No Minerva's Den for PC BioShock 2

Protector Trials scrapped too.

PC BioShock 2 users will not get to play the recent Minerva's Den DLC expansion, or the Protector Trials pack, 2K Marin has announced.

In a post on the 2K forums, a spokesperson for the studio said, "We will not be offering Protector Trials and Minerva's Den on the PC in the future – and I want to say that I'm sorry for the disappointment this will cause to PC players out there."

Vague "timing and technical issues" were the only excuses offered.

The bad news doesn't end there. "We will not be adding vending machine sounds into any version of BioShock 2 and we will not be adding playlists for the multiplayer DLC maps," the post goes on to explain.

"We are planning patches for the 360 and PS3 to fix some functionality issues, but they will not drastically change gameplay."

Minerva's Den launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 last month, with Protector's Trials arriving back in August.

Looks like PC gamers' next BioShock fix will be BioShock Infinite, due some time in 2012.

grrrrr How much harder can it reallly be! Iwas really looking forwards to this but i guess the PC Markets just not worth the time and effort to do a job properly.

    HATE YOU!!

    (sniff)

okay, you've said it, and theres no going back. Youve treated us real unfair! It hurts. Were not happy but most of us are grown up enough to go on living day by day, but if your reading this i think you at least owe us an explanation. An honest one for dumping us like that.

Those filthy pirates, now they even stole 2ks greed, so that they refuse to take PC owners money!

'Timing' and 'technical issues' to me translate as 'can't be bothered' and 'why the shit did we put this thing on Games for Windows Live?'.

This was quite possibly the first paid for DLC in the history of this stuff that I was actually interested in buying. Guess I'll be giving my flower to another publisher. But don't worry 2K, I won't be telling everyone that you can't get it up.

I reinstalled BS 2 just for Minerva's Den.

What a waste of my time and expectations

2K...you'll have to fight much harder for my money next time. No Day 1 purchases.

This is depressing really... I loved Bioshock 2 and in some ways, I loved it even more than the original, due to the improved gameplay as a Bid Daddy and the bond between you and one the characters, but from hence forth, I have to seriously consider if I'll ever purchase another game from 2K to PC; Honestly... :\
  • dsmx #9 2 years ago

Or PC players aren't willing to pay for content that 10 years ago would of been free and done as a way of saying thanks for buying the game.
  • Markitron #10 2 years ago

Shame, minervas den was pretty good

"Or PC players aren't willing to pay for content that 10 years ago would of been free and done as a way of saying thanks for buying the game."

Still done now, Valve may be dangling its scrotum into the pirahna-filled waters of the PS3 but they tend to give their maps out for free. Various other games also update with free maps. They range from meh to awesome, so consistant quality has always been a question mark over its head but that said, free.

I don't mind DLC as long as it isn't milking it and as long as everyone gets a fair shot at it. 2K fails on both counts, so I say to them... "Would you kindly kiss my ass?"
  • BBIAJ #12 2 years ago

I haven't played this yet, so what's this about not adding in vending machine sounds?

Are they supposed to make noises, but for some reason, presumably a bug or missing sound file, they're silent, or what?

If so, then that's pretty sloppy, and admitting that you're not going to be fixing it just sounds like they can't be asked to me to be honest, it's like they've got our money now, so naff off.

    Hmph...
  • M4RV #13 2 years ago

    @BBIAJ:

There are no sound clips whatsoever for the vending machines... The game upon release, despite awesome IMHO, was a glorified BETA; The original Bioshock actually looks a lot BETTER nowadays than the sequel, believe it or not.

Is GFWL responsible for the lack of DLC? I mean let's face it, nobody buys digital downloads for PC through MS, and I can't see them doing a disk release.
  • Hyoscine #15 2 years ago

FFS. This, coupled with jumping through GFWL's bullshit hoops, might have made for my most disappointing purchase ever. Fuck you, whoever was involved with this.
  • TheTingler #16 2 years ago

What sort of technical f***ing issues could there be? If Fallout 3 can use GFWL to integrate masses of new content right into the current gigantic game, 2K can make a totally separate add-on pack. I am exceptionally angry for not even bothering to release a patch, something every other developer has no problem with them.

This is simple laziness, or they'd decided that no one gave a s**t about Bioshock 2 by this point and they certainly wouldn't jump through Games For Windows Live to get it. Which is probably more understandable, but that's their own f***ing problem. They're the idiots that stubbornly stuck with GFWL, and now it's costing both them and us.

Fs I'm never gonna get to play the dlc maps am I. How hard can it be just to make a dlc map playlist for the poor sods like me that you know, would like to play what they brought.
    Shocking....

  • trooperdx3117 #21 2 years ago

I dont understand this, surely when you making a game for Xbox or PS3 all the code etc is written up on a PC, so how bloody hard is it to transfer all the stuff from the console back to the PC!

2K again show you how much of a class act they are.

Folks, started an email campaign, LOTS of people have sent this in, let's start adding some pressure! You can send an email (or copy and paste and sign your name to the message below) to meg.maise@take2games.com (head of corporate communications and investor relations) - we're not as powerless as you think! AND PLEASE FORWARD THIS ON AND GET MORE PEOPLE TO SEND HER EMAILS!

*************************start copy and paste below (don't forget to sign your name)**************

    Dear Meg,

As a Bioshock 2 customer, I am outraged that 2K has decided to not release additional DLC content for the PC (namely Minerva's Den).

I find this upsetting for several reasons:

    1) In 2K's original announcement for Minerva's Den, 2K stated that a PC release was forthcoming - to backtrack on a statement like that constitutes a broken promise and hurts 2K's overall credibility and public image for all users.

    2) More importantly, by your actions you're telling the PC market that we don't matter. If this is truly how 2K Games feels, then just come out and say so. As PC users we'll simply make sure not to purchase your games if we're to be treated as second-class citizens. And as much as we like the Bioshock universe, you should already start cutting back your projections for Bioshock Infinite if this is the half-hearted support you intend to provide for that title as well.

I do not know what sort of flawed cost / benefit analysis went into your decision-making process, but based on the anger and the number of responses I've seen in comments posted on numerous websites (including 2K Forums), I think you are being short-sighted in thinking that a PC release would not be worth the time or effort. I have read the extremely positive reviews for Minerva's Den and would have even prepaid for the DLC if 2K needed to guarantee a certain level of downloads to ensure profitability. Instead 2K has hurt its own image by handling this issue in such a haphazard fashion.

I urge you to reconsider your decision and rebuild your trust with your customers - they're your ultimate stakeholders, not the shareholders, and will decide the ultimate success of Take Two Interactive as a company.

    Best Regards,
    [Your Name]

I can see why Ken and his merry men went back to being Irrational. Between this kind of happy horseshit and the appalling mess they made of Mafia 2 and its DLC gouging, 2K may soon have to rename themselves Cuntware or Wankersoft.
