PC Medal of Honor open beta live

No keys needed.

PC gamers today have the opportunity to try out the multiplayer portion of controversial shooter Medal of Honor for free with an open beta.

You can download the client from the official site now.

The open beta runs until 7th October, and will shut down at 11.59 PDT, or 8am BST.

On Friday EA announced it had renamed the Taliban faction from MOH's DICE-developed multiplayer to Opposing Force after negative feedback from soldiers and their families.

The last minute PC open beta was organised to "clear up any misunderstanding" about the Afghanistan setting of the modern war game, EA said.

Tom went hands-on with MOH's multiplayer last month. The game's out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 15th October.

Don't trouble yourself with it. It's like a watered down BC2; with all the good bits removed.

Steam has the beta, but it's on a timer. 8 hours until they unlock it. So, you better head to other links to get the client if you want to play it now.

Hopefully they fixed the pad this time, couldn't be arsed messing with the K&M on the first beta as I want this on the big screen so just deleted it.

Hey, I wonder how our troops in Afghanistan are doing against those opposing forces.
  • Shikasama #7 2 years ago

schnide - Our troops in Afghanistan aren't in this game. Americans only.

Just gave it a blast. Very nice graphics and smooth considering it's online. This was compared to BFBC2. However, EA have decided to take the servers down due to "technical issue" on the 1st day of beta....Great job!!!!!

    @Shikasama

I know, I never said they were. I was illustrating the point that it's a bit silly to refer to the Taliban as opposing forces. In the age-old words of Digitiser.. do you see? :)

This is a lot of fun but the servers are in a real mess at the moment, I'd suggest giving them at least 2-4 hours or picking it up again tomorrow when things should be smoother!

Played this at the Expo (PS3 version), and the teams were called "Coalition" and "Insurgents" ... is this what's being changed?
  • chessboxer #12 2 years ago

I've managed to get about 8 mins of game time but over 20 disconnects. Hopefully the servers will be sorted soon.
  • JJrabbit #13 2 years ago

Yup, still fixing servers. I managed to get a minute of gameplay before servers were taken down.
  • Quixz #14 2 years ago

You guys are playing already? My steam is tell me the game will go live in 2 hours time.
  • JJrabbit #15 2 years ago

@Quixz - I just downloaded the non-steam version linked from the article (from AMD servers). Managed to play a bit and I suck at it lol. Barely see the enemy, then I die...
  • Quixz #16 2 years ago

@JJrabbit thanks m8, downloading it now. Thank you high speed internetz!

I hate Bad Company 2 online because everyone is better than me and therefore it's no fun whatsoever.

This seemed a little bit more forgiving. Whether that's because there are fewer people playing, only time will tell...

It reminds me of MW2, as I'm sure it's meant to - irritating killstreaks (except with a different name), weapon customisation, annoyingly tiny maps, underpowered weapons, realism needlessly sacrificed for the sake of balance and flashiness, lag issues leading to countless "but I was in cover, dammit" deaths.

Negative as that sounds, It's fun, but it's not what I'd call challenging. There's no way I'll be paying for it. The sooner this fashion for locking half the game away from you behind meaningless ranks gets retired, the better. I got a bit bored with the few weapons available to lower-level players, but of the unlocks, only the shotguns were actually worth it. The rifles are superior to the MGs and the semi-auto snipers are much more versatile than the bolt actions. MoH does at least seem to consistently deliver satisfying shotguns.
