POP Trilogy an EU PS3 exclusive

HD and 3D collection formally announced.

The long-rumoured Prince of Persia Trilogy is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and will only be released in Europe, Ubisoft has announced.

The collection brings together PlayStation 2 games Prince of Persia The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia Warrior Within and Prince of Persia The Two Thrones on a single Blu-ray disc.

The games are the same, but with fully remastered 720p high definition graphics and stereoscopic 3D output.

There are new textures, normal maps and anti-aliasing to sink your eyeballs into.

It'll be released on 19th November with an RRP of £29.99. Ubisoft reckons you're getting a total of over 30 hours of gameplay for your money. Fancy new screens are below.

Eurogamer was alive in 2003 when Sands of Time was released. Tom gave it a whopping 9/10 in his review.

"HD and 3D collection formerly announced."

I can only assume this has now become an in-joke of sorts.

EDIT: Oh no wait, they changed it. Learn to spell!

    Is there trophies?

With writing of this calibre it shouldn't be long until Wesley is formerly an EG writer.
  • McFly55 #7 2 years ago

Sweet! Never got a chance to play these first time round!
  • kosigan #8 2 years ago

    @BAM!
You mean "formally an EG writer", surely? :)
  • Der_tolle_Emil #9 2 years ago

Aw, I was hoping it would come for the 360 as well; Too bad. Well at least the cube version is still working on my Wii.

    Wow, don't like money?
  • ocmerius #11 2 years ago

Weird, sounds like a very bad bussiness decision. I mean, I would have bought it.

Doesn't surprise me at all. After all, Sands of Time was a time-exclusive PS2 in Europe at launch, along with Beyond Good and Evil, while both titles launched on all three formats in the US simultaneously. History has a habit to repeat itself.

Are there trophies you mean. Yes there will be, as all ps3 releases have to have trophies. I don't think it's been announced if we are getting 3 sets of trophies like The Sly Collection. By the way, I wish Sony would date that game.

Woah... good value... and a nice push on the 3D front. Well good value IF you have a PS3... otherwise quite expensive.

Its deals like this which will slowly whittle away at the will of non-PS3 owners - that will be Sony's plan.

360 only owners... software costs vastly outweigh hardware costs over the lifetime of your console... give in! Its getting close to Christmas. You deserve to treat yourself :)

PS3 only owners... New TV's can last several console generations... maybe make that investement in 3D now... give in! Its getting close to Christmas. You deserve to treat yourself :)

Pleased to see it carved in, locked down, shackled in to being, and "Confirmed!", that this is happening.

    * Looks ** rubbing eyes ** looks again*
europe gets an exclusive? is hell frozen over? have pigs mastered flight?

seriously though how much i loved the sands trilogy, i was kinda hoping on a sequel to PoP 2008
i mean the story had sequel screaming from every frame.

EU exclusive?? well that's a first and oh yay! just looking at screens of the Sands of Time injects enormous amounts of joy.... ah the magical moments of a truly GREAT game!

He still looks like Robert Pirez.

I wouldnt be shocked if the splinter cell collection ended up bein a 360 exclusive, the original was a timed xbox exclusive wasnt it?
  • Beano #20 2 years ago

Maybe the PS3 exclusivity is partially because the thee games would not fit on a single DVD and the release would be more expensive on 360 ?
  • paulf #21 2 years ago

sands of time is brilliant, not so sure about the other two
  • Cappy #22 2 years ago

Interesting, this is actually the second time Ubisoft have done this.

They released an EU only box set in a similar package to Konami's Silent Hill PS2 collection. (EU only too), the same three games but for the PS2 a few years ago.

Maybe the Prince of Persia series sells especially well in the EU.

    @Biker_Bob: You obviously haven't had an 360 I gather?

Yeah I do... I have both and love them both dearly like my own children.

I was just making the comment that Sony will hope to use this to draw in more 360 owners... as THAT IS THE POINT of exclusives.

I think I am being negged by folks not really "getting" my previous post... all I was saying is that whatever you do the videogames industry will be trying to get you to spend more money.

If you "only have" a 360 (no bad thing!) a move like this is designed to make you want to buy a PS3. And if you have a PS3 the "adding 3D support" is designed to make you buy a 3D telly.

So yeah... if you have a 360 this is an expensive buy as you have to buty a PS3. If you already have a PS3 it may be an expensive buy as more temptation to get a 3D telly.

Apart from that 3 games remastered in HD is a pretty good for 30 quid.

If console exclusivity wasn't bad enough, exclusivity by region is really the mother of all things rubbish.

For me personally it means I can get rid of even more PS2 games though, I have the trilogy and have only played SoT yet.

    First day buy. Yay!
  • randompanda #28 2 years ago

    Region Free though surely?

TSB - I see plenty of people complaining here that Sony have an exclusive, you could have at least read the comments before posting rubbish like that.
  • dominalien #29 2 years ago

    I played all of them.

    I will play them again.
  • GamesProgrammer Verified Games Team Programmer, Eutechnyx Ltd. #30 2 years ago

All PS3 games are region free though so its not really a barrier just a tad inconvenient, i eventually imported demons souls after thinking it would never come out in Europe.
  • makeamazing #31 2 years ago

I have played none, so will add it to the list of things to get :)
  • IkariW #32 2 years ago

Oh man, we're getting as bad as Hollywood with recycling our old IP. :(

Forget old games, concentrate on the new!
  • NimbusTLD #33 2 years ago

I wish they'd make them run at true 1080p :/ I will probably pick this up anyways, never played WW or TT (wow, never noticed the aliteration!)
  • Ashcroft #34 2 years ago

Hopefully they decide not to buy the licensed music for Warrior Within again. And take out all the terrible fighting dialogue.

And the bugs that destroy the game.
