Star Wars MMO gets a million users

Clone Wars Adventures off to a flyer.

Sony Online Entertainment's free-to-play Star Wars MMO, Clone Wars Adventures, has secured an impressive one million subscribers in its first week.

The game, based on the popular Cartoon Network animated series, went live on 15th September.

Sony marked the sales milestone by gifting every user a limited edition Golden Mouse Droid pet. There will also be a celebratory community party hosted on 24th September starting at 10.00am GMT.

For those unaccustomed to its family-friendly ways, Clone Wars Adventures allows users to indulge in various Star Wars-themed mini-games, including starfighter combat, speeder bike racing and droid programming puzzles. The launch trailer provides a few more details.

Those who prefer a little more RPG meat on their MMO bones might like to hold out for BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic, due on PC early next year.

Somehow I don't think this MMO is aimed at the Eurogamer readers.
Looks pretty fun though... For about 5 minutes but it's always nice to hear a game doing well which makes a change.

I'd never even heard of this game until now!
Edit: Just checked it out, it's seems to be a platform for selling pixels to young children, and not much else.

Shows just how much trouble wow could be in when Old Republic opens. Been playing WOW since my mage first had invis in beta :p So don't peg me as a hater, its just that I KNOW the game inside out and they are doing a piss poor job of holding my attention with all the classes being meshed together, why bother playing if every class has identical mechanics?

Okay, so I was going to try it out but lo and behold their registration site seems to be in a mess. No matter which browser I try I can't get past the EULA since the css stylesheet doesn't seem to be working properly - no background colour, font is not the same as front page, no checkbox for agreeing to EULA and, strangely enough, every time I try to get on to the website I am automatically directed to the EULA agreement page rather than the front page. Don't see any forums with the game either so reporting this error is a bit of a hassle. Well done!
