Moribundman / @roquey

    Is it not a bot?
  • Moribundman #18 2 years ago

@cw- Yep it is but I'm hoping the mods note my righteous fury... ;-)

Jesus, these things have been bad enough on CVG but EG don't have a "report" button... Have ignored...
  • Centrifugal #19 2 years ago

Even after I've played the demo, I still won't believe it exists until I hold the box in my hand. And even then I'll be expecting a rick roll to play when I put the disk in my 360.
  • kongzi #20 2 years ago

So they basically got the game from 3d realms in a nearly finished state? The way they're talking it's almost ready to be released. I hope they didn't just slap what was there on a disc, like proper QA and stuff.... people don't expect it to be the most cutting edge game out there, but an unfinished Duke is unforgivable.
