GTA IV: Complete Edition out this month

US retailers point to $40 bundle.

Rockstar has decided to bundle up the Grand Theft Auto IV family into a special edition compilation due out in the States at the end of this month.

The GTA IV: Complete Edition consists of the original game plus the Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony expansions, and will cost $39.99.

It's due out on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 26th October in the US.

We've contacted Rockstar in the UK to find out whether we're getting it here, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of it on UK retailers' websites despite its appearance on Amazon.com.

GTA IV was released in April 2008, scored 10/10 in its Eurogamer review, and remains the second biggest game launch in UK chart history.

The Lost and Damned followed in February 2009 and picked up 8/10, with Gay Tony doing likewise that November.

The two add-on episodes were originally Xbox 360 exclusives but ultimately also appeared on PC and PS3. Rockstar also bundled them up into an Episodes from Liberty City package.

They did the same with the GTA III titles. They bundled GTA III, VC & SA into one pack.

It was more for the North American market than anywhere, I think it only had a low key launch ( if any) over here.

These ultimate editions are extremly annoying for all the faithful who bought the game when it first came out. If this starts happening too often, are sales of first editions going to start droping as people wait for the final complete versions? Dangerous ground if you ask me.

The only good thing I see about these ults is the lower then usual asking price. The Dragon Age ultimate edition is £30 on Amazon. Maybe if they start launching the first editions at a lower price, it'll start looking fairer.

    TheDellBingo is spot on.

If people really want, and are willing, to wait 2 years for a "complete edition" then they were hardly the target audience of any particular game as they obviously didn't want it that much anyway.

And if anyone thinks the original GTA IV wasn't "complete" anyway, as it was a pretty huge game, and can't see the difference between a game release and expansions, then they probably have bigger problems to worry about.

kinda glad I waited.... maybe... I'm undecided still. Really wanted to play TBOGT though so may pick this up if the price is right.

I think with DLC being so easy to bolt onto titles that this is going to become more and more common. In the past it was usually the big release of the year, something like an Elder Scrolls game, that would get a special edition like this. Now anything that has a whiff of a post release addon gets a GOTY style edition later.

Starting to feel a bit worthless buying some games on release, I can't stand DLC. You see the scraps that get served up on here and they dribble in with 6's and are quite expensive. I find that, when included in a full game, the DLC is just right. Outside as a standalone it feels like a brief splurt of a gameplay experience.

There are exceptions to the rule of course.

@sailesh You were interested but you still haven't played ANY of them?! Or are you just talking about the eps?

"Starting to feel a bit worthless buying some games on release, I can't stand DLC."

Amen. DLC and Game of The Year/complete Editions do nothing but show you buying at full price at launch is lunacy.

Despite my launch game buying being practically non-existent I've bought 4 at launch/pre order this year as there hasn't been much to buy for me. K&L2 and Mafia 2 were 2 of those and the speed at which DLC hit for them not only made me resent the full price I paid it also turned me off buying at launch in the future. I'm picking up FO3 GOTY soon to give it a 2nd chance but if I do get on with it this time I sure won't touch New Vegas until all the DLC is out (if any) and a GOTY is released.

Interstingly one possible answer for all these GOTY editions (although I doubt that's the case for the amazing GTA Episodes) is no one actually buys DLC in reality. NPD did a survey recently and only 6% of the people surveyed buy DLC.

This is an amazing deal, if you don't have the game pick it up, the game is great, the DLC is even better. Multiplayer is non-existent, but that's not the point.

@Widge This game is the exception, both DLC packs give you a fully-fledged story with clever links to the main game, both packs also give you improvements over the original game, in different ways.

Agreed, if you ever get expansion packs for any game, this is it.

Not complete. GTA Rothbury isn't in there.

@Moribundman - I have played GTA4 but on my old console (PS3) and that was when it came out. Kinda been itching to play it again recently and this could be the clincher.
