Earn Fable III currency in phone app

Kingmaker launching on Friday.

Microsoft and Lionhead are launching a Fable III viral game for smartphones called Kingmaker this Friday, 1st October, and the rewards will be usable in Fable III.

That's according to an advert in the latest Xbox World magazine (thanks CVG) and the official website for Fable III Kingmaker.

The ad text explained that the tyrant king's Royals and the revolutionary Rebels are fighting for control of Albion and that the battle "has spilled onto the wretched streets of Great Britain!"

It sounds as though you will use a smartphone app to plant virtual flags and claim power-ups in real-world locations. These acts will earn gold coins which can be transferred into Fable III when it launches in late October on Xbox 360.

Those of you attending the Eurogamer Expo this Friday will be able to hear Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux discussing Fable III in our keynote address at 12pm. It's going to be an interesting show!

    Wonder if this will be on Win 7 phones only?

    Great idea. Would have been great if they had implemented a similar thing with the Fable 2 pub games! Earning bonuses and money on the go!

    This might actually work on Windows phones. Most of the time when people produce things like this it's for iPhone and Android. Sounds mostly like Four Square really.

    @towser: I would expect that it wouldn't be Windows Phone 7 only, seeing as how that isn't out yet. Presumably the game is to get a bit of Fable hype going, so they'd be releasing sooner than WP7.

    @Toothball - Oh yeah. Doh! :-)

    I'm sure there will be an iPhone version - or at least there better be! :-)

    I'm sure some saddo will obsessively waste their own time and money going to each one.

    Unlikely? They should tie it in with an achievement, that'll do it.

    And put one of the locations in Sumburgh in Shetland. And another in the middle of Harlesden.

    Will it work in Europe or only Britain?

    Mainland Great Britain only I'd say.

    Great idea, even better than pub games. Oh.....
  • Peew971 #10 2 years ago

    I loved the Pub Games, I would have prefered more of that.

    Earning currency before the game was released (Fable 2), then importing it, killed my first playthrough and became tediously boring and easy to get what I wanted.

    Even if I could get this, I wouldn't. I wish I hadn't bothered last time, I won't bother this time.

    Might get this if they release a free blackberry version, but otherwise I'd rather start from scratch... It wasn't exactly hard to build up your cash in Fable II!

    And so the games begin...

    How soon until we get announcements about free exclusive DLC for people who pre-order from certain retailers?
  • darc #15 2 years ago

    I dig Molyneaux and the Fable franchise, but personally I think these semi-integrated minigames (which we saw as DLC prior to F2) cheapen the games. If you can change the arc of your character development by fiddling with your f'ing smartphone, then said arc must not be terribly important to the game designers. Ergo, cheap.

    Once Mrs Retroid gets wind of this my iPod Touch is doomed :(

    @Retroid

    They come with a warrenty no?

    Depends on the price tbh, if its around £3 i may get it anymore i wont, theres plenty of little gems on the Android marketplace for under £3 so anymore than that is taking the piss imo.
