Kane & Lynch film loses director

Unlikely to enter production before Q1.

The Kane & Lynch film adaptation is currently without a director and there's no word on when production will begin, one of the companies financing it has said.

According to the LA Times, Patrick Alessandrin was set to direct and production to begin next month, but now producers are scrabbling around for a new director and production may not begin until Q1 2011.

A spokesperson for Millennium, one of the companies putting up the money, then told the LA Times "the director has not been chosen" and that a "start date is TBD".

Previously we had heard that Bruce Willis was in line to play Kane, and the LA Times added that Jamie Foxx was on board to play loopy old Lynch.

Directors in the frame now apparently include Wayne Kramer, F. Gary Gray and Antoine Fuqua.

The second Kane & Lynch game, Dog Days, launched in August and topped the UK chart despite mixed reviews.

I'll eat my hat if those two (high profile and expensive) actors eventually star in this. If it ever gets made.

Kane & Lynch film loses director...

... world breathes sigh of relief.

Thank God. Hopefully whoever they get to replace him will also see sense to replace Jamie Foxx with someone who actually looks like Lynch. Mickey Rourke would be a good choice.

Drop the film. Why make a movie out of a crap game franchise. K&L2 is seriously the worst experience ive had with a game ever. Finally completeing the game on the hardest difficulty in coop realising only the host gets game completion and hard completion achievments is beyond infuriating.

Kevin Gage (Waingro from Heat) should play Lynch. Seeing as how Lynch seems to be a carbon copy of this character anyway.

Jaime Foxx is a massive tit. Listening to any of his music will tell you that, and as such I propose the EG (and all other participating media companies) refer to Mr 'Foxx' by his normal, boring, tittish real name. Which is Eric Bishop.

    I fucking hate Eric Bishop.

Hopefully they'll now lose the screenplay writer and Jamie Foxx as well if we're lucky. I think he's a good actor but totally wrong for the part, like if they cast Zack Effron to play Charles Bronson. And the plot about them both having to SAVE THE WORLD is total arse.

    Dear Hollywood,

Please stop making the Kane and Lynch film as it is probably the game that in my opinion is most undeserving of a film or any further media being associated with it. It needs to be buried in the deepest darkest hole on Earth and never spoken of again. A truly awful, awful game.

There's no way this film was going into full production (i.e. they were starting principal photography) next month if they couldn't even confirm who its stars were going to be.

And as for putting it back to early next year - guys like Willis and Foxx are probably booked up for the next few years. Miss their availability window now, and you've maybe missed them for good.

This story just reeks of BS.

I'm almost convinced now that someone, somwehere is making lots of money from initiating/announcing game->movies in full knowledge that they will never see the light of day.

I dunno... Wayne Kramer directing, Willis as Kane, Waingro as Lynch....that could be a pretty cool movie IMO. The games would still be shit, though. But good games usually make crap movies, a shit game gives more license to run with the characters instead of rehashing a weak plot from the game.
