MOH beta to "clear up misunderstanding"

"About patriotism and respect."

EA has organised a last minute PC open beta for Medal of Honor to "clear up any misunderstanding" about the Afghanistan setting of the modern war game.

Just last week, EA beat off accusations about manipulating a topic - a very sensitive one - to shift games. Executive producer Greg Goodrich explained that MOH was "not about the Taliban or Al-Qaeda" but about honoring the soldiers that fought them. Even Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch jumped to its rival series' defence.

Doors will open to the Medal of Honor PC beta on 4th October, and close again on 7th October (middle-of-the-night 8th October here in Europe).

"We hope that by offering the multiplayer open beta, we can clear up any misunderstanding about the patriotism and respect that are the foundation of this game," commented EA Games boss Frank Gibeau. "The Medal of Honor franchise has always shown extraordinary reverence for American and Allied soldiers - this game is no exception."

The PC MOH beta contains two maps: Kunar Base, a Selector Control map, and Shahikot Mountains, a Combat Mission map. Both are scenarios for two teams of 12 players.

Medal of Honor will be released for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 15th October.

You can play the game even earlier at the Eurogamer Expo 2010, along with just about every other game you can imagine. That event takes place at Earl's Court in London from 1st to 3rd October.

Eurogamer tested the Medal of Honor single-player campaign earlier this month, and then sat down executive producer Greg Goodrich for a chat.

Oh Tiery me.

"the patriotism and respect that are the foundation of this game"

Well, that's my interest gone then.
  • ndbsolar #2 2 years ago

Yeah because Liam fox will play it and see that he was wrong all along...

Ditto. I don't feel patriotic or reverent towards our soldiers, I mean I don't want to be harsh, but it's a career choice. They're not conscripts. These kind of statements make me feel a bit alienated.

Couldnt care less about the "Patriotism" or "Misunderstandings". I am checking out the Beta purely to see if there is any significant improvement over the last Beta.

"We hope that by offering the multiplayer open beta, we can clear up any misunderstanding about the headline-grabbing and crassness that are the foundation of this game," commented EA Games boss Frank Gibeau. "The Medal of Honor franchise has always shown extraordinary reverence for dollars and EA share value - this game is no exception."

Nice one sided trailer(!). Patriotism my arse, more like "lets all shoot up Taliban or anyone who could remotely look like them"
    -.-

What nonsense. The non-American allies are almost always given bit parts in pretty much every MoH game. It would be nice if this WAS an exception, but as has been stated by EA before (in response to the "un-British" fiasco), British soldiers don't feature in this game.

AMERICAAAAAAAA FUCK YEAH! HERE TO SAVE THE MUTHAFUCKIN' DAY!
  • BabyJesus #9 2 years ago

@Dreaded They'll respect Allied Soldiers in true to life US Army fashion. By killing them in friendly fire incidents.

After all the controversy surrounding this bloody thing it had BETTER turn out brilliant. They're gonna be a laughing stock, otherwise.

Taliban feature in the game, and they have to release assuring statements and try to justify their doings.

Other games have been using them for years though, only their name is dodged by calling them "terrorist forces" or something of that nature. At-least they are not patronising us, and telling us like it is.

    Patriotism sucks.
  • schnide #13 2 years ago

I still want this to be good, and have a lot of faith that it will be. If you renamed it Call Of Duty: Raghead Edition then you'd suddenly find a lot people loving the arse off it and selling their grandmothers to Bin Laden for a pre-order.

Can we please keep everything correct in these stories.

'Honouring the AMERICAN troops that fought them'

Skandalle: "Taliban feature in the game, and they have to release assuring statements and try to justify their doings. "

WHY? Why are they releasing those, taking any notice of the wishes of people who want to encroach on the effectiveness of their legitimite business, to produce videogames? Why do they put the soapbox out, right and ready, poised for somebody else to hop on to at whim, to make self-serving oft-ignorant complaints at their convenience.

@EugenesLair @hoster Are you saying you don't support our lads? The job that our heroes do in trafficking heroin is difficult and dangerous.

I watch the trailer, but it doesn't explain why I might want to be this "Tier1", on day one. It also, doesn't really tell me, why I should want to be fired up to play this, either. Something, less... Cookie-cutter would have been nice, perhaps.
At first, I though MoH would be a big deal, but then, I saw a demo being given by the makers, and a lot of that was lost. Now, I see trailers, in which it looks as if they aim to survive on hype, alone - is much amassed.

Good work EA - keep stoking the fire of free publicity.
  • Spekingur #20 2 years ago

Freedom is better than patriotism. If being a patriot means that I should give up some of the rights of freedom then no thanks.
  • SteveHolt #21 2 years ago

Since even the multiplayer is all about patriotism, I guess the beta should feature a "capture the flag" mode. That would clear up all misunderstandings, and then some.
  • madjim #22 2 years ago

I still dont get what patriotism has to do with fighting somebody thousands miles away from your country.
  • ghiest #23 2 years ago

Shame it plays worse than both BC2 and Mw2
  • SAMagic #24 2 years ago

@madjim : Delirious proof of one's zeal for ones country.
  • Iain815 #25 2 years ago

Pfft, when will they learn shotguns are shit online anyways.

One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. From Afghans point of view, OUR soldiers are the terrorists, the invaders. I'm sure they feel proud of the resistance that is defending their country.
